Natalee Holloway Case Discussion #851 11/16/10 - 11/20/10

Someone please refresh my memory about his shoes.  Didn't he say he took them off at the Mariott but I also thought I heard that they found one in his room when they searched the house.  Am I correct on this?  I'm not sure.

What I do know is the night that Beth, Dave and I think Steve Holloway were there at the Van der Sloots house Paulus had to call for Joran to come home and Beth said he showed up not much later and he was dirty.  If he had been down at one of those jetty's he could have gotten home quickly and if he was dirty he may have been looking for the shoe he lost the night before or possibly making sure his hiding place was well covered.

Joran said he left his shoes at the beach. One shoe was found in the mockery of a search on his apt, but later that fact got muddied and it dropped off the radar screen of LE. Joran lied several times about his shoe size, so you can bet he was worried that his shoe would be found in incriminating circumstances.

When Beth and Jug arrived at the Sloots, Paulus went to get Joran and came back to say he wasn't home. He called Joran and told Jug and Beth that Joran was at a Casino (help somebody....... which one was it?). Anyway, they all left to go to the casino to confront Joran. Once there, Joran wasn't to be found. Paulus called Joran again, and he said he came home. Back they went to the house and there was Joran and Deepak, not dressed for the casino but time had been bought with the running around.

WHAT WAS REALLY GOING ON? Who knows for sure? Jug has always regretted not insisting the trunk to Deepak's car be opened right then and there. He thinks Natalee may have been in it.

I think it was the Hyatt Casino that he was at when Paulus called him to go home.

We could kick ourselves for not taking a photo of the jaw bone. It was found at that edge of the water where waves could have brought it up on shore, near where a jetty of rocks go out to protect the beach area. The jetty has been damaged due to the waves from storm Tomas and the waves were still large when we arrived last week. The waves damaged many resort shores and also brought in LOTS of debris and shells. The waves eroded beach fronts everywhere so also uncovered debris. The waves were relentless! Very unusual for Aruba. By midweek the waves stopped churning up the sand and the water began to clear. Usually the water is very clear and you can see the ocean bottom when you go in for a swim. My friend found it on Friday… our last day of vacation.

I appreciate kkthy's comments on the FP but I wish the finder of this jawbone would come forward and be identified.

So he lied about leaving his shoes on the beach at the Marriott.  Then only one shoe turns up in the search of his apt. 

He could have very easily lost that other shoe in the jetty.

The storm could have very easily caused a hydrolic near the jetty to dislodge a rock allowing that mandible out into the ocean to be swept ashore!

I feel confident in saying that there is unanimous agreement on this thread that the shoe is significant. Even in an interview, Joran makes a point to draw attention to his shoes. He was demonstrably nervous about it. There was even speculation here  that Joran did leave his shoes at the crime scene and asked Deepak to get them and that Deepak kept one shoe with evidence on it in case Joran tried to point to them as the sole guilty party.

I think the Jetty theory would also fit the time frame – they had to get rid of her body fast and not be seen doing it.  Then return back to their homes - All between leaving Carlos and Charlies and logging on and off computers and the cell phone calls. 
Someone here with more knowledge about the time could figure this out but I bet it fits the time frame.

Page 44:  Alberto and Claudio went to the location, looked over the fence, and there it was.  A silver-gray Honda with big tailpipes and fancy features, just as the students had described.  They wrote down the license plate number and address.

Page 45:  At Noord it takes almost half an hour to get uniformed officers to accompany us to the van der Sloot home.

The silver Honda is not there anymore.

The officers sound their horns and sirens for about five minutes before a man answers the door.  He is Joran’s father, Paulus van der Sloot.  He has his cell phone in his hand.  The police ask to see Joran.  Paulus responds that he isn’t home and calls his son to find out where he is.  He tells the police that Joran says he is in a poker tournament at the back of the casino at the Wyndham Hotel.

Page 46:  Again we load up, adding Paulus to this madcap possee riding in convoy with the police to the Wyndham.  The police lead the pack.

We arrive at the Wyndham, and the car barely stops rolling before I jump out …

I run to to the back where Joran told his father he would be and return to the front.  There is no sign of him.

I turn around to see Paulus on his cell phone again.  He tells us that his son is back at their house now.

Page 47:  Everybody is running and running to the cars.  Few Words are spoken.  We arrive to see people standing in front of the house.  They are Deepak Kalpoe and Joran van der Sloot.

Page 48:  Joran and Deepak have supposedly returned from a night of gambling at the Wyndham.  It’s about three o’clock in the morning.  It’s a school night.  They aren’t dressed as if they have been to a casino.  They are in grubby T-shirts and shorts.  I make a mental note that I will ask to see the casino footage from the Wyndham later on.  Just to see if they were really there tonight or, rather, this morning.

Page 121:  And finally we learn from the Wyndham Hotel manager that Joran and Deepak do not appear on their security videos at the time the two claimed to be at the poker tournament there – the same time we were stand in the van der Sloots’ front yard in the wee hours of May, 30.

Someone asked earlier how a jaw bone could wash up on the beach when there were no shells on the beach. I can’t find the post.

From what I have heard there are no shells or coral on the Jetties.  If the storm caused a hydraulic (a swirl of the water) next to the jetty it would create a pressure - sort of like a blender.  That pressure can create a vacuum and if it was close enough it could pull things into it and spin or spit them out into the ocean.  Since the ocean is shallow there in that area with jetties on both sides the item would wash in with the tide.

I use to white water raft!
