PORTLAND -- Cold case detectives are trying to crack a case that's nearly 12 years old. In January 1999, police found the body of a woman who had been killed and stuffed into a bag in a vacant home in Southeast Portland .

The woman was identified as 24-year-old Veronica James, a mother of three.

“Can you imagine if that was your loved one and that is how their life ended and the lack of respect that someone gave Veronica? So what I'm trying to do and what we're trying to do in the cold case unit is get some justice for Veronica and her family," said Detective Mary Wheat, with Portland Police

She had children who were 2, 5, and 9 at the time.  How awful not to know what happened to your Mommy!
