At 7:56 is where Baez said he would like 30 days notice because, depending on the location of jury selection, he may have objections due to the pretrial publicity in said location.   GMAB!!    What....... if Baez's BS didn't hit the area, he will object?  You can't have it both ways Jose.  I bet the defense turns down one person after another. It may be the longest jury selection in history.

Jury Selection Date Set In Anthony Case
Casey Anthony Charged With Murder In Daughter's Death

POSTED: Friday, January 14, 2011
UPDATED: 3:39 pm EST January 14, 2011
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The jury-selection process in the upcoming Casey Anthony murder trial was discussed Friday at a court hearing.

Anthony, 24, did not attend the 50-minute hearing, which began just before 2 p.m.

At the hearing, Judge Belvin Perry said jury selection will begin May 9 at 8:30 a.m., and he estimated the cost to to transport, house, feed and secure the jury for eight weeks at $350,000.

On the first day, Perry said, 40 potential jurors will be called. Perry said he will read a brief statement generally describing the case and the indictment.

Potential jurors will then leave courtroom, and in randomly-selected groups of 10, they will be brought back and questioned individually by the judge and attorneys. The questions will fall into four categories, Perry said:

    * Hardship to be sequestered for 8-week trial
    * Exposure to pretrial publicity
    * Death qualification (can they render a death verdict, if necessary)
    * Individual questions from attorneys
After each potential juror is questioned, they will be immediately kept or dismissed. The judge can dismiss them, the attorneys can ask that the juror be removed on legal grounds or the attorneys can use one of their pre-emptory challenges, the number of which has not yet been determined.

If a juror is kept, they will leave their contact information behind and go home, Perry said.

In the following three days, attorneys will screen 30 jurors a day until they have their panel of 12 and a yet-to-be-determined number of alternates. On the final day, all jurors will return to the courtroom to be sworn in.

At the hearing, Anthony's defense team said it may want to provide a written jury questionnaire of about 20 questions. The prosecution, however, believes they're ineffective. Perry will decide at a later time whether to allow it.

For security, jurors may change hotels from night to night, either in Orange or Osceola counties. Both sides will approve a list of TV stations and DVDs the jurors can watch in their rooms.

Jurors will likely be referred to by number and not names to prevent media from staking out their families while they're sequestered, Perry said.

Jurors will usually take a daily lunch break from noon to 1:30 p.m., but it might be shortened if the trial starts dragging.

Anthony is jailed on first-degree murder charges in the death of her daughter, Caylee, whose remains were found in December 2008. Caylee was 2 years old when she was reported missing in July 2008, about a month after she was last seen alive.

Anthony has pleaded not guilty.

Even if the prosecution relented on sanctions, I hope Bozo et al realize that they had to beg and grovel, and their actions may be forgiven but won't be forgotten.

If Judge Perry relented, we will see both Jar and Bozo on TV gloating.
Gawd, I hope not, nothing can show what they're capable of more than past performance..so if they've gotten a pass for sure it will as usual embolden Bozo. Free to act up again.
Hope there's a written order from JP on it.

It is less than $600 dollars.............give me a break !! You would think it was A MILLION DOLLARS - It is sure not going to hurt Bozo's record as he already had a bankruptcy, two foreclosures, a dead beat dad rap, among all kinds other detrimental things on his record.

Remember that each side only gets so many turns to let people off without a good reason. The rest they have to have a reason and the judge must agree. The reasons are very specific. I know I have worked on cases where a juror stated that they felt that doctors are always right but could be impartial in this case and the plaintiff could not get them off the jury. Never was it reversed on appeal.

Casey Anthony's judge talks jury selection with lawyers
By Jacqueline Fell, Reporter
Last Updated: Friday, January 14, 2011 4:40 PM

ORLANDO --

Taxpayers can get ready to pay up when Casey Anthony's murder trial begins in May. The judge says it'll cost hundreds of thousands to maintain an out-of-town jury trial.

Chief Judge Belvin Perry will give lawyers in the case short notice when it's time to go pick a jury for the young mother's murder trial in May. He also has a detailed plan on how exactly they'll select 12 jurors and an undecided amount of alternates to basically move into an Orange County hotel for 8 weeks.

"It's sort of like summer camp," Perry said.

Perry will select 40 people on day one, then 30 thereafter until the pool is dwindled down.

Jurors will be questioned in four areas by the judge and attorneys.

Perry warned everyone to be prepared and plan ahead.

Feeding, housing and providing for more than 12 jurors is going to cost taxpayers $350,000.

