Kailee Clapp, Neb. Girl Reported Missing, Believed Found Dead
January 24, 2011

OMAHA, Neb. (CBS/KOLN/AP) Authorities believe they have found the remains of 14-year-old Nebraska girl Kailee Clapp, who was reported missing from her McCook home on Friday, Jan. 21.

Police say a person of interest was arrested in case and remained in custody Sunday, although say no formal charges had been filed.
According to CBS affiliate KOLN, the 18-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon, but police have not said how he's connected to Kailee, who was reported missing from her home in McCook about 7 a.m. Friday. The man's name has not been released.

A body was found late Friday in a field near Bartley, about 15 miles east of McCook in south-central Nebraska. Investigators said Saturday that they believe it is Clapp. Authorities haven't released information about the cause of death.

The girl's mother, Nora Clapp, said she last saw her daughter, the youngest of three children, about 9:30 p.m. Thursday as she was getting ready for bed. Her 18-year-old sister saw her about an hour later, the mother said.

Nora Clapp said she alerted police just after 7 a.m. Friday when she realized her daughter was missing, but didn't think she was in danger. But by Friday afternoon, police said, officers had discovered information that her life could be in jeopardy. Police didn't elaborate. The 18-year-old male was arrested about the same time Friday.

Nora Clapp said her daughter was a freshman at McCook High School and wanted to be a photographer when she grew up.

"She was a very sweet, loving, ornery, loved girl," her mother said Saturday in an interview with The Associated Press. "She was very friendly. She would be, like, the first person to make you her friend when you were the new person in school."

Suspect Named in Connection with McCook Teen's Death
January 24, 2011

http://ntv.images.worldnow.com/images/13899073_BG1.jpg

The following is a media release from the McCook Police Department/Red Willow County Sheriff's Office:

January 24, 2011

The McCook Police Department received a report at approximately 7:11 AM on January 21, 2011 that Kailee N. Clapp, a 14 year old female resident of McCook was missing from her home.  The initial report did not indicate that the juvenile was endangered.

McCook Police Officers investigated the report throughout January 21, 2011.  During the late afternoon of January 21 information was developed that indicated the juvenile was endangered.

The body of a person believed to be Kailee N. Clapp was located by McCook Police Officers and Red Willow County Sheriff's Department Deputies near Bartley, NE on the late evening of January 21st. Positive identification of the deceased is pending.

Stathis Kirkpatrick was identified as a person of interest in the investigation on the late afternoon of January 21st. Kirkpatrick, eighteen year old male, was taken into custody late January 21 by McCook Officers and remains in custody at this time. Mr. Kirkpatrick is an unemployed resident of the Bartley, Nebraska area.

Bail has been set at $1,000,000 pending Mr. Kirkpatrick's arraignment in Red Willow County Court at 11:30 AM on January 27, 2011. Additional criminal charges are pending as determined by the investigation.

An autopsy of a person tentatively identified as Kailee Clapp was conducted in Omaha, Nebraska on January 22, 2011. Results of the autopsy and other forensic tests are pending.

Details of the investigation, circumstances of the arrest, and photographs of Stathis Kirkpatrick are not available at this time as disclosure of the information would likely interfere with the ongoing investigation and the fact that there is no such information on record at this time.

The McCook Police Department and Red Willow County Sheriff's Department are currently conducting the investigation jointly, due to the multiple locations of evidence and activity involved in the investigation. The Nebraska State Patrol and Federal Law enforcement personnel are continuing to participate in the ongoing investigation.

Additional information will be forthcoming as the investigation progresses and it becomes available. McCook Police Chief Isaac Brown has been designated as the contact person for media.

Man arrested in connection with girl's death
January 24, 2011

Kailee Clapp

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The body of a young girl discovered on cemetery property northwest of Bartley, Nebraska, Friday evening has been identified as that of Kailee Nichole Clapp, a 14-year-old McCook girl reported missing early Friday morning.

An 18-year-old Bartley, Nebraska, man has been jailed since late Friday in connection with Clapp's disappearance and death. Charges against Stathis Sebastian Mobley Kirkpatrick, 18, of Bartley, are pending the results of an autopsy being conducted in Omaha.

Kailee Clapp, a freshman at McCook Senior High, went missing through the night of Thursday and Friday. Her mother, Nora, said she last saw her youngest daughter about 9:30 p.m., Thursday, and that Kailee's sister, Karen, who turned 18 years old Saturday, saw her about 10:30 p.m., Thursday. Kailee was not in her bedroom the next morning before school.

