Video says that there were two charges she was in court for today, one was from 1992 when her name was Lisa Foster and they had to stay that larceny charge to Dec 6 as they have to go find the witnesses from that charge.

Also two searches today, one at the house and one in Caldwell county

Elisa Baker indicted; prosthesis confirmed as Zahra's
Police: Prosthetic leg found in Caldwell County was Zahra's.

HICKORY --
The Catawba County Grand Jury indicted Elisa Baker Monday, the same day Hickory police confirmed that the prosthetic leg that was found in Caldwell County last week belonged to Elisa’s stepdaughter, Zahra.

Elisa Baker, 42, was indicted on one count of felony obstructing justice. The indictment stated that the offense happened on Oct. 9, the day Zahra was reported missing by her father, Adam Baker. According to the indictment, Elisa “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously did with deceit and intent to defraud a police investigation, obstruct justice by constructing and placing a false ransom letter and reporting an abduction of her stepdaughter, Zahra Baker.”

Elisa is currently jailed under a $92,200 bond. Of that, $65,000 is for the obstruction of justice charge. The remaining bond is for other charges Elisa faces unrelated to the disappearance of her stepdaughter.

Zahra’s disappearance was first believed to be a missing persons case. However, just three days into the investigation, on Oct. 12, Hickory police changed it to a homicide investigation, but declined to state what made them change their determination. Someone outside the family last saw Zahra, age 10, on Sept. 25 at a furniture store in Hickory. She was with Elisa.

Zahra, a cancer survivor, lost her lower left leg to the illness, as well as part of her hearing. She used a prosthetic leg and hearing aids as a result. The two hearing aids were found at the home when she was reported missing, but her prosthetic leg was not.

On Tuesday, Oct. 26, Hickory police found a prosthetic leg in the brush off Christie Road in Caldwell County. On Monday, police confirmed that the prosthetic was, in fact, Zahra’s.

“The medical records matched the serial numbers on this prosthesis,” said Tom Adkins, chief of the Hickory Police Department.

There was a transponder on the inside of the prosthesis found on Christie Road, and Hickory police had to use a scanner to determine the serial number, Adkins said.

Police then had to contact the facility in Australia that fitted Zahra’s prosthesis to determine if it was the same one that was found in Caldwell County.

Adkins explained why the process took some time, saying not only did the police department need to get assistance with scanning the transponder, but that the records couldn’t just be emailed.

“When you are getting medical records from another country, to positively confirm it, you need to have the records mailed to you and have them in-hand,” he said.

Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to call the Hickory Police Department, at 328-5551.

5:30 update video from wsoctv.

The work they are doing this week has nothing to do with information obtained from either EB or AB. They have not talked to EB since they took her on the field trip last week. They have not talked to AB since he was released from jail.

http://www.wsoctv.com/video/25597830/index.html

Shows them taking equipment in to remove pieces of wall in the house.

Wow. At the end they are bringing plywood in so wondering if it is outside walls, possibly ceiling or even floors they are ripping apart?  I am not sure they would bring in plywood unless for their own safety so really leaning on flooring and that crawlspace under the house IMO.

hmmmmm, wouldnt the dogs have hit on something in the house

Wow good thinking. I have been scratching my head over the questions you asked but never thought about the floating aspect. Why didn't they just bury it though so it could not be found? Do you think perhaps they wanted to have the leg found?

Investigators return to Baker house; seize evidence
By Sarah Newell williamson

Investigators returned to the Bakers’ Hickory home for the sixth day in a row to search for evidence. This time, they took large pieces of the interior of the house with them.

On Monday, investigators had the Hickory Fire Department aid their search, using tools that included a chainsaw, axe, wrenches and two types of Halligan bars. Other power tools were also used while SBI and Hickory police investigators searched the inside of Adam and Elisa Baker’s home on 21st Avenue, NW.

Periodically, an investigator would come out with a bag. Investigators and Hickory firefighters resumed their scouring of the house, focusing on Zahra’s room in the right rear of the house. Dull thudding noises came from the room, strong enough to rattle the windows. Noises from power tools then ensued. Another investigator entered the house with a lump hammer.

About 10 minutes later, the SBI and Hickory police investigators emerged, clutching a section of drywall from the room about 4 feet across, splotched pink on one side and gray on the other. They also brought out other evidence, concealed in brown paper bags larger than their torsos.

Zahra Clare Baker, 10, has been missing for nearly a month and Hickory police, in conjunction with several other agencies, have worked avidly to find her. She was first reported missing by her father, Adam Baker, on Oct. 9. On Oct. 12, that was changed to a homicide investigation. Someone outside of the family last saw Zahra on Sept. 25 at a furniture store in Hickory. Zahra was in the store with her stepmother, Elisa Baker. Elisa, 42, is currently in jail for writing a false ransom note, in which she demanded $1 million. Police charged Elisa with obstruction of justice. On Monday, Elisa was indicted on the same charge. She has also been arrested on several other charges unrelated to Zahra’s disappearance.

Several areas have been searched for Zahra or for evidence in connection with her disappearance, including a landfill in Caldwell County, several former rental properties or sites near where the Bakers use to live in Caldwell County and Adam Baker’s employer, Real Tree Services, in Morganton.

“We’re seizing every piece of evidence relating to the case,” said Tom Adkins, chief of the Hickory Police Department. “Hopefully we can piece together what occurred.”

Adkins said investigators were led back to the house for additional evidence based on new leads.

“Information that we gathered led us back to more evidence that may be present,” he said.

He said other areas of Caldwell County were also searched Monday, based on tips the police department received over the weekend.

Adkins said those tips are not from Elisa Baker or her attorney, Lisa Dubs.

“We haven’t spoken to her attorney since (last) Tuesday,” he said.

Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to call the Hickory Police Department at 328-5551.

The stuff they are bringing out of the house and what they are all doing in the house is scary, what in the world were they all doing to that child in there?

It is starting to sound like Zahra could have died in her bedroom.

Why would they take out kitchen cabinets which the other article stated?  On NG Jinkasaurus said more dogs have entered the house as well.

(BBM) Probably in her bed, as well.

Thus the throwing away of her mattress and getting a new one.

No clue about the cabinets.

This is just so sad to even think about.

That really bothers me, the kitchen cabinets, can't imagine really why those are of interest.

I just heard on either Jane or NG that they're taking apart the wall in Zahra's bedroom.

They could be removing the plumbing and pipes in the kitchen/bath to check if cleanup was performed? Maybe garbage disposal?

A lump hammer is just another name for a sledge hammer.
