Thanks everybody for all of the great suggestions and references!

I've hot sauced, Vick'ed, Vinager'ed, ant sprayed, and aluminum wrapped! Then I hung suet in a tree that is in the backyard but away from the deck.

AND........... so far today........... I haven't heard a single peck!!

Thanks, Klaas! The hot sauce is a great idea and the info at the link is helpful too. It says it's very important to not let them settle into where they've been pecking so I really need to do something quickly!!

I've always had woodpeckers OUT in the yard, but this is the first time they've been destructive to the house or deck!! I'll arm myself with the hot sauce in the morning and give the rails a good coating!!

I'm thinking aluminum foil on the railings might help as well.

The foil sounds like it might work, but I would put it with the shiny side down, dull side up.  If birds can see their reflection, they will be even more attracted and peck at it thinking it's another peckerwood woodpecker interloping in their territory and peck at it even more.  For about a month every spring, I live through male cardinals pecking at my house windows and with bird poop down the doors of my vehicles parked outside because the male cardinals keep going after the side mirrors.

Yes, they love admiring themselves.  If you fold your side view mirrors in when you are not using the car, that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, Bearly.

Missing Monkey Now Tweeting

http://loganville.patch.com/articles/missing-monkey-now-tweeting

They say if you sit 100 monkeys down at 100 typewriters, one of them will eventually write Shakespeare. Apparently, if you give one rhesus monkey a smartphone, she will start tweeting.

Someone has started a Twitter account pretending to be the rhesus monkey that went missing 10 days ago from the Yerkes National Primate Research Center in Lawrenceville.

Could my Monkey friends please vote for my company in Cityvoter? We are a brand new company and this would really help us. I need about 25 votes to push us to number one at the moment. You can even vote through your Facebook!

We give special discounts to rescued dogs b/c we want them to start out their new life on the right foot and this would help to succeed to keep up the good work. Our trainer has helped deaf dogs and others with disabilities, everyone deserves a good life! We also do a lot of charity work for local rescues.

This would mean so much to me!

Thank you guys you're the best!

This doe was outside of my window to greet me as I staggered into the kitchen to make coffee. Thought I'd let her say "Good Morning" to the Monkeys, too!!

We have created a special thread in the Monkey Lounge for IBE and Happy.  Eventually we will be moving all the posts over to that thread.  Just letting you all know.

Can someone please tell me why I'm no longer able to log out?  Up until yesterday I had to log in with screen name, password but now when I arrive at this site, I'm already logged in and no matter how many times I hit the logout button, I'm still logged in!

Perhaps I should have read the Terms and Conditions all the way through?  Once a monkey, always a monkey?  No escape from the cage!?!!!?

Aurelia7,
You got it. Once a Monkey always a Monkey!

When I delete my cookies (sounds gross) I have to re-log in here. So that may help you log out.

I do think it's a cookie issue but I have the same problem.  That said you won't appear to be logged in if you aren't active and it won't matter to anyone but you.  Besides deleting cookies I don't know what to tell you.
