Capp

Considering it was not a life and death situation ... unless I were in a position to assume full financial responsibility if I caused an accident which resulted in serious injuries to myself and/or others ... I do not believe I have a moral or legal right to get behind that wheel.  Driving without a license and driving without insurance would not have been an option.

Nevetheless ... when you think about aspects of Clint Dunn's ongong selfish choices in life that disregarded rules/laws ... disregarded consequences that would prevent him from gaining custody of Hailey ... a mindset exists that I do not comprehend.

Was custody of Hailey not worth doing what had to be done to quit his drug habit.  The resulting criminal record that kept getting longer and ... in all probability ... prevented him from acquiring employment ... implied that Hailey's desire to live with him was never going to happen.

When you consider the following Youtube video ... was Clint moving heaven and earth to do what had to be done to gain custody of his precious daughter ... his precious daughter who had been threatened by Shawn ... his precious daughter who according to his own mother was scared of Shawn.

My focus is Hailey.  Clint and Billie did not deserve the blessing the God has given them.

Janet

When I consider the lifetime financial consequences to others if an uninsured Clint should be the cause an accident ... I do not consider driving without a license a mere misdemeanor.  IMO.

In regard to so many aspects of Clint's lifestyle ... the conequences of his actions for himself as well as how his actions will affect others are not a consideration.

Unless it was a life and death situation ... how many on this forum would get behind the wheel of a vehicle without insurance ... without a valid driving license?

Janet

While we might agree in most aspects that someone's lifestyle might have no consideration how it would affect others, there are distinctions to be made in others & should not be painted with such a broad brush.

I'll own up to something some may be rather shocked over both due to my general character & past work-related background but this very responsible & law abiding citizen suffered a few major temporary financial slumps as a single mother of two often as millions do.   On one of those occasions I could not pay my car insurance for 1 1/2 months but yet I had to get to work & tend to my childrens' needs so during that time when I had no choice with other transportation options I had to drive.   It wasnt ideal & was rather nerve racking for me personally but necessity dictated taking the risk for that brief period of time on that one occasion.    My children's immediate vital needs & the fact that I had to earn income for the three of us overruled what the law states or the minimal risk I took if I were to get in an accident temporarily.   There is a distinction from a situation such as this versus an individual who has no regard for the law or others.

Some may ridicule that decision, so be it...but I never sat on my rear making excuses or cried me my own river, I did what I had to do to get up and over a setback for the overall well-being of my children, secondarily myself.   Should I be considered a criminal, or an individual with poor judgment or negligent parent now?  Suffice it to say, God help the person that attempts it because the wrath will be unmerciful.
There are so many uninsured motorists nationwide, for various reasons...most of which happen to be bc insurance rates are ridiculously high. NJ has the highest rate in the country, and it wouldn't surprise me if NJ has the highest uninsured motorist rate to coincide with that as well. I drove for almost a month with expired insurance bc my check bounced (after my 2 oldest boys' father & I split up). When thinking of what Janet just said - let me tell you Capp, that we split up right after Christmas about 12 years ago, I used his car to go shopping at Toys R Us on my lunch break at work (we both worked at the same place), I was in a car accident (the other driver's fault) - the lady totalled my ex's car & I was pretty scraped up, guess what? He let his insurance lapse on his car and I had no idea at all. I was the one fined bc I shouldn't have been on the road. It was the other lady's fault completely and I was charged bc I was on the road when I wasn;t supposed to be. I assumed my ex was covered, etc. I assumed wrong. It's no excuse and I felt bad about it - it'll never happen again. I'll never drive unless insured ever again.

Side note: I wouldn't even let my son get his permit bc his grades weren't good. He thought I was playing - he learned the hard way. Now he just turned 17 and I refused to give him a car for his birthday. He was supposed to get mine & I was buying a new car. Not happening now. He needs to earn it himself. He's learning a tough lesson but it'll be worth it in the long run.

Yup, Jersey is the highest & that's where I resided all my life until a few years ago.  I felt badly too but necessity dictated it temporarily at the time, never happened again & I wouldnt recommend it by any means but it sure does not reflect who I am as a person in total or lumps me in a percentage of society who doesnt give a dang what their actions or behavior causes others.

Isn't Hailey still missing????? And yet,her father is being arrested on outstanding warrants??
Is Clint a flight risk?? I think not....Why now is he being arrested??me thinks that the LE can better spend their time looking for this man's child....call me crazy...Why aren't SA and BD being looked at harder by LE????