Nora contacted McCook police at 7:11 a.m., Friday, and McCook police investigated the girl's disappearance throughout the day, according to a press release from the McCook Police Department Saturday morning.

McCook Police Chief Ike Brown told the Gazette about 9:30 a.m., Friday morning that his department did not believe there was any criminal involvement in Kailee Clapp's disappearance.

Late Friday afternoon, a person of interest, an 18-year-old Bartley man. was identified and questioned. Red Willow County Attorney Paul Wood said this morning that the man, Stathis S.M. Kirkpatrick, was detained by police late Friday; Kirkpatrick did not turn himself him, Wood said.

Late Friday evening, McCook police officials discovered a body they believed to be Kailee's at the Bartley Cemetery. The body was taken Saturday for an autopsy in Omaha.

Wood said that at this time, it does not appear anyone else is involved. The investigation continues, he said.

Kirkpatrick remains in jail in McCook this morning. He will be arraigned in Red Willow County Court in the McCook courthouse, before Judge Anne Paine, Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

Involved in the investigation are the McCook police, the Red Willow County Sheriff's Office, the Nebraska State Patrol and the FBI Evidence Recovery Team.

Kailee is the daughter of Nora and Kelly Clapp of McCook. Memorial services for Kailee are scheduled Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at McCook Memorial Auditorium, West Fifth and C Streets, in McCook. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Nora Clapp said she was "mad as hell -- I hope (the suspect) he gets everything he deserves."

Still, she said, "I want him to have a fair trial," even if it involves moving it somewhere else.

She had high praise for the three officers and detective with the McCook Police Department involved in the case saying they investigated "every tiny lead" and didn't let up until the case was solved.

She also expressed her appreciation for the outpouring of love and concern shown for her and her family.

"The community has been tremendous," she said.

Missing Kailee Clapp's Body Found, Suspect Arrested
By Robin Stanfill
Published Jan 24, 2011

The remains of 14 year old Nebraska girl, Kailee Clapp, were found. 18 year old, Stathis Sebastian Mobley Kirkpatrick, has been arrested.

The remains of 14 year old Nebraska girl, Kailee Clapp, were found late Friday afternoon, January 21, 2011. The little girl’s body was found on the property of the Bartley Cemetary, which is about 15 miles east of McCook, Nebraska. Her body is reportedly mutilated and partially dismembered. Law enforcement have not released information about the cause of death. Kaylee’s body was sent for an autopsy in Omaha on Saturday.

Kailee was reported missing by her mother, Nora Clapp, on Friday, January 12, 2011. Kailee was last seen, on Thursday night, by her mother at approximately 9:30 p.m., and sister at approximately 10:30 p.m., getting ready for bed. Kailee’s mother reported she was not in her room at 7:00 the following morning, when she went to wake her for school.

During the search for Kailee, there was discovered a pool of blood in the alley near her home, approximately 100 yards from her house.

Law enforcement currently have in custody 18 year old, Stathis Sebastian Mobley Kirkpatrick, of Bartley, Nebraska. Kirkpatrick is currently being held on a $1,000,000.00 bond; however, official charges are pending the results of the autopsy. Law enforcement are not saying how Kirkpatrick is connected to Kailee, but he reportedly sent a threatening message to Kailee, at approximately 3:30 a.m., on the date of her disappearance.

The McCook Police Department and Red Willow County Sheriff's Department are currently conducting concurrent investigations, due to evidence found in both jurisdictions. The Federal Beuru of Investigation and the Nebraska State Patrol are also contributing to the ongoing investigation.

Kailee Clapp was a freshman at McCook Senior High. Kailee's mother, Nora Clapp told The Associated Press that Kailee “was a very sweet, loving, ornery, loved girl", and that "She was very friendly. She would be, like, the first person to make you her friend when you were the new person in school."

Rebecca Patterson, a McCook resident and family friend, said Kailee was "very bubbly, always happy." "She'll be missed, forever" . "There wasn't a person who didn't love her. Except the person who did this to her", said Patterson.

Kirkpatrick remains in jail in McCook, Nebraska. He will be arraigned in Red Willow County Court in the McCook courthouse, before Judge Anne Paine, January 27, 2011, at 11:30 a.m.

