Casey's Lead Attorney Gets Lectured By Judge
Posted: 1:09 pm EST February 4, 2011Updated: 4:51 pm EST February 4, 2011ORANGE CITY, Fla. -- The lead attorney in the case against Casey took some more heat late Friday afternoon; Jose Baez was lectured for missing more court deadlines, and this has already gotten him in trouble before.

The defense says it still needs more time, even though one defense expert who hasn't yet written her report is "Tweeting" about nursing her sick cat, working on her new book, and vacationing in Tahiti.

The judge did not give Baez as much time as he wanted and is obviously losing patience with him.

"The experts, do they have telephones?" Judge Belvin Perry asked Baez rhetorically in court Friday.

Judge Perry asked Baez pointed questions after the defense missed Perry's deadline by ten days to give prosecutors reports of defense experts' opinions. Four are not done, which are holding up prosecutors' depositions.

Baez claims two of his experts are not even returning his calls.

"If they don't have the reports in by February 15, I guess they will not be testifying," Judge Perry said.

It was a rough day in court for Casey Anthony’s defense team. The television reports today highlighted how Chief Judge Belvin Perry repeatedly criticized the defense during a status hearing. It was a memorable day, all right. Did you ever see scenes like this on “Perry Mason” or “L.A. Law”?

“It appeared in this hearing that Judge Perry was taking an opportunity at every turn to make sure the Case Anthony defense team was doing what it’s supposed to,” WESH-Channel 2’s Greg Fox reported. “Over Jose Baez’s strong objections, he set May 2 as the day on which he is going to reveal the county in which he hopes to impanel a jury to hear this case.”

And a huge mistake by this defense team since day 1, if you want to have the advantage of portraying your client as innocent & pled her case it would have served them well to bite their tongues, put their umbrellas away & stifle the "tude," romancing the media with pleasantries would have worked out better for them & their client...then again, no one can claim Bozo & Colonel Crusty as geniuses.

Perry even lectured Biaz on phone use: “I can’t understand why you won’t pick up a phone and talk to him.”

WESH’s Fox reported, “Perry chastised Baez and, during the hearing, ordered him to provide him with a number for one expert so Perry could arrange for deposition.”

WFTV-Channel 9’s Kathi Belich reported, “Baez says his own experts aren’t returning his calls. And another defense expert who has not yet written her report has been tweeting about caring for her sick cat, working on her new book and vacationing in Tahiti.
