I'll be adding to this:

1.  Please stay on topic in the Missing Persons threads
2.  No arguing with the moderators or administrators.
3.  Please no crude cuss words ( the "F" word comes to mind but there are a few others).
4.  No links to porn sites even if it pertains to a case.
5.  No posting personal information that you might regret.  Your safety is our priority.

Edit- add missing quote bracket.  MuffyBee

If someone has an opinion that you don't agree with instead of continuing to argue..roll and scroll. Just scroll past those posts instead of continuing the argument over and over again.

So.  I guess we aren't going to start a thread that has all the words we can't say?

Off the top of my head I can only think of 2 words that would really not be tolerated although I'm sure there are more.  The "F" word and the "C" word.  There is another word that is offensive that is already in the word censor and maybe I should just do a censor for the F and C words?

Klaas,May I make a suggestion? For folks with older computers, all of the pics and music videos, and graphics not related to the case cause a lot of slow down and freeze ups. Then they are quoted 20 times at least. Musings and JSM's banning thread would be a more appropriate place for them.

Some of my thoughts I'd like to share:

8.  No posting personal information that you might regret.  Your safety is our priority.

Perhaps add no posting of other posters' personal information to #8.

*No messages that harass, insult, belittle, or threaten another member. When posting, use the Golden Rule: treat others as you would like to be treated.

* No spam: Do not use the forum to promote your product, service or website.

*No warez, cracks or illegal downloading of software and similar topics.

Hope these suggestions are helpful.

I see we have new rules - that I have been breaking.  Myself being warned within cages that no one visits.  I hear the message or have read the RED loud and clear.

I will " restrict"  my posts. Its all good, understandable.   What it is in 2010 it is ...
I will keep it simple, If and when I post ~ maybe it's better that I just lurk. I await Casey's trial ..then more than likely I will be gone afterward. Since Caylee was the reason why I joined here. Thank you Klaas for the fair warning. I have it in my back pocket. I will reference it from here on out.  No more vids/or long posts  - I will refrain.
Keep it simple, just text copied from newspapers - with links.

No posts from me, none in any cages other than Jsm's. In the last two weeks, all my posts were in JSM's Cage and I posted to Sandra Cantu - but I was told " no more"  a cage of a child that no one visits.
I have to say that Sandra Cantu means more to me than being a Monkey .. if I was so wrong by posting within Sandra's cage,  I guess it is what it is.

I won't say anymore - I may be hit with the big red button.

Deenie - it's very difficult to know what to do/say when people over react like I feel you are doing.  It is not all about you and others would like to be able to read threads and can't because of large files/videos.

You do what you need to do but don't play the martyr, it doesn't become you or anyone else.

Comments:

1.  Just because a thread doesn't have recent posts doesn't mean it isn't "visited".  Take a look at the number of "views" a thread has.  I may go back in and "view" a thread, reading over posts, looking at pics and sometimes going there to get links that were previously posted to check on any news or developments.  Sometimes they have info Google News doesn't.  I check for updates and articles often for the MP threads. (as I know many others also do)  I don't post unless there is an update.  If I posted every time I thought about a particular MP or looked for info, there would be a lot of posts with nothing but  an angelic monkey  .  Just because there aren't recent posts in an MP thread doesn't mean they aren't "visited".  They can be seen by all at any time, and importantly, they are also a sort of archive.  Instead of just the link I post the entire article if I can, because there's been too many times the article goes "poof" or else you have to pay $4.95 or more to see it.  (See $4)

2.  Another observation:  Many here utilize the "NEW" post feature, that will indicate when there's been a new post in a thread.  I try to make an effort to check all of those not only as a poster but as a moderator.  When there's been a lot of graphics/etc. and things that may make a page load slower posted in a thread, it can make it difficult for those that have slower computers.  As for myself, I wouldn't want to do anything to cause another poster problems, especially if they are trying to look for information and read in an MP thread.