According to local law enforcement, the case is unusual for the small town of McCook. "Unfortunately, tragedies happen everywhere", "McCook is a great town with low crime rate and a good place to raise a family", said Police Chief Isaac Brown.

I wonder if this case involves goth or devil worshiping since the body was mutilated/dismembered <<<according to NG show>>>>>.  Like that 16 yr old girl in Missouri who took the little 9 yr old and murdered her...just a thought...not my opinion at all...not enough evidence to really know yet..or maybe he had a fixation/obsession for Kailee?
why are they not releasing this criminal's picture??

Kailee Clapp Update: Person of Interest Held in Case of Neb. Girl Believed Dead
January 25, 2011

OMAHA, Neb. (CBS/KOLN/AP) Authorities believe they have found the remains of 14-year-old Nebraska girl Kailee Clapp, who was reported missing from her McCook home on Friday, Jan. 21.
Police say 18-year-old Stathis Kirkpatrick was arrested as a person of interest in the case and remains in custody, although no formal charges had been filed.

According to CBS affiliate KOLN, Kirkpatrick was arrested Friday afternoon, but police have not said how he's connected to Kailee, who was reported missing from her home in McCook about 7 a.m. Friday.

"Details of the investigation, circumstances of the arrest and photographs of Kirkpatrick are not available at this time," according to a press release obtained by the station. "...disclosure of the information would likely interfere with the ongoing investigation..."

Nora Clapp said her daughter was a freshman at McCook High School and wanted to be a photographer when she grew up.

Kirkpatrick's bail has been set at $1 million pending an arraignment on Thursday.

Police: Amber Alert considered before missing girl's body found
January 25, 2011

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Officials considered issuing an Amber Alert for Kailee Clapp, but didn't have the time or information that would have made it appropriate, according to the McCook Police Chief.

An Amber Alert couldn't be issued because the case lacked key triggers, Police Chief Ike Brown said..

"One of the first items discussed [this weekend] was the AMBER Alert," Brown said, "but we did not have all the information required to issue one until we no longer needed it. We need a suspect, description of vehicle, and direction of travel on top of the other requirements [to activate the Amber Alert]. It happened so close together in time."

"The Amber Alert program is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies, broadcasters, transportation agencies, and the wireless industry, to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child-abduction cases.

The goal of an Amber Alert is to "instantly galvanize the entire community to assist in the search for and the safe recovery of the child." according to www.amberalert.gov.

Amber Alert plans are different by state and in some areas by counties and cities. There are 34 local plans in eight states, 27 regional plans spanning eight states, and all 50 states plus Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands have statewide plans that are able to be enacted.

Nebraska has a single-system that spans the entire state. The Nebraska Amber Plan requires law enforcement to meet specific guidelines in order to issue an alert for a child abduction:

* the person is 17 years old or younger

* police have reason to believe the child is in danger of serious bodily harm or death

* there is sufficient information available concerning the suspected abductor that the public can respond

* the notifying law enforcement agency has participated in AMBER training for purposes of issuing AMBER Alerts.

* The plan is not intended for use in runaway or child custody situations.

If the guidelines are met, the local law enforcement agency contacts the Nebraska State Patrol to request the activation of the Amber Plan.

The NSP verifies that the guidelines have been met then activates the system through the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications, which is then broadcasted over the State Emergency Alert System.

Once the initial EAS broadcast has occurred, the information is sent to all radio and television stations in Nebraska, and participating stations will then re-broadcast the information at regular intervals until the alert is canceled.

I've been following this case various places and here are a few things not yet posted here...

A video showing the house and the alley http://www.knopnews2.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=467:a-familys-worst-nightmare&Itemid=50 .

The blood has been cleaned up but from the stain that remains it's obvious it was HUGE.

The alleged threat on Facebook:

"A provocative status update was posted Thursday on Facebook by Kirkpatrick’s teenage girlfriend, whose name will not be printed at this time. The girl posted, “Mess with me or my man and I’ll (expletive) KILL you, f**,” at 6:18 p.m. Thursday, shortly before Clapp allegedly went missing from her home." (Source: http://www.northplattebulletin.com/index.asp?show=news&action=readStory&storyID=20183&pageID=3)

It was not posted to Kailee's page but to the suspect's gf's page I believe. Some of the kids there are saying though it wasn't meant for Kailee but for a boy...there's a comment further down that page that alludes to someone who tried to run them off the road. But it does seem an odd coincidence though given the timing, doesn't it?

