Hailey Dunn update: Over 100 attend prayer vigil for missing Texas teen

On Friday evening, about 150 people came together to pray for the safe return of missing Texas teen Hailey Dunn.

The candlelight vigil took place at the First Baptist Church of Colorado City and served as an event to hand out special reminders of the young cheerleader.

Hailey’s fellow classmates made buttons that have her picture on them and read “Have you seen me? Call 9-1-1.”

Hailey, 13, was last seen on December 27. According to police, Shawn Adkins -- her mother’s boyfriend -- claims the girl told him she was walking a short distance to her father’s home and then over to a friend’s to spend the night. She never arrived at either location. Her mother, Billie Dunn, reported her missing on December 28.

According to KTXS, news media was not allowed into the prayer vigil, but the news outlet was able to speak to the mayor of Colorado City outside the event.

“I thought about it real hard last night,” said Mayor Carl Sue Dakan. “Basically what I’m going to say is that 13 years ago the Lord gave his child to Billie and Clint to raise. Today that child is lost and we need help in finding her. We need to bring her home and I’m gonna ask the good lord to be sure and sharpen everybody’s eyes and to guide their steps.”

Hailey is described as having brown hair with hazel eyes, and being about 5-foot-tall and 120 pounds. She was last seen wearing navy blue sweatpants, a light-colored short-sleeved T-shirt, pink and white tennis shoes or flip flops and red hoop earrings.

Anyone with information regarding Hailey’s case is urged to call the Colorado City Police Department at 325-728-5294.

I finally got to see the NG show that talked about the red earring and if it's true Hailey was using that pair to gauge her ears, then she wouldn't have removed them.

That said is it common in Colorado for 13 year olds to gauge their ears? That use to be a "when you're 18 and out of my house" thing. What or who made her decide to do this at 13 and have they looked at that crowd? I guess Billie did say these were as big as she would allow her daughter to go, so maybe they weren't that big-I hope.

If anyone isn't sure what gauging is it's a trend involving gradually increasing the size of the piercings in their ears. Normal earrings are size 18 or 20. With gauging, they can be stretched to 1/2 inch + in diameter. Ive seen people with holes big enough for jar lids and yuck!

Training of searchers continues, as does hunt for Hailey Dunn 1/22

COLORADO CITY — Seventy volunteers assembled Saturday at the Colorado City Civic Center to renew the search for 13-year-old Hailey Dunn, who has was reported missing Dec. 28.

The search effort again concentrated in Scurry County, although areas along the Interstate 20 frontage road near the Wallace Prison Unit in Colorado City also were scoured, leaders of the group said.

"We've met with law enforcement and gone over the areas that have been searched and haven't been searched," said Janice Liggett, a volunteer coordinator with Laura Recovery Center, which, along with the KlaasKids Foundation representatives, has helped organize the volunteer search effort.

"Law enforcement asked us to go back into some of the areas that have been previously searched just to re-search those areas and to document them."

Pete Kampfer, Colorado City's city manager and media liaison for the task force on the case of the missing teenager, said a criminal investigation continues to be the focus of the task force.

Two weeks ago, eight agencies were involved in the investigation, he said.

"Right now, we're at six," Kampfer said. "In the next couple of weeks, it will probably become predominantly a city of Colorado City (police department), Mitchell County Sheriff's Office, Scurry County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers" investigation, he said.

Brad Dennis, director of search operations for the KlaasKids Foundation, returned to Florida on Saturday morning
, ending his work with local volunteers.

Liggett and Dawn Davis, also with Laura Recovery Center, will continue to organize and train volunteers today before departing this evening. Liggett said one of her group's objective is to ensure that the local community is properly trained to carry on the search using the right tools and processes to document their efforts in the days and perhaps weeks ahead.

"The important thing to law enforcement is that information be documented to them ... that they've got documentation of the areas being searched that can be used not only in the investigation but, if necessary, in a prosecution," Liggett said.

A core group of six to eight volunteers will be trained on how to organize searches.

"We will leave behind a search manual that gives all of the A to Z on how to do the registration, the briefing, mapping, debriefing and all the various functions that are performed," Liggett said.

"The main thing I would like to emphasize is that people not to give up hope on finding Hailey. It may not be today, but she will be brought home.We all pray for that. And actually, probably in 80 to 88 percent of the cases, we do bring them home, and often times they still come home alive.

"Let's keep hoping that Hailey is safe and alive."

Law enforcement will continue to work with volunteers.

"We'll work with them as well as helping supply maps and supplies," Kampfer said. "They can use the Civic Center — whatever we can help them along with we surely will."

No arrests have been made in the missing person case, though Shawn Adkins, the former live-in boyfriend of Billie Jean Dunn, the missing teen's mother, has been named a suspect by law enforcement.

Man Arrested for Kidnapping Lubbock Teen, Girl Still Missing

Lubbock police arrested a man accused of kidnapping a 15-year-old Elizabeth Ennen. While a suspect is behind bars, the girl remains no where to be found.
Before Saturday, Ennen was considered an endangered runaway. Law enforcement now believes she's the victim of a kidnapping.

Humberto Salinas, 45, has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and is in the Lubbock County jail. It's unclear why police arrested him for the crime.

Ennen is described as a white female, 5'3", 135 pounds with sandy brown hair, and brown eyes. According to National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, she might go by the nickname Beth or Lizzie.

Ennen went missing January 5 after she went to a baby-sitting job at the Carriage House Motel.

Makes you wonder about Hailey's trail going to the motel there in Colorado City. Does anyone know if Hailey babysat? I really think we know who was involved in Hailey's disappearance, but it does give you pause to think.

JSM, there is no need for you not to post. My point about the video was it was explaining what Billie said about finding Hailey in the dirt. KLAAS is right. In the whole scheme of things it really doesn't matter. Please come back and post. We just have a difference of opinion. Please?  an angelic monkey

I think they have one of those trackers on his vehicle and know exactly where he is. Or at least, I sure hope so. They may want to see if he goes back to the area to see if everything is still ok. It is not unheard of. Maybe the "feel" part is some more of their double speak.

Volunteers Begin Aerial Search for Dunn

Volunteers took to the sky on Saturday for the first time in the search for Hailey Dunn.

Searcher Kyle Guthrie pointed out remote areas he didn't know existed from the passenger seat of a small plane.

"On the ground, you're looking at the same terrain over and over again. When you're in the air, you're looking at every single square mile there is," he said.

In just two hours, the plane covered about 250 miles of terrain in Snyder, Dunn, Ira, Colorado City, and several bodies of water.
"Hundreds of miles in a circle. And by vehicle, that's going to take days," Guthrie said.

The aircraft has to stay at least 1,000 feet above populated areas such as Snyder, but can get as low as 200 feet from the ground in more rural territory.

Once Guthrie landed Saturday morning, he met up with other searchers to devise a plan to visit areas that caught his eye from the air. Starting Sunday, the groups will search simultaneously with Kyle guiding the ground crews with walkie talkies.

"We're going to follow his guidance into areas that we cant see from land. Whatever I can do to help is what I'm going to do to help," said ground crew member Robert Howell.

The group will meet early Sunday morning to continue their search.

It was just a thought. I thought maybe she didn't want anyone to know she was doing it and was trying to make some extra money. I don't really think that is what happened though.
