Toledo honors missing Morenci brothers
By Sharia Davis
December 19, 2011

TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - Morenci, Mich., isn't the only city wishing for the safe return of Andrew, Alexander, and Tanner Skelton.

This is the second time The Old Amtrak Village in Toledo held a special memorial for the young Morenci brothers. But this year's event was a little different.

All participants had one specific prayer and it involved changing the heart of the boys father.

"We need to do what we can do and we can pray," said Bruce Watrol, a Toledo area pastor. "We can make a difference with these prayers in the event that we can change the heart of the father or help somebody do what's right."
 ::snipping2::
Among those who attended the prayer vigil was family members of the young missing brothers.

The Old Amtrak Village put up a display to remember the boys. The brothers were reported missing the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 25, 2010.

Always as Suspect
After the boys' disappearance, police identified Skelton as a suspect and determined that he got rid of the boys on the morning after Thanksgiving in 2010.

"We know he left his home 4:29 a.m. the morning after Thanksgiving and returned at 6:46," Weeks says. "It's during that time that we believe that he disposed of them in some fashion."

Skelton has provided various accounts of what he did with the boys.

cw618, maybe these two sources give you answers to where the van was seen?

The search late Monday focused in northwest Ohio and parts of Michigan, in an area from Morenci west to Pioneer, Ohio, south to Holiday City and east to West Unity. Police say they developed evidence putting the Skelton family's blue 2000 Dodge Caravan in the area Friday morning, between 4 and 7 a.m.

Investigators say they have word that Skelton's van was seen exiting the Ohio Turnpike in Williams County around the time the boys went missing.  Crews focused in on the area around the turnpike exit on Thursday, including both land and water searches.  Sonar imaging was used underwater to look for any sign of the boys; however, nothing out of the ordinary has been found as of yet.

This article from 2010 gives information about a search near Fayette, OH

Searchers comb Ohio road for 3 missing Michigan boys
5:35 PM, November 29, 2010

Law enforcement and fire officials will resume searching on Tuesday for three missing Morenci, Mich., brothers.

Members of the Cambridge Fire Department, from Michigan, walked down U.S.-20 near Fayette, Ohio. Cambridge Fire Chief Scott Damon said the department, which has two ATVs in use, was called in to help two days ago.

He said the boys’ father, John Skelton, traveled this area.

“He was a truck driver,” Damon said, adding they understand “he traveled these roads a lot.”

John Skelton, the Michigan father whose 3 boys went missing: Whatever happened to ...?
July 30, 2012

"Whatever happened to . . .?" is a weekly series updating some of the most newsworthy and interesting local stories covered in The Plain Dealer. Have a suggestion on a story we should update? Send it to John C. Kuehner, or call 216-999-5325.

Today, we answer the question:

Whatever happened to John Skelton, the Michigan father whose three young boys went missing in November 2010?

Skelton remains behind bars in a Michigan prison after pleading no contest to three counts of unlawful imprisonment in September 2011.

His three sons, Andrew, Alexander and Tanner, however, remain missing. Police in Morenci, Mich., long ago gave up hope that the three boys, who were 9, 7 and 5 years old, would be found alive.

The disappearance of the boys on Nov. 25, 2010, triggered a massive search for them in communities skirting the Ohio-Michigan border. Skelton, who was separated from his wife, was supposed to return the boys to her that day. He instead told his wife that a woman would be dropping off the boys.
 ::snipping2::
Prosecutors in Lenawee County, Mich., originally charged Skelton with three counts of kidnapping, which carry a potential sentence of life in prison. He could still face murder charges should evidence be found linking him to the boys' deaths.

Morenci Police Chief Larry Joe Weeks says his department continues to work on the case on an almost daily basis.

"But there's been no significant break in the case, unfortunately," he said.

Based on cellular phone traffic, Weeks believes that the boys" bodies are somewhere within 80 miles of Morenci, which makes the search difficult.

Can't they prosecute him for murder already?  He doesn't ever need to see the light of day.

Still No Sign Of Missing Morenci Boys
August 20, 2012

 ::snipping2::
Still missing are 9-year-old Andrew, 7-year-old Alexander and 5-year-old Tanner Skelton. They went missing after a Thanksgiving visit with their father nearly two years ago, and Morenci County Police Chief Larry Weeks says they have not given up looking for the boys, although they’re not actively searching.

“There’s been no organized ground searches on our behalf since, it’s been probably two years, you know, since the incident started,” Weeks told WWJ’s Mike Campbell. “But as far as – you know – have people forgotten about ‘em, absolutely not. The people in our community are very aware of the case and it’s present in their minds, I’m sure, on a daily basis.”

Weeks says they follow leads as they come in, but so far, nothing has turned up.

Their dad, 39-year-old John Skelton, remains in jail. He’s the only suspect in the case. He says he gave the boys to a group, which he refuses to identify.

im sorry if you think im to blunt, but im talking about, 3 persons presumed deceased
the weights and heights of,Tanner 40#, 3'6',Alexander 45#,3'9",Andrew 57#,4'1"
that had to be moved to the same location,or maybe 2 locations,or 3 locations.so with
those figures and JS time frame the LE gave,4 a.m. to 7 a.m,here are some places ive
looked, keep in mind thats 3 hrs. LE said JS van was spotted near Holiday City, OH, ive
lost the link to that, but they did not give a time,so this trip i went the ,Gmap RT to HC,Oh.
from Morenci, MI  which had more St Rt and Co.Rds, not the much faster Oh TP Rt.
i looked around kunkle Oh,1st.

i did a 5mile grid, north of kunkle and east of kunkle,i only did a search to the Oh TP
south and west of kunkle, which was only like a mile, maybe a mile and 1/2.
i saw a couple of areas where maybe 1 body could be placed, and if you were seen
after the fact, you could be considered lost and using a tree for urinating, then i saw
this place, see the map, in the fall im going back and ask the land owners if they will
search it or if i can search.

i was thinking since it was a go visit fam type of hoilday wknd, maybe the 2 fams at the
ends of the road werent home, too notice anything, i parked, and got out and walked from
wooded end to wooded end on the road, i looked through my nocs, into the woods,
didnt see anything, but it is overgrown in the summer,,i was on the road parked and out
of my van, i want to say close to 45min.,there was no traffic,i didnt hear any dogs barking
and i couldnt hear noise from the houses, cars farm equp. ect. it didnt seem that anyone
noticed i was on buckeye,or if they did, they didnt care. buckeye is about 3/4 of a mi long

the spot isnt big enough to hunt on,and i doubt the land owner/s go in the wood very
often, and if the boys were in their camo clothing, even in the fall when there is less brush
i dont think they could be seen from the road, maybe from overhead,a copter, plane
might spot something,
ill post the other areas in a few days,as it takes me some time to get my notes together,so
others can read and understand what im saying

yes it took me a few to fig i was in MI.i was using notes  i had made, and
and a county map not a gps,i will not make that mistake again.LOL

Chief Weeks said the investigation is trying to determine the location of the 1990 Dodge Caravan from about
4 a.m. to 7 a.m. Friday when it may have been in the area of Kunkle, Holiday City, and West Unity in Williams
County in Ohio. It has a license plate of 9JOH93.

Thank you for posting your notes and thoughts CW.  The posters of the missing boys in your previous post with the boys photos are just heartbreaking when you look at them and realize they were probably murdered and disposed of.  So evil.

I see you're giving a lot of common sense to your search.  It sounds like there's a lot of area to cover.  The boys could be anywhere.     I hope they can be somehow be found.