Ok, I am so confused.......I thought this was time due on fines from ealier arrest and not new ones, could be wrong though.........also I don't think he was arrested yesterday or the day before I think this might stem from the MJ they found when they searched his place when the FBI and Rangers were helping LE.

Somehow I do not believe that driving without a license ... driving without insurance would be justified for ANY reason by anybody on this forum if he/she or a loved one had been struck and seriously injured by a vehicle driven by Clint Dunn ... Clint Dunn whose lack of finances implies no compensation.

I can just imagine how the character of Clint would be perceived and ... I would be one with that perception.

Janet

I do not comprehend when any parent puts substance abuse before their children, nor have I defended Clint for those choices.  As far as driving, I stated my case & those that feel differently about that particular situation are entitled to their opinion but in order to pay a bill one has to earn the money to do so, that is what I did & it was rectified...had I willingly disregarded that expense & had no desire to remedy the situation that would have been an entirely different story.  Would it have been horrific had I gotten in an accident, of course it would have been & it racked my nerves to their core until I got the situation resolved.   You can say NEVER but if its a matter of being solely responsible for putting food on the table, earning a buck & paying the rent, sometimes less than ideal temporary decisions have to be made when other options are not available to dance around it...unless of course one is willing to just sit back and say "well, I cant do that so I guess I just have to sit here and wait to be evicted, lose my job & let my kids starve."

It is appearing that Clint turned himself in to answer to his motor vehicle & marijuana charges & he's gotten off his bum which is more than I can say for Billie, again it doesnt justify his past & it certainly wont bring Hailey back.   Would Billie be surviving now if she didnt live in the house Clint paid for minus a reported 3 payments & having to pay rent, sure doesnt look like it now does it?   I have always contended that regardless of Clint's existence, what transpired from Billie's home is more on Billie than it is Clint.  If Clint was squeaky clean & financially sound would it have made a difference in him getting custody automatically?  The answer to that is, no.   Its not that easy or simple to remove custody from a biological mother.  Billie would have had to be deemed unfit and/or putting Hailey in danger by the court & we all know how difficult that is to get a judge to take that severe of a step unless the evidence is overwhelming & well documented, often all too late.   Usually, other measures are taken in baby steps to see if a parent will get their act together & not strip them of physical custody.   Clint may have managed to get a judge to order Billie to remove Shawn from that home, I actually fault him for not pursuing that considering his daughter was exposed to his violence & that home is in his name but then again Im not entirely sure Clint is of the intellect to realize he could have forced that to transpire legally.    Hey, if it was me just based on the several 911 calls of arguments & threats of life would be sufficient for me if I were a judge, but that is not what takes place more often than not & too many times I have had direct opportunity to express to a judge that children were harmed or killed because more severe action wasnt taken sooner.  Heartbreaking, yes.   Morally correct, no....the vicious cycle continues.

I think it would be horrible if someone I loved was hit by someone without a license and I'd be furious, but I do have uninsured motorist and I have to fess up that as a single mom that had to get to work 20+ yrs ago, NOT driving wasn't an option PERIOD as I couldn't have afforded to lose my job and then not be able to feed or house my child, so where there lapses in my insurance, yes there were......did I want to be so broke that I had to let things get that way, absolutely not, but I kept working as I'd have dug a further hole for me and the baby if I lost my job, I also had no family in th area and there were no buses, a cab would have been over 50 bucks so that too was out of the question, sometimes we do what we have to do, not that I don't wish it was different ...but is it the worst thing that I could have done, not by a long shot and wrt lack of finances, sometimes we are just at our limit. I know I have been and I have worked all my life, but there have been times that came along and destroyed everything (divorce and custody battle) and I can remember trying to go thru the washing machine and dryer looking for quarters to put gas in the car Shocked how much money I would find sometimes.

I look at this differently, I think, than most. I don;t think it's as though the cops went looking for Clint bc they had a warrant out on him. I think there's a huge search going to happen this weekend, with some pretty respected people running it, and Clint wants to be part of it, part of that search. Since the search is mainly focussing on Scurry County, and since there's a warrant out for Clint in tha county, he decided to turn himself in. If he had gone to the search for his daughter without turning himself in, the le reps there would have no choice but to arrest him based on those warrants - it's their job, their duty to do this. If they ignore it, knowing he has a warrant out, and work side by side with him in that search then they'd be putting their badge on the line.

I personally believe, no matter what bad things Clint has done or may even do in his future, one thing he did right was help to create Hailey. Another thing he did right was turning himself in based on that warrant for his arrest. IMO, he manned up.

