Second quarter no recovery, outlook is favorable

ORANGE CITY - The Central Bank of Aruba (CBA) has this week figures for the second quarter, and last month announced new estimates of the Aruban economy. The second quarter of this year showed no significant recovery, but the figures for September and forecasts for the end of this year and next year are positive.

Thus, the monthly report for September that the number of stay-over visitors rose by 6 percent due to relatively more Brazilians (103, 3 percent) and Americans (2.5 percent) who visited our island. There are fewer tourists came from the Netherlands (6.1 percent) and Venezuela (3.7 percent). Nevertheless, the number of the first nine months of this year is still higher (1.9 percent) than in the same period last year. The forecast for the third quarter and fourth quarter and early next year are favorable, judging by the Economic Forecast Monitor that keeps CBA. There is an increasing trend in stay-over tourists in the number of nights. It is projected that the number of stay-over visitors in 2010 to 2.2 percent improvement from last year (-1.7 percent) and next year 2.8 percent over this year. For the number of nights, the estimated 2.9 percent respectively this year and 2.7 percent for next year.

The inflation rate increased more slowly, the Bank estimates. In the third quarter, we still talk about deflation (-0.2 percent) but in the fourth quarter, a 0.4 percent inflation rate expected over the same period last year. Measured over one year was there last year and a deflation of 2.1 percent this year expected an inflation rate of 2.4 percent. The latter estimate is revised downwards this month by the CBA. In September, was there still talk about deflation (-0.4 percent) compared to September last year. Consumer prices plummeted by 1.1 percent that month also, incidentally excluding that of water, electricity and gasoline.

The inflation differential with major trading partner the United States was 1.0 percent in September compared with -1.9 percentage points in September 2009. The estimates show that this year the inflation differential is estimated at 0.8 percent the year before when it was -1.8 percentage points. The predictions for the inflation differential for the last quarter of this year and the first two quarters of 2011 were also revised downwards.

Concerns over deficit
The determination of the figures for the second quarter of this year voted the Central Bank is not favorable. This concludes the Bank that there is still no clear signs of an economic recovery can be seen. Entrepreneurs in the second quarter include a lot less optimistic than in the first quarter of 2010. They have been less pessimistic about the economy than in the second quarter last year, according to the Bank. In the second quarter of this year has also decreased the number of tourists staying in one, by 2 percent fewer tourists from Latin America, especially Venezuela. The American market is growing for the fourth consecutive quarter (June there was even a decrease). And despite the decreasing number of tourists grew by 1.8 percent or nights and revenue from tourism by 5 percent. The number of cruise tourists increased in the second quarter of this year with 5, 5 percent.

Government finances, the Bank remains bleak, however. The national debt increased during the second quarter increased by 1.9 percentage points to 53 percent of GDP compared with the previous quarter. This is a development which CBA "is not sustainable in the long term." In June, the debt completed 2.33 billion guilders. The government also appears to have three bonds issued for the domestic market, an issue of 23.5 million florin to finance the deficit MWV-2009 and two bond issues of 180 million florins together so that the Government's financing requirements for this year cover . Commercial banks have jumped at least enthusiastically. The Central Bank which is called the "remarkable" that the Aruban banks a large amount of bonds purchased. This is according to the Bank a clear signal that there are too few investment opportunities (at high interest rates), both locally and internationally and demand for credit remains low.

Kermit's thanksgiving recipe

I would rather partake of eldest son's French Canadian MIL's recipe of frog legs sauteed in wine sauce with a side dish of wild rice.

Happy Thanksgiving Kermit

Janet

You know how I feel bout that.
Hope you and veggie have a wonderful day and be safe.

Happy Thankgiving monkeys!

Justice will happen for Natalee.  These Arooban freaks are testing us.

Their arrogance will be their downfall.

Good always prevails over bad.  Common sense and history say so.

Peace

ORANGE CITY - The Central Bank of Aruba (CBA) has this week figures for the second quarter, and last month announced new estimates of the Aruban economy. The second quarter of this year showed no significant recovery, but the figures for September and forecasts for the end of this year and next year are positive.

Thus, the monthly report for September that the number of stay-over visitors rose by 6 percent
There was a lull in tourist for a few reasons. One being the economy, also terrorism and more companies have installed technology to all foreign communication face to face and many people had babies in the past few years keeping them at home. Further, pleasure travel now goes to destinations that are geared for a package rather then just a hotel, booze and beach that Aruba offers. Drinking has become unfashionable among those who are seasoned. And casino competition is in a flooded market. All that said, Walt was way ahead of his time.

Seems that old Aruban misers are just sitting back and watching their little island go to shiiit. They don't care, they have mansions in hidden places where they can escape. The Caribbean dries up and then regrows, natures way and perfectly normal. Just look at Haiti. They had tourism back in the day. You can usually count the tourism industry in James Bond films. Their locations are usually the hotspots.

As for the Natalee boycott... and name calling on this forum... it's immature.
