Hi Monkey friends!  Thanks for all the warm welcomes to us newbies.

I am rereading Dave's book and highlighting interesting stuff as I go along.  Hope you don't mind if I ask some questions.  And I hope you don't think they are stupid ones.

In the beginning of the book Dave describes an abandoned house where drug addicts had left drug paraphernalia and other yucky stuff as being "right next to a fine restaurant near the hotel area and a McDonald's."

If I recall there are 2 McDonald's on the island?  I was wondering if anyone might know if that is the one where Slootbag picked "them" up.

If so....maybe that drug house is where Slootbag Jr was dropped off by
the Kalpoes? and the bad stuff happened?

ps...I saw someone (mishy?) use the Slootbag name yesterday and loved it! Hope it's ok for me to use it too.

Marlee, I do believe it was Justinsmama who used that term, and I think it was in the Anna Nicole thread...I loved it too!! I doubt she'll mind if you "borrow" it  Laughing  Laughing  Laughing  And welcome to the cage!!

I just came in to take a break from shoveling snow.  Its kinda getting to a mix of sleet in it so its quite heavy and back breaking.

How is everyone doing?

I'm good...Ms Vada!  Thanks for asking!

And you?  Got to tell you though...you're much too lovely to have a name like Vada!  Wink

Actually, Vada was my Grandmother's name, and she was a very special lady.  I got the nickname in High School of Darth and it just stuck.

Geesh, isn't this weather wild????
I can hear the ice pelting the windows right now.
At least we haven't lost power...yet..although hubby just called and asked if I was okay cause all around me people are without power. Thank Goodness he is on his way home in a few minutes.

Guess I'd better get the candles out.

Hi Art,

This weather is nuts.  Last night it rained cats and dogs and I just went outside for a moment and it is Sunny and 57 degrees.

I'm assuming this is the one near the hotels:

I believe there is a small McD's in the Seaport Marketplace too.

Then there is this photo that we had from early in the case.  Not even sure if it's real: Rolling Eyes

San That kind of weather is truly nuts, as you say!

Bus accident:

The bus driver and his wife were among those killed. I saw one report that said their four children also died, but another report said four students. The coach is among those seriously injured.

NTSB will investigate.

There were several eyewitnesses, including some of the survivors (most on the bus were asleep).

There apparently was no attempt to slow or stop - unless there was a brake or some other mechanical failure - there were no skid marks. The bus entered the ramp at "highway speed." This is a long, straight, one-lane, one-way ramp. It inclines up from I-75 to the Northside Drive overpass.

Somehow the bus traveled across the lanes of Northside Drive without hitting any other vehicles. It nicked two when it fell on I-75.  45 minutes later, the traffic would have been much heavier.

Some said that it appeared that the bus was trying to turn onto Northside Drive, but it's not clear whether that was an attempt to slow down, or an intended turn. They were not scheduled to stop for breakfast until 8:00, but possibly needed gas?

The bus had been on I-75 since it left home ... "Fresh" driver started at 4:30 a.m. (accident at est. 5:30 a.m.).

One student said that the gas was leaking after the crash. Might be hard to tell how much gas was in the tank, but the previous driver might know.

AirTran is providing air travel for families and students.

Local Mennonites are ON it.

I'm not gonna tell you it is sunshining here and about 64 degrees.

No really, Art - I do hope you don't lose power.... I remember one year everyone around me lost power, but we never did....never did know why - everyone came to my house!