Good job, Clint.

I know what you're saying, Janet, and from another perspective - being uninsured and had to pay for a wrecked car when I wasn't even the one at fault for the accident itself...but in the eyes of the law, I shouldn't have been behind the wheel of a car that had lapsed insurance, so I was found at fault and had to pay damages.

I'm personally not making light of Clint's situation and past mistakes, as it's only too obvious to see his irresponsibilities...but he's still doing more than Billie. Billie refuses to even acknowledge she & Shawn purchased illegal narcotics with that $140 withdrawn from the ATM in Snyder. She's an absolute idiot. Maybe she should own up to her irresponsibilities like Clint has done & is doing, then maybe people will cut her some slack too.

Of course I don't think that'll happen...bc afterall, if the neighbor that island just posted about is right like she usually is, she has another druggie skank in her house today. What a loser she is. Total waste.

further to my quoted post, the reason i'm wondering if this cat was busted for meth is bc some of those derivatives are used in the making of meth and/or heroin, x, etc. just a few pills would be classified there, not as many as you think. i'm leaning towards a lab job. no idea, only thinking...

If I as a non-swimmer was on the beach and observed a child drowning ... am I absolved of morally responsibility for not assisting if there is a life jacket within my reach?  Of course not!

However ... if I don that life jacket ... rush into the waves and ... the child drowns nevertheless ... I cannot be held morally responsible if my efforts where in vain.

Clint was aware of the unsafe environment across the field that Hailey was residing in.  However ... he was not in a position to seek custody of the little girl who wanted to live with him.

Clint needed to first clean up his lifestyle to prevent his criminal record from becoming longer.  He had to acquire employment to provide financially for his family.  Then he had to avail himself to all the resources that had the ability to make custody of Hailey happen.

However ... Clint chose to lie on the beach and do nothing.  Maybe his hope was that Hailey could somehow save herself in those waves.  Maybe his hope was that somebody else would don the life jacket.

It didn't happen.

When I considered both arrests ... the revealed Youtube video of Clint and Brian getting high together crossed my mind also.

Janet

But, they're not even in the same county, weren't together, and this is on an old warrant for driving.

Hailey Dunn's Father Arrested on Outstanding Warrant
Posted: Feb 17, 2011 8:04 AM PST

SNYDER - Missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn's father, Clint Dunn, has been arrested on an outstanding warrant.

The Scurry County Jail tells NewsWest9 that the 33-year-old was arrested Tuesday for an expired driver's license and backing without safety.

Dunn is still in jail at this time.

Hailey Dunn's father turns himself in

.

Clint Dunn, the father of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn, who has been missing since Dec. 28, was jailed in Scurry County after turning himself in on three charges.

Clint Dunn, 33, told the Reporter-News that he planned to go “sit out a few days in jail,” so he could be credited for some fines associated with probation violation and several warrants.

Dunn turned himself in at the Scurry County Jail on Feb. 15 for a county court commitment. According to jail officials the current charges include a probation violation for possession of marijuana, expired drivers license and unsafe backing.

The charges are not associated in any way with his daughter’s case, who has been missing for almost two months.

“He is getting out in the morning,” said his girlfriend Naomi Stewart. “He thought it would be a good place to be alone and think.”

Officials at the Scurry County Jail would not confirm when Clint Dunn was to be released, but said he was “almost finished” serving his time.

Incidentally, I'm sure that's why - that and to get it out of the way before the search starts in Scurry.  DWL is $100 - 500 first offense, failure to appear (if that's the third charge) is $500, and I'm not sure how much backing unsafely would be but I know that I don't have $1500 sitting around and I have a lot more means than he does.  He has time on his hands and a need to get his proverbial horse biscuits together and think about his life, and so jail seems logical.  He's no more guilty if he sits in jail than if he pays the fine; it's all the same, so why not do it for free if it's just 2-3 days.

I see it that way, and two people have said that's what happened, and the police didn't deny it.  I really don't see what the big deal is.  It is a known fact that he has a driving without license and backing charges.  LIkely the third charge is for not appearing in court.  Two people have confirmed the voluntary turn in, one has confirmed the driving.

I don't understand why this is so hard for people to grasp, really, on most of the boards.

And when I say this - I mean I don't see why people are scrabbling around looking for an answer when the answer keeps being repeated over and over again.  I do indeed see what the big deal is with anyone having a warrant, much less a dad having one.  So we'll not go down that road; it's already done. lol
