BabsKats . . . your poor dad . . . it used to be people requiring wheel chairs were looked after, and escorted by airline staff.

Good morning Monkeys!  Happy Sunday to all.
Well dad was very stubborn, and with the dementia he was in denial and didn't think he should be treated like a lil ol man, so refused the wheelchair for several flights, when we finally convinced him he couldn't do it by himself any longer, and requested the wheelchair assistance, the airline was fantastic and kind escorting him on and off and directly to our care.
Dementia of all sorts is a terrible disease, he didn't have Alzhimers, his was classified as Frontal Lobe dementia, constant confusion, never really was forgetfully, just processing information was near impossible.  His personality change was dramatic, he'd never been mean or nasty.  He became very physically abusing towards me, and accusatory.

I hope anyone that are seeing changes in their friends and relatives seek professional help...don't try to deal with on your own, it is so damaging to both the patient and yourselves mentally and physically draining...

Yes, we love them, but as his doctor told me, he is no longer capable nor rationally competent -- you can't care for him, let go when it gets to the point that everyone is suffering and let the professionals take over!

agreed!

Good morning everyone.  Do you know that when my dad flew out here, and mind you in a wheelchair, they made him get out and patted him down and he was upset.
I believe it No Rose. It is so freaking ridiculous. Read a story today about a bladder cancer survivor that TSA was patting down and they busted his ostomy bag and the guy told them but they didn't listen and he ended up getting on the plane soaked in urine. TSA knew what they did and didn't even offer an apology.
Unbelievable. What gets me is he has a hard time walking, and believe me he doesn't look like he would be carrying a bomb, but I guess one has to follow the rules to fly
It is so stupid to target the elderly and little kids. Target the real terrorists!!! Makes me so angry!!!

I still get a snicker out of this one..My dad at 85 was flying back and forth from Ca. to Dallas to visit, (his dementia wasn't quite so severe at that time).  They wouldn't let us walk him to the gate, made him remove all metals - belt included - well he got everything back in his pockets etc., but didn't get the belt on..

Well he headed the wrong way to his gate, and no one would listen to us to turn him around he was gone about 5 minutes from sight and I was getting upset, then he appeared trudging along with his pants around his ankles!

I got one of the guards attention, and he went over and stopped dad, got his pants up and belt on and escorted him to the proper gate......

When he got to Ca., my sister was waiting at the bottom of the escalator, he was trying to manuever his carry-on and balance on the stairs.....lost his balance down he went taking about 15 people in front of him with him.....thankfully no one was hurt, but my sis said it was like watching a slow motion bowling ball knocking down the pins.....Again they hadn't allowed my sister to meet him at the gate!
Oh dear God  an angelic monkey Last year when my dad came he fell as well, so we were very upset. Coming out here we arranged for a wheelchair, and he got very good service. It is set up like that on Friday when he goes home.
an angelic monkey That's good to know No Rose that he will have a wheelchair when he goes home.

We were very thankful for the wonderful attention my dad got while flying, Delta airlines.
No Rose, I love Delta. My Dad retired from Delta and I have a flight pass for life. Only thing is, I can't use it because American has taken over all flights out of DFW so the flights on Delta are full. My dad will love to hear that you are getting good service with Delta.

I wonder if I still have that book my mom gave me?
She never could bring herself to talk to us about the "s" thing...and she had 9!

Was thinking earlier of your shiner(and zit too?)...if they are not gone, I vote for cool glasses        or lots of make up and a princess band aid for the "blemish"! I bet no matter what, you will be the most beatimous bride ever and no one will care or remember anything else!

Someone mentioned tripping in your flip flops up thread(sorry, don't remember who) and it reminded me...
My Dad stepped on the train of my dress and had us cracking up thru the whole ceremony...this is one of my most treasured memories of my Dad and our wedding! Can't make those things up, but what a blessing to start in JOY!

JSM...I haven't been her that long,  but I wish for you the utmost happiness!
I do not know CC(Sounds like a great former monkey?).I do know without a doubt,if he don't treat you right, lotta monkeys gonna be awfully pizzed off and looking for him!     Monkey Devil!
I feel like I have known you for a long time, as with a lot of the monkeys. What an awesome online family I feel privileged to have stumbled into!

Well, JSM, CC and Josef ...

I can't begin to express my wishes for your happiness. But I so wish you a wonderful life together.

I have made a special wedding greeting for you three.

But it is a congratulations thingy and I cannot post it until you are married!

So when you get back of if you are online sometime in Florida, let me know so I can present it to you.

Have a great time, and enjoy the ceremony, the reception and each other!

JSM,
I am hoping you get to see this before you leave for FL.
I have to come (in a very short time) to recognize what a special person you are.
My prayer is that your trip, wedding and the rest of your lives are all that you and CC envision.

The kids all laugh at me because I tell them I feel sorry for the turkey - not only does he die to give us a yummy meal, everyone seems to have forgotten him!  I do not do xmas until December 1st. I have a birthday on the 30th of november so I wait until my day is over!

Good Morning all!

Had the funeral for Sister in Law yesterday - it was a wonderful celebration of her life and our sorrow. She had over 500 people in there! it was amazing how loved she was.

My step-daughter showed up - with her kids one of which has a broken leg - how the he!! does a 4 year old break a leg. I have raised a few kids and never had a broken bone. I would call it an accident if it was not for the fact the older one has had a broken leg, arm, burns over 40% of her body and all of them have been removed multiple times for abuse. It breaks my heart that these precious kids are subjected to this. CPS keeps taking them and then returning them to her. Between this and the cases we deal with here, I have no faith left in the system. I just pray that the kids make it to adulthood without being killed. Sad, Sad, Sad.

TBM,
I am glad the funeral was comforting.  It is so sad, though, that you had to feel the loss of your SIL in addition to feeling fear and worry for your step grandchildren...  I don't even know what to say.
I will add those children to my daily prayer.
Does your step daughter live closely enough to you that you can be watchful of the children?
Hugs.
