Police find woman's body near I-95
By Frank Gerace

A Gold Alert is still out for a Wilmington woman police say was kidnapped Monday morning, but now there's a disturbing twist to the story.

Wilmington police found a woman's body in a DELDOT lot off Rockwood Road near I-95 Monday night, but they don't know at this point if the remains are those of Marsha Lee, who was abducted when she left her home on Whittier Road in Brandywine Hills around 9:30 Monday morning, just as her husband was leaving for an appointment.

The witness told officers that while he was walking in the area he heard the screeching of tires and the saw a red Hummer SUV with tinted windows at the intersection.

The witness said he saw a man in his 30s putting something into the SUV from the driver’s side rear door, and then speed off west on East Matson Run Parkway.

Officers found a second witness who confirmed the first witness account, Reutter said.

About 10 a.m., a man living in the 4400 block of Whittier Road called police to report his wife missing.

He told officers that his wife went out to walk the family dog about 9 a.m. when he left for an appointment.

When he returned, his wife was gone and the dog was running loose, Reutter said.

Me: perhaps an accident and the driver panicked? I agree with Klaas the body just found is probably her. So sad for the family an angelic monkey

He ran into her and killed her.  Maybe he was drunk, on drugs but he decided to get rid of her body instead of face what happened.  I think it is the coverup of a horrible accident.  Very sad.

Man charged in kidnapping, death of Delaware woman

WILMINGTON, Del. - December 20, 2011 (WPVI) -- Police have arrested a man for his alleged role in the death of a Wilmington woman reported missing Monday while walking her dog.

24-year-old Dwight L Smith, of the 200 block of W. 36th Street, is charged with two counts of Murder 1st Degree and one count of Kidnapping 1st Degree.

Police on the scene found shoes and a hat on the roadway where the woman was last seen. The husband of the missing woman positively identified the clothing as belonging to his wife.

Several hours later, a patrol officer spotted a red Hummer with tinted windows driving in the same neighborhood. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver, later identified as Smith, was brought in for questioning and the car was impounded.

Search crews combed a Deldot yard off of Rockwood Road and located the body of a female in a lot near I-95. The body has tentatively been identified as Marsha Lee. A cause of death and positive identification is pending an autopsy.

After conducting a series of interviews and search warrants on Smith's residence and vehicle, police say they gathered enough information and evidence to press charges against Smith.

He had to have been on drugs or something to do this in front of so many people.  I would think.

Hi Monkeys. This story just keeps getting worse. I just had my local new on here which is ABC local news from the Philadelphia viewing area. Not far from Delaware area.

Apparently, this guy "snapped" so he decided to go kill someone. He "hit" her with his vehicle on purpose. When he picked her up outta the street and shoved her into back seat of his vehicle she was still alive. She begged him to take her to a hospital, instead he took her to a vacant lot and "finished her off" by banging her head against a rail.

 His father who spoke to reporters said that his son is an injured war vet, with brain damage from war in Afghanistan.

I'm sure there will be more on this story soon.

I am so sad for this woman's family, how awful. All she wanted to do was walk her dog like any other day.

More information regarding Elaine's post:

Army veteran charged in kidnapping, death of Del. woman
Updated at 04:55 PM today

WILMINGTON, Del. - December 20, 2011 (WPVI) -- Police have arrested a decorated war veteran for his alleged role in the death of a woman reported missing Monday while walking her dog.
 ::snipping2::
His family says Smith is a decorated Army Staff Sergeant who was recently injured in Afghanistan and received a Purple Heart
 ::snipping2::
According to court records, Smith allegedly told police something clicked off in his head and he wanted to kill someone, and that Lee was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Court records also reveal that Lee appears to have survived the initial blow by the SUV.

She was then placed in the vehicle and pleaded for her life, saying she wanted to go to the hospital. Smith told her he would take her to the hospital at one point but then decided against it and allegedly smashed her head against a rail.

Police say he then took off her clothes and dumped her body to make it look like another type of crime.

Smith's father told Action News off camera his son said he didn't remember hitting anything, that he sort of blacked out. His son had only been in the area for a couple of days.
 ::snipping2::
Smith was arraigned and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Facility where he is being held without bail.
