My youngest has been home from school sick yesterday and today.  School just called to let me know they have scarlet fever going around

You can't get a break can you?Bless your heart,I hope he feels a little better, but it sounds like a visit to the MD might be in order.   an angelic monkey

If his fever does not break tomorrow I may take him in if my car starts.

I would probably want him on antibiotics, since scarlet fever is around, and that is the treatment for that. Just to be on the safe side.

And I am not at all in favor of using antibiotics willy-nilly.

You sure have your hands full, Northern.

Be sure to be taking good care of you.

Good morning trimmy  sunny Glad to hear you've got your Sidekick with you    Are you doing anything special today, or just having fun being together, which is great too!!

I've been thinking of JSM too!

Good morning to all monks, monkettes and our guests

It's so windy here today and overcast, but warm. The low for tomorrow (Thanksgiving Day) is 38.  I guess we won't be gathering around on the patio for coffee and dessert after the meal.  We were able to do that last year and it was nice to just walk away from the stack of plates and such, (which can be washed up later) and sit and visit with friends and relatives.  We don't seem to get together enough these days, with everyone so busy and with some living far away.  Of course, there are one or two that I  only have to deal with once a year...  Monkey Devil!

I saw that on the weather, how you ladies in Texas are going from warm to so cold so quickly    It rained last night and it is rather cool here today, just the way I like it. Tomorrow should be cold with winds. My dad is getting ready to leave early Friday morning.

Your Dad will be in my thoughts and prayers, NRCG.  I hope when he goes through security and flies, it will be smooth, without problems.  I understand the need for security, but I also understand the need for care and compassion for our children, elderly and those that have disabilities.  Somewhere, somehow can't there be good security without compromising the health and well being of travelers?  JMHO

My younger son had scarlet fever before he started school.  The pediatrician told me it's a form of strep and did administer a prescription for an antibiotic.  Both of my children seemed susceptible to strep infections and/or ear infections while in the lower grades at school.

Northern Rose, I hope your son recovers soon.

Thank-you so much  an angelic monkey  The one good thing is that Delta airlines is wonderful when chaperoning an elderly person in a wheelchair, for that we are very grateful. I'm not sure what will happen, we always fly out of John Wayne airport here in south county, and I don't think they have a body scan machine, so I'm guessing it will be one of those pat downs. I sure wish also that something not as intrusive could be done. I watched a video with a little autistic boy who was only four, and can't believe there were no brains being used, the little boy was awful upset, and couldn't blame him.

I just haven't heard much about scarlet fever in the last several years. And even when I was young and sick all the time, never got that, and none of my friends did either. Sure hope Northern your son doesn't have that  an angelic monkey Did not know that it was a form of strep throat.

Here is a link with some info:

http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/bacterial_viral/scarlet_fever.html

I remember one time we were planning a vacation down the shore and I came down with a strep throat.  I called the pediatrician and told him the boys didn't have symptoms, but I was afraid they'd develop them once we were down there.  Since I was already on an antibiotic, he told me to have throat cultures done at my doctor's office and if positive, he'd prescribe.  Both came back positive, even though they had no symptoms.  The pediatrician prescribed meds and told me that some people are carriers and depending on one's resistance, the strep bacteria can be dormant.

Thank-you, and I'm trying to remember way back when, all the shots the girls got and without digging that up in a fire safe box, I can't remember if there was a vaccine for scarlet fever. When I think back, and the doctor said the girls need this and that vaccine we just did what the doctor said. Now the decisions parents have to make about vaccines, we didn't know most of the things they know now and the hazards of maybe getting vaccines.

I don't know of a vaccine for scarlet fever or strep, but I am older and my sons are, as well.  I just remember MMR, Polio, Smallpox and the Hepatitis one that was recommended when they were in Middle or High School.  (of course, I am sure I am forgetting something.)

That seems right, and I'm sure there are more also, but that was a long time ago and can't remember.

It warmed up (only -28 today) so managed to get the car started and took youngest to the Dr.  They would have to do blood test to check if he had Scarlet Fever and because his fever broke last night and no rash or white furry stuff at the back of his tongue he doubts it.  Just looks like the garden variety flu.
