Law enforcement is now searching landfills across the Big Country, including one in Abilene, for any evidence in the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.

Sgt. Craig Jordan, with the Abilene Police Department, says officers and forensic investigators are currently searching Allied Waste Services in connection with the Dunn case. Jordan would not elaborate.

Law enforcement sources tell us cadaver dogs were believed to be on site.

Trash from Colorado City is transferred to Abilene, Odessa, or Snyder, Colorado City's City Manager Pete Kampfer said.

Texas DPS Senior Trooper Sparky Dean says many landfills in the vacinity of Colorado City have already been searched. Dean said searches of this nature are not uncommon in missing persons cases that may involve criminal activity.

An officer with the Abilene Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division was seen leaving Allied Waste Services Friday afternoon. When asked for a comment about why he was there, the officer told KTAB News all questions must be referred to Sparky Dean.

Earlier today, bigcountryhomepage.com spoke with someone at Abilene Environmental Landfill who said law enforcement contacted them and determined a search of their facility wasn't applicable. The person we spoke with said he believed a search was happening at Allied Waste.

And meant to add.. where were the grandmoms..if they knew she was in danger..heck even a bad situation, why didn't they offer to have her stay with them?  Doesn't seem like B would have minded at all..one less person to have to look in one at the early morning hours to statisfy herself that Hailey was there.  That statement goes a long way with me ...the grands knew Hailey was unhappy..why the heck didn't they do something.   

And don't come at me about courts, family relationships ..etc..both my grands live with me..as does my son.  And both my grands know they can tell Nana anything, anytime..and she will do what needs to be done.  Hell..didn't we all trust when we were little children in our parents that we could count on them to do the right thing?

What the heck has happened to our society that the adult individual comes first and the child is collaterial damage?  That even when things get difficult Grandparents don't stand up..that boyfriends are worth more then your children...dumbfounded here..and so scared for yet the next generation of these imbeciles.

Shawn Adkins isn't cooperating with investigators in the case of missing 13-year-old Hailey Dunn, according to Hailey's mom, Billie Dunn.

Billie Dunn had been dating Adkins for more than two years and had recently moved him into her home.

Adkins was named a suspect in the girl's disappearance this morning.

"It makes me really mad and it frustrates me," she said.  "He needs to be talking and cooperating."

When asked to address Adkins directly, Dunn spoke with great emotion.

"Shawn, if you have nothing to hide, I really wish you would talk to he investigators and would get this cleared up," she said.

Dunn said she thinks it's a possibility that Adkins had something to do with Hailey's disappearance on Dec. 27, but her gut leans more toward abduction by a stranger.

"We live right near I-20, and that's something that has scared me," she said.  "Hailey was home alone that day."

Dunn doesn't know what her future will with Adkins will be.  For now, she has eliminated contact with him.

I wonder also.   6 3M Trace Evidence Collection Filters with trace evidence from vehicle. -Misc. papers -1 Sterile Sheet with debris from trunk of vehicle.     Does anyone know what those items are?  A sterile sheet, like a bedsheet?

Could it mean that LE used a sterile sheet to gather debris or evidence from the trunk.  that is kinda how I took it - IDK - maybe they are qualifying what they used to gather hair/fiber/debris/dirt??

That's the way that I took it - that the "stuff" they took was the trace, and they listed how they obtained it.  Isn't there a method of collecting trace onto white paper, or a sheet?

Yeah, you're right Starwyn. I must have been confused. Only thing I'm still confused  about is that the debris was on a sterile sheet instead of sterile container or baggy. See why it threw me off? Is that normal procedure when taking evidence from a trunk?

Hey wait a sec...maybe the debris is stuff like trash, or things too big to fit into a container. That'd make a heck of alot of sense, then...huh?

Either way I'm done being confused about it. You guys are right - it had to be for le to remove the evidence. Now onto the cadaver dog hits...they hit twice? OMG.

Billie Dunn has known, IMO, every since she went to LE to report her daughter missing, who was responsible and what happened.  She is trying to save her own sorry butt now. too little, and too late.  I have no feelings about her other then she has known what happened since day one..err..night one..and gave her live in a few hours of ahead time to get rid of the body.  I feel nothing for Billie in all this..she knew what was happening and did not put a stop to it by moving this predator out of her home.  Instead she gave him axxess to her daughter..which fueled his and his friend's fantasys.  Mark my words..we will not find this child in one peice.