It's also been suggested that this threat is what led police to suddenly realize she was not a runaway and to find the boyfriend, now suspect.

Locals keep posting comments in different places saying things like "if even half of what is rumored to have happened happened...." Combined with the fact the 18 yo suspect is being held on $1M bond, I think we can assume the details are going to be grisly.

One girl posting in the comments here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=funeww4w0uM had an interesting response to other comments about people needing to lock their doors more, which may explain why she may have gone outside in the middle of the night:

"She locked her door you guys. Her bf b4 she broke up with him asked her to come outside so they can 'work it out'"

And I can't find it now, but somewhere a second cousin posted that he did this because he was interested in Kailee and she told him to go away forever.

And while this isn't directly related to the case, this comment on http://www.khastv.com/news/local/Remembering-Kailee-Clapp-114436389.html did hearten me that maybe, just maybe her story might help other girls look out for themselves more...

"xxxx (I'm assuming the girl is a minor) said yesterday at 2:13 AM

I'm so sorry for what happened to you Kailee. Even though I didn't know you at all. I learned from your story. I almost put myself in that kind of situation but your story saved me. Thank you and I'm sorry about your death. But at least you came through to me, most people don't, so thanks for living and being a human and I am truly sorry."

Charges detailed below as well as how they zeroed in on the suspect--sounds like it may not have happened as quickly as it did if not for the Dad... And the arrogance of this kid, despite all the evidence against him, is just freaking incredible.

Kirkpatrick charged in Kailee Clapp's death

McCook - An 18-year-old Red Willow County resident was officially charged Thursday with first-degree murder, as well as three other crimes related to the Jan. 21 death of a 14-year-old McCook girl.

County Attorney Paul Wood presented the four charges against Stathis Kirkpatrick on Thursday during an arraignment hearing in Red Willow County Court in McCook. The hearing resolved at least one question that has lingered around the death of McCook resident Kailee Clapp; burned human remains found in a Bartley cemetery were confirmed by authorities as being those of the missing teen.

Charges against Kirkpatrick were murder in the first degree, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, tampering with physical evidence and unlawful burial. If convicted of a Class I felony, Kirkpatrick could receive a death sentence.

Kirkpatrick's lawyer, Derek Mitchell, said Kirkpatrick is denying all charges.

Kirkpatrick waives preliminary hearing
Friday, February 11, 2011

Connie Jo Discoe
McCOOK, Nebraska -- The Bartley, Nebraska, man accused of murdering a 14-year-old McCook girl waived his preliminary hearing this morning in Red Willow County court in McCook.
Judge Anne Paine ordered Stathis Sebastian Mobley Kirkpatrick to appear in district court on Monday, March 7, at 3 p.m., to face first degree murder charges in the death of Kailee Nichole Clapp, a freshman at McCook Senior High.

Kirkpatrick, who turns 19 years old on March 5, is also charged with use of a knife or other deadly weapon to commit a felony, tampering with physical evidence; and unlawful burial (throwing away or abandoning human skeletal remains), each a felony charge.

Red Willow County Attorney Paul Wood accuses Kirkpatrick of killing Clapp on or about Jan. 21, either "purposely and with deliberate and premeditated malice" or "in the perpetration of or attempt to perpetrate a kidnapping."

Kirkpatrick was accompanied into the courtroom this morning by Red Willow County Sheriff Gene Mahon and his deputies. The defendant appeared wearing an orange jail jumpsuit, leg shackles and handcuffs, but without the long, purple hair style he wore at his arraignment Jan. 27. With family members seated on a courtroom bench behind him, he answered "yeah" and "yes" to questions from Judge Paine.

 ::snipping2::

Kirkpatrick said that when he went to Kailee's house, he discovered an unknown male, who had a full-sized black Dodge pickup, attacking Kailee in the alley behind her home. Kirkpatrick said he tried to attack the male subject, who then hit Kailee with his pickup. Kirkpatrick told the officer that he put Kailee in the bed of his own pickup to take her to the hospital, but the unknown male attacked Kirkpatrick, hit Kirkpatrick with his pickup and put Kailee's body in his own pickup.

Kirkpatrick told officers he chased the male to the Bartley cemetery, where the male burned Kailee's body. Kirkpatrick told a McCook police investigator that he went into the graveyard and saw where Kailee was lying. Kirkpatrick told officers he did not think of calling for help while he was chasing the male subject.
