I understand wanting Natalee's dental records, but if they got right on it, I would think the bone DNA would settle the identification pretty quickly. I can't help second guessing everything.......... I just do not trust them, and I think it's getting time the identification should be made!

I just took a quick look and found that even fossilized bone contains DNA and the DNA is retrievable.

Come to think of it, Zahra was identified through bone DNA.

From the marrow of the bone.

I'm puzzled about something. Can't they get DNA from bone regardless of the material available in the tooth root? We know there's bone, right? I mean no bone would mean there's no jaw?

What they really want is soft tissue.  They might be able to extract some soft tissue from the root canal.  DNA can be done I believe with just the bone but it would likely take longer.

Thanks, Klaas! Do you remember how long it took to ID Zahra from the bone they found?

Looks like at least 10 days.  Bone was found on Nov 3 and Emily flew to the US on the 13 or 14.  It was announced not long after that the bone was her.

I think when the lab has to amplify the DNA (PCR testing~makes exact copies from small amounts of DNA), this takes time with all the incubations and other procedural steps that you must follow to obtain a result. I do  high complexity immunology testing (for example)..Several of the panels I run have an initial incubation time of 2-3 hrs. followed by washes and more incubations, etc.

She is probably lying low, might have been a part of the "planting" party.  Wants to keep that speculation down.

Just one little tid-bit regards Zahra's DNA.  She was murdered in and around one of the biggest DNA/stem-cell/genetic testing areas in the world.  Duke.

I don't know if anyone has posted this article yet, and if they have I apologize.  But apparently they have at least determined that the jawbone was that of a young woman.
