There are a total of 11 search warrants, consisting of about 100 pages, in the case. In one, police said they received conflicting information from Elisa Baker and Adam Baker, Zahra’s father, at the beginning of the investigation. Elisa Baker said the family went to an Octoberfest celebration the night before Zahra was reported missing, but Adam Baker said he hadn’t seen his daughter since the Wednesday before that.

The warrants also say that key evidence was disposed of in dumpsters in the Hickory and Granite Falls areas, and that searchers went through the Bakers’ Hickory home in search of bags that were possible used to dispose of the girl’s body.

Court opens search warrants in Baker case

Catawba County Superior Court Judge Nathan Poovey on Tuesday allowed access to search warrants related to a murder investigation that started when 10-year-old Zahra Baker was reported missing on Oct. 9. The 11 warrants, totaling more than 100 pages reveal that Zahra's step-mother, Elisa Baker, responded deceptively during a police polygraph test, and that she detailed how the young Cancer survivor was dismembered inside a Hickory house.
Court files had previously been sealed, and on Monday prosecutors attempted to keep the confidentiality of the warrants and the case intact. Poovey ruled, however, that the district attorney's office for the 25th Prosecutorial District neither filed a motion to keep the warrants sealed nor was prepared to defend that motion in a timely manner.

Details from the warrants reveal police investigations surrounding Zahra's apparent murder, including information related to evidence of human remains seized from plumbing in the Bakers' Hickory home on 21st Avenue NW.

Warrants also detail investigators' suspicion that Zahra was possibly raped by two men prior to her disappearance.

Then what in the world did the police dig up in that hole in the woods? Tools that were used?

I just felt it, I just knew that poor little child had been sexually assaulted. That man that gave Elisa all that money, I was suspicious if perhaps there were pictures of her, bad pictures of her being sent to perhaps this man and others. Special place in Hell is all reserved for these two vicious monsters.

According to the documents, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office investigated a claim that Zahra Baker had been taken to a house in Burke County and raped by two men there in mid-October. According to the search warrants one of the men had a relationship with Elisa Baker.

That poor, sweet innocent little child.  What she endured during her short life is just so tragic.  I feel sick to my stomach, the death penalty is too good for whoever is responsible for this.

In a statement to police, a source relays information that two men may have raped Zahra. When asked if they killed her, the source said "they might have hit her in the head."

The documents do not explain that, if someone else killed the girl, why the Bakers would conceal her death.