I agree Gypsy, another family turning a blind eye.....completely baffling. And a Grandmother at that? So what if she was getting stone walled if she did try to tell Billie? I am not sure why this might be relevent other than to show the "character" of SA and his cohorts but I did a search on the

ITA~i have been saying from the beginning she was off IMO, she never was emotional or I should say I never felt that she was that attached emotionally as she came across very detached and the "I am a wonderful mom " act and a victim drove me insane, obvisouly she wasn't even a decent mother and I sadly think she knew, possibly was involved and is covering for the psycho boy she is STILL considering to be in her life

Dunn Disappearance Suspect: Who is Shawn Adkins?

On Friday, investigators announced Shawn Adkins is a suspect in the disappearance of Colorado City 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.

At this point, you've probably seen video of Adkins' interviews following the disappearance of his girlfriend's daughter Hailey Dunn. You've also probably seen and read the news that he failed polygraph exams and is no longer being cooperative with law enforcement. On Friday morning, you probably viewed the shocking home videos that paint a difference picture of Adkins than he originally portrayed during his compassionate television interviews.

After seeing so many sides to this "person of interest," KTAB's Victor Sotelo hit the streets in Scurry and Mitchell Counties to try and find out who Adkins really is.

Sotelo began his day at the home in Dunn where Adkins is staying with a relative. A truck believed to be Adkins' vehicle was parked in the driveway. Sotelo knocked on the door and asked to speak with Adkins. The person who answered the door said Shawn was interested in making a statement.

Weaver Services, Inc.(WSI) and Weaver Construction have been fully cooperating with law enforcements authorities in connection with the investigation of Hailey Dunn's disappearance. But because we do not want to compromise the investigation in any way, we will not have any further comment for the press or media until the investigation is complete other than to emphasize that our thoughts and concerns are with Hailey during this very difficult time and we continue to hope for a positive outcome.

Sotelo then traveled to Snyder High School where Adkins was a 2003 graduate. Sotelo went inside and asked to speak with someone about the case. The school called its legal department and told Sotelo they wouldn't hear back until Monday.

Sotelo was able to get his hands on Snyder High School yearbooks dating back to the time Adkins was a student. Though Adkins was listed in the 2003 edition, his picture wasn't there. In a section of senior class accomplishments, no items were listed next to Adkins' name. In his junior yearbrook, Adkins is in a Theatre Arts group shot frowning on the top row.

"He was quiet...always quiet," said Linda Delatorre who lives in the neighborhood where Adkins grew up. "He just kept to himself all the time."

Sotelo met up with a few volunteer searchers who gathered in Dunn outside of the home where Adkins is staying. The group said it makes sure to go by the home in Dunn each day to make its precense felt.

O there are a ton of holes in what she is attempting to make the public think she feels.   He already threatened them, so why is she acting shocked    O, how convenient, now 2 weeks later it occurs to her that she lives near a highway & that is why she thinks its a stranger abduction...not to mention she is totally lying about being afraid to leave Hailey home alone, she's done it repetitively & she is kidding no one with half a brain!    She is speaking angry words but STILL states she doesnt know if she will take him back    The writing is on the wall beeotch, get a grip & tell authorities what you factually know, ya know the truth...eventually all your dirt will come out & no one is going to think anything else other than they already do about your sorry rump....psst this isnt about you its about a 13 year old child that YOU failed no matter the outcome of this case

ITA Kat, I think LE has a reason to search the landfill that is not just to exclude the possibility something may have ended up there. I've been in the Solid Waste Industry for many years. Not in collection, but Landfills and Transfer Stations.


One thing I wanted to point out; The grid search method is only going to be as good as the data supplied. What I mean is, most landfills keep some sort of records on daily fill sequences. For instance we record fill elevation coordinates daily (GPS) in our manager's log. If our site were approached and we were asked where waste was placed on a specific day, we could easily do that based on our records. However, not all facilities record that info on a daily basis. Kind of what Kat was talking about in the Zahra case, the mattress was not in the *grid*.

The machine at the landfill which is excavating the waste is not a backhoe, but an excavator. If they utilize a dog and that particular piece of equipment they should be able to make quick progress.