3.  It's not a contest about who cares more/most about any case.  There are many here that are good and caring people and they may not post as much, they may not have computer skills, but it doesn't mean they don't care.  We don't have ANY MP orphan threads that I'm aware of.  Sometimes I go back to the oldest cases and research, trying to find any news and if I can, I'll post it.  The cases may be older, they may be on back pages but they are NEVER FORGOTTEN.  I know there are many others that try to update and bring articles or research.  Sometimes there is just absolutely nothing.  But the MP cases are NEVER FORGOTTEN.

4.  I think I may be the queen of "text copied from newspapers", but am fighting over the crown with Nut at times.  I am NOT and NEVER will be ashamed of copying text from newspapers.  When I copy text, I include links and I'm providing information and I'm providing updates.   And sometimes just finding the article to copy the text from newspapers takes some doing.  They aren't always just out there on Google.  It takes time and it takes effort to find an copy and this stuff.  Some posters appreciate the information and the effort.  And posters read the information, which can help them form an opinion and they can post it.  They may not see the information otherwise, it if wasn't for good old copy and paste and of course, the links. Also, when the "text from newspapers" is copied along with the link, it serves as an archive.  In the past, when I've gone to where there's only a link, the article has gone poof, or I would have to pay $2.95 or more to view the article.  "Text copied from newspapers" may not be as bad as some infer.  I don't copy and paste with any less love than another might when they post a video.     When I go to an MP thread, I'm really hoping there is more information.  If I want to be entertained, I'll go to music threads, Musings, Games, Bannings or elsewhere.  I do appreciate some of the really great artwork Klaasend, CBB , Brandi and others create for the MP threads, which we often use for the opening pages.  But even too much of that getting quoted can slow the loading of pages.  JMHO

Adding that this is my own opinion as a poster at Scared Monkeys.

I like this from the ADMIN of the Missing Kyron Horman facebook:

http://www.facebook.com/#!/notes/missing-kyron-horman/mkh-statistics-and-a-message-from-admin-lori/129447280426038

ATTENTION MKH MEMBERS, I would like to share a little bit of wisdom with you. I've learned this information for myself the "hard way." Please allow yourselves the opportunity to "Learn From My Fail"

As you probably know, people reach emotional maturity at different rates and some people never really get there. When you read a post that is insulting or rude to you or another member, try to remember that what you're seeing is someone throwing out evidence of their own emotional immaturity. (That's right, it's there for everyone to see...quite embarrassing, actually. You should be blushing.)

It's tough to do sometimes, but try to reassure yourself that if you don't take the bait (if you don't respond), you are displaying your own emotional maturity. You'll be happier for it and so will those around you. Please remember that you can't "win" these online arguments. You have two choices: You can respond with an equally childish response or you can "take the high road" and turn your focus to those members who are displaying their own emotional maturity by not engaging in online pettiness.

As I said, it's tough to do...sometimes REALLY, REALLY tough, but the more often you do it, the easier it gets.

I confess, honestly, that I am not always able to the right choice when someone upsets me. I make mistakes, like we all do, but I keep trying.

Remember, It's not a good idea to wrestle with a pig in the mud, the pig likes it and you'll both get dirty.

Consider this a public service announcement from admin Lori.

To the administrators of Scared Monkey,

My name is Mark Lawless and I am the pastor of Battlefield Baptist Church. Through doing an internet search, I found my name used on this forum. The information provided concerning me is beyond false, but is damaging. The forum says that I have been kicked out of the church I pastor, which I have not. Please see: www.sermonaudio.com/mbl for proof that I am still the pastor of Battlefield Baptist Church. It says that this dismissal was based upon false doctrine; which, again, is damaging. And even more damaging are false accusations that I have a criminal history in Arizona. I have never lived in Arizona. In fact, expect for a about three months of my life, I have lived in the same county I was "born and raised." And far from having a criminal history, I actually worked at our 9-1-1 Dispatch for about seven years. All of this can be proven by calling our 9-1-1 Dispatch at 270-343-6600. If there are any other questions of my credibility concerning this, you can also contact our sheriff's office at 270-343-2191.

I ask you to please check these things out and then please remove the posts which use my name. These posts have already done much damage - please help!

Mark B. Lawless (Battlefield Baptist Church)
