I'm not sure who to ask this question.  I have been playing around in my profile and trying change some settings.  I was successful in adding a picture so I'm happy about that.  I went to one area that talked about "notify" and "Messages".  I can't figure out how to use the notify button and can't find it to click on it.  I also can't find how to do messages.  Am I not seeing something, or is that a feature that I just don't have permissions to do?  I had today off so spent more time trying to figure all of this out.

kkthy,

PMs or Private Messages are disabled by the Administration.  Early on, PMs were found to be troublesome, therefore, they are not used.  Editing your posts is also disabled for the same reason.

There is a button at the bottom of each post that says Report to Moderator.  If you have a problem or question about a particular post, this can be used.  Admins & Moderators will get notification and you will get a reply.  Usually, that will be Klaasend.

I'm sorry you spent so much time trying to figure out the notify and message functions.

If I've omitted anything, I am sure another Mod or Klaasend will correct me.

2NJSons_Mom,
Thank you for the response.  I thought that I was just not looking in the right place.  I will stop looking for those features.    I had forgotten to ask about the signatures.  Is there a signature field that I am not seeing?  That is one last thing that I wondered about.  Thanks again for your help.

Signature field can be found by going to Modify Profile - Profile layout and (drawing blank & I just checked it).  That's where you can enter a quote or image and it will show as in my post at the bottom.

kkthy - yeah some features have been disabled.  For instance, back in 2005 we learned that the PM feature could cause more trouble than it was worth and we disabled it way back then.  I would say in general that if you can't seem to figure out why you can't get something to work it's likely been disabled.

2NJSons_Mom & klaasend,
Thank you for your help.  I finally found the signature field.  It was in plain sight!  I think I found everything that I was looking for today with your help.  I can only imagine that the system may be overloaded with PM's and auto notifications in place.  I understand why some features were disabled.  Have a good evening everyone.

Van der Sloot should be free pending trial
Local News
Saturday, 15 January 2011

Joran van der Sloot's Peruvian lawyer says authorities there should formally interrogate his client...or set him free.
The Dutchman has been imprisoned In Peru's Castro Castro prison for nine months on charges he killed 21 year old student Stephanie Flores.  Her body was found in van der Sloot's Lima hotel room. Although he later said he confessed under duress and false promises to be returned to his country, he told Peruvian authorities he killed Flores when she found material relating to Natalee Holloway on his laptop computer.

Holloway disappeared on a 2005 trip to Aruba with classmates from Mountain Brook High School.  She was last seen leaving a nightclub with van der Sloot.  He was questioned several times by Aruban authorities but never charged in her disappearance.  Flores body was found in van der Sloot's hotel room five years to the day of Natalee's disappearance.
Van der Shoot has since appealed to have his confession thrown out claiming police irregularities, coercion and the lack of a qualified Dutch language translator.

Just a couple reminders, since most of the recent articles have stretched the length of Joran's incarceration in Castro, Castro...and the one I just posted incorrectly stated that Stephany's body was found in Joran's hotel room "five years to the day of Natalee's disappearance".

Joran has been in Castro Castro for seven months.

Although Joran confessed to murdering Stephany on May 30th, the fifth anniversary of Natalee's disappearance; her body was not found until June 2nd.

Joran van der Sloot Defiantly Won't Talk to Peru Judge
Accused Killer Now Says He Was Tricked into Falsely Confessing to Murder

121 comments By JOHN QUINONES and MARK MOONEY
June 21, 2010

Murder suspect Joran van der Sloot refused to speak to a Peruvian judge today who travled to the Lima prison to grill the Dutch playboy about the murder of Stephany Flores.

Joran van der Sloot is now claiming that he was tricked into a signing a confession that he killed Peruvian woman Stephany Flores and says that he will "explain later" what really happened.
(ABC News)

Van der Sloot's refusal to cooperate came after he told a Dutch newspaper that he was tricked into signing a confession that he killed Flores.

Out of concern for van der Sloot's safety, Superior Court Judge Carlos Morales went to the prison to take a statement from the 22-year-old murder suspect rather than bringing van der Sloot to court.

But when Morales appeared, van der Sloot defiantly refused to cooperate. Before he makes any statement, he wants his confession thrown out of court.

Van der Sloot's lawyer Maximo Altez, told the Associated Press the confession isn't valid because the defense lawyer present when Van der Sloot made it was state-appointed.

Van der Sloot is accused of murdering Flores, 21, on May 30 and is the prime suspect in the disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba five years ago.

Van der Sloot is arguing that he didn't realize he was signing a murder confession, which was written in Spanish. Van der Sloot speaks some Spanish.

"During the interrogations I was very frightened and confused, and I wanted to leave," van der Sloot told the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf in the notorious Castro Castro jail in Lima, Peru.

"'If you sign these papers you will be extradited to the Netherlands,' they were telling me all the time. In my blind panic I then signed everything, but I did not even know what was written down," he told the newspaper.

When asked about the murder of Flores, van der Sloot replied, "I have been framed. What happened exactly, I will explain later."

He also complained to the newspaper that he has to share his prison cellblock with a Colombian murderer, a corrupt Peruvian general and rats that creep into his cell through the toilet at night.

In the alleged confession, van der Sloot is quoted as saying he met Flores at a Lima casino and they were playing poker in his room when an email popped up on his computer linking him to the Holloway case.

He claims Flores became upset and struck him. Enraged, van der Sloot allegedly smashed her in the nose with his elbow. Blood gushed out and she nearly fainted from the blow, the confession states. He then grabbed her by the throat and banged her head against the wall, the confession says. He finally used his shirt to smother her, according to the reputed confession.

As ABC News reported at the time of his arrest, van der Sloot appeared confused before signing some police documents. He even asked his interrogatiors, "This only says I understand what my rights are, correct?"

THE STEPHANY FLORES CASE

I Will Tell You Later

De Telegraaf Interview - June 20, 2010

In the interview Joran Van der Sloot claims that he was scared and confused during his interrogation and that he wanted to leave. "If you sign these papers you will be extradited to the Netherlands..." Van der Sloot said he was told by Peruvian authorities. "In my blind panic I signed everything, but I didn't know what it all said."

"I was tricked into it," said Van der Sloot about the killing of Stephany Flores.

"How exactly all this happened, I will tell you later."

Considering that there's a video record of the coming and goings in the room the night Stephany was murdered, I'd almost like to hear the verbal gymnastics Joran would put to this one. He's wrapped himself up tightly with Stephany's murder. I'm just waiting for Peru to put a bow on him and hang him from a high tree.