God bless Hailey, I am just heartsick. So many adults failed her ...

I'll bet the 3 M sheets are those sticky ones CSI uses to pull trace evidence off of seats, fabric, carpeted areas.  Somehow it may have led LE to the dump or perhaps that time spent at home after SA left work was making sure HD was picked up in the trash or he hid her body in the car until he could place her somewhere that would be picked up by garbage truck and hauled off. SA could have put her body in any trash can that morning and then headed to dear ol' Mom's!  I'm wondering if BD did know what happened and is covering for her beloved Horrorcore Freak.  By the way, that is what that type of music is called. Horrorcore.  It's getting popular with all the displaced kids interested in horror.  There is even horrorcore rap! No kidding.  To most, it's just a phase some kids go through and as with all things there are those 'chosen idiots' who take it way too far and get off on it.  One more gross factoid...the kids and bands, most dress up like rotting/butchered corpses to go to the concerts.  Lovely, isn't it?  It's no freakin' wonder HD was scared of SA.  I'd say petrified prolly!

DALLAS - A man named as a person of interest in the case of a missing 13-year-old girl from West Texas said Friday that he is not responsible for her disappearance.

Shawn Adkins, 25, told The Associated Press he would "never ever do anything to harm Hailey" Dunn, whose mother reported her missing Dec. 28 in Colorado City, a 4,500-resident town about 240 miles west of Dallas. Adkins was then the live-in boyfriend of Billie Dunn, Hailey's mother.

Adkins said he prays daily for Hailey's safe return.

Billie Dunn told police that Adkins said he last saw the teen Dec. 27. According to police, Dunn said Adkins told her Hailey said she was walking to her father's home nearby and then to a friend's house where she was spending the night. The middle school cheerleader did not arrive at either location.

Colorado City's city manager, Pete Kampfer, said Friday that Adkins still is among several people of interest in the investigation but declined to offer details about any others. No one has been arrested in the case.

Kampfer, who is serving as Colorado City's police spokesman on the case, said several law enforcement agencies are actively searching for the teen, including police, the Texas Rangers and FBI.

"They assure me they check out every lead," Billie Dunn told the AP on Friday. "They're not just looking at him (Adkins). Anything could have happened.

"But I don't feel like they're getting anywhere with anything," she said. "It's been 18 days."

Dunn has denied any involvement in her daughter's disappearance. She said she asked Adkins to move out of their home Jan. 5.

"When I asked him to leave the house, he was just crying a lot, saying `You know me. You know I love you and David,'" Hailey's 16-year-old brother, Dunn said. "'You know that I would never hurt you.'"

Dunn said Friday she had not exchanged text messages with Adkins in a few days.

Adkins told the AP he loves Hailey and that his life has been "flipped upside down" since her disappearance.

"I struggle so hard just to make it through the day," he said. "I can't begin to imagine what Hailey's family, especially her parents and brother are going through." (I hope so!) BBM

Adkins said police have misquoted him in affidavits.

In one, police said Adkins at first was "very positive" about Hailey, but that as time went on he indicated she was promiscuous and used drugs. Adkins denied that Friday. He said he had told police Billie and Hailey Dunn had discussed birth control and that he had told investigators the teen was "boy crazy."

Her father, Clint Dunn, has said Hailey is popular, isn't into boys or drugs and "she's just a good ol' American girl."

Another affidavit said police disputed Adkins' assertion that he went straight to visit his mother in Big Spring, some 40 miles west of Colorado City, after he left work at 6:10 a.m. on Dec. 27. Police said cell phone records indicated he had been in Colorado City between 6:35 a.m. and 6:56 a.m. On Friday he again said he had gone straight to his mother's house that day.

More than 100 billboards featuring Hailey's picture, information about the case and a law enforcement phone number have been set up along interstates in West Texas and elsewhere. The girl is described as white, 5-foot-1, 120 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair with blondish streaks.

Dunn said it's been a difficult time.

"I don't know whether she's safe, I don't know whether she's hurt," Dunn said. "I don't know if she's somewhere wondering 'Why hasn't my mom found me?' That's the hardest.

She said she also wanted people to know her daughter is more than "the cheerleader," noting Hailey also plays volleyball, basketball and softball and is a first chair saxophone player in the school band.
