Good morning everyone.  Do you know that when my dad flew out here, and mind you in a wheelchair, they made him get out and patted him down and he was upset.
I believe it No Rose. It is so freaking ridiculous. Read a story today about a bladder cancer survivor that TSA was patting down and they busted his ostomy bag and the guy told them but they didn't listen and he ended up getting on the plane soaked in urine. TSA knew what they did and didn't even offer an apology.

I still get a snicker out of this one..My dad at 85 was flying back and forth from Ca. to Dallas to visit, (his dementia wasn't quite so severe at that time).  They wouldn't let us walk him to the gate, made him remove all metals - belt included - well he got everything back in his pockets etc., but didn't get the belt on..

Well he headed the wrong way to his gate, and no one would listen to us to turn him around he was gone about 5 minutes from sight and I was getting upset, then he appeared trudging along with his pants around his ankles!

I got one of the guards attention, and he went over and stopped dad, got his pants up and belt on and escorted him to the proper gate......

When he got to Ca., my sister was waiting at the bottom of the escalator, he was trying to manuever his carry-on and balance on the stairs.....lost his balance down he went taking about 15 people in front of him with him.....thankfully no one was hurt, but my sis said it was like watching a slow motion bowling ball knocking down the pins.....Again they hadn't allowed my sister to meet him at the gate!

Oh ya, he was so much FUN his last couple years...His next flight he tripped and fell in the aisle as they were disembarking, mowed a couple of people down, and knocked himself out..at this time we were making him sit in a wheelchair to get on and off the plane!

American Airlines finally put him on their "Can Not Fly List" without a chaprone!!!  My sister brought him out the last time....Bought him a One way only ticket.....I won't fly, so she knew he wouldn't be getting back on a plane!!

Unbelievable. What gets me is he has a hard time walking, and believe me he doesn't look like he would be carrying a bomb, but I guess one has to follow the rules to fly

Oh dear God  an angelic monkey Last year when my dad came he fell as well, so we were very upset. Coming out here we arranged for a wheelchair, and he got very good service. It is set up like that on Friday when he goes home.

Well dad was very stubborn, and with the dementia he was in denial and didn't think he should be treated like a lil ol man, so refused the wheelchair for several flights, when we finally convinced him he couldn't do it by himself any longer, and requested the wheelchair assistance, the airline was fantastic and kind escorting him on and off and directly to our care.
Dementia of all sorts is a terrible disease, he didn't have Alzhimers, his was classified as Frontal Lobe dementia, constant confusion, never really was forgetfully, just processing information was near impossible.  His personality change was dramatic, he'd never been mean or nasty.  He became very physically abusing towards me, and accusatory.

I hope anyone that are seeing changes in their friends and relatives seek professional help...don't try to deal with on your own, it is so damaging to both the patient and yourselves mentally and physically draining...

Yes, we love them, but as his doctor told me, he is no longer capable nor rationally competent -- you can't care for him, let go when it gets to the point that everyone is suffering and let the professionals take over!

an angelic monkey It is so awful getting old. I have seen very few people in their older years that don't have something physically or mentally wrong with them. I worked many years in home health care and nursing homes, it takes it's toll on a person. So sad, so depressing, I was always glad to see one of the poor souls that were happy, maybe not in present time, but were somewhere stuck in the past, but were happy.

I am sorry you had to suffer through this.

Sounds like you got good advice and took it.