Once the trial begins, jurors will be allowed to watch some TV, read some books and watch some DVD's. The judge gave both sides a list of TV channels he says have no news on them. Both sides have until April 1 to review the listed channels.

Casey Anthony: Judge says it will cost $350K to transport, feed and house jurors for eight week trial

By Anthony Colarossi, Orlando Sentinel

5:11 p.m. EST, January 14, 2011
During what seemed like a routine status conference in the Casey Anthony murder case Friday afternoon, Chief Judge Belvin Perry revealed the astronomic costs involved with seating a jury for the high-profile trial.

Perry said that it will cost a projected $350,000 to transport, feed and house the out-of-town jurors for a possible eight-week trial. Perry began Friday's conference in court with an understated pronouncement: "Jury selection will be different," he told the parties handling one of the nation's most-watched criminal cases.

He then proceeded to explain some of the ground rules for jury selection as the defense and prosecution teams and Casey Anthony all prepare for trial in May. The process will involve moving Casey Anthony, the legal teams and court officials to a still undisclosed location outside the Orlando area for jury selection.

Perry explained that 40 prospective jurors will be called the first day and then 30 jurors per day on days two through four until the two sides can find 12 jurors and "a certain number of alternates," Perry said.

Jurors will be separated in another courtroom and randomly divided into groups of 10. Then they'll be brought in individually for questioning in front of the judge and attorneys.
They'll first be asked questions about hardship issues in sitting on a jury for such an extensive trial. Second, they'll be asked questions about the pre-trial publicity that has surrounded the case. And then they'll be asked so-called "death qualification" questions.

Anthony, 24, who was not in court Friday, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie in 2008. She faces the death penalty if convicted.

Jurors in such cases must be at least open to recommending a death sentence if the jury ends up convicting the defendant.

Following those questions, Perry said the attorneys will be able to ask any other questions allowed by law. Once they find the jurors, they'll be sworn in before leaving that location and brought to Orlando for the trial.

On Friday, Perry gave the attorneys a list of suggested jury television channels and movies. Those selections do not include news stations so that the jurors will not see coverage of the trial as it progresses.

Essentials like doctors and dentists are being made available to accommodate the jury and make its members as comfortable as possible. "It's almost like going to summer camp," Perry said, adding that there is a significant amount of planning going on to "keep them safe and relatively happy."

The jurors will likely be referred to by their numbers and not their names. Casey Anthony will be transported to the location the Saturday or Sunday before selection begins in early May.

Perry asked both sides how much advance notice they'd like in knowing where the jury will be selected. Assistant State Attorney Linda Drane Burdick asked for 30 days, but Perry said, "I'm kind of leading towards two weeks' notice."
But that advance notice would go out to the legal teams, not the media. Perry has said repeatedly he wants to avoid pre-jury selection media coverage in the location where that jury is to be selected. So it is likely members of the media will find out much closer to the first day of jury selection where exactly it will be done.

Perry's court administration staff is scheduled to have a "media workshop" soon to discuss those logistics and other issues.

No motions were discussed Friday, and Perry otherwise checked on the progress of witness depositions by the defense and the state. The judge and the attorneys had two lengthy sidebar discussions outside the earshot of those in the courtroom, so it's not clear what other issues they talked about.

Defense attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney Mason walked out of the courthouse and refused to answer any questions from reporters.

The defense team recently has asked Perry to reconsider a sanction he imposed against Baez.

This week, the long-term defense lawyer for Casey Anthony paid a $583.73 penalty for failing to turn over witness information to state prosecutors, records show.

However, a letter written by Mason and dated Wednesday asked Assistant State Attorney Jeff Ashton to hold onto the check while Mason asks Perry to reconsider the punishment.

It's not clear whether that issue was discussed Friday, but earlier this week, Mason filed a motion with the court seeking reversal of the penalty.

I noticed during that during that session at the bench Bozo was biting his cheeks, frowning, and looking up at the ceiling. He looked like he was about to pop to say something, but he didn't.  I so hope Judge Perry did not release the sanction.

Truthfully, I really don't see that it matters what movies the jury watches for entertainment, but that's just me.

I would guess they would not want any movies about mothers viciously murdering their daughter to go do men and drugs. Maybe not any movies about a crazy family, with a father who was a rage-a-holic and a mother who was a rage-a-holic with a perverted brother who brings in a small innocent baby into the house to be murdered and dumped in the mother's old dope smoking area.

They also would not want to them to see an INVISIBLE NANNY the defense team keep promising to produce until they found the decapitated head of the 3 year old in a swamp.
