Please note that nobody should get any ideas. I think there's a high fence now and it's closed to the public to keep the science behind the findings secure. It's not a fast process, the decomposition...it's slow and meticulously calulated. Every single piece of data, no matter how minute, is accounted for. The only people with access to the site now are the drs & students involved in the study. It smells...bad. I used Vick's Vapor Rub under my nose and ate peanuts for months...couldn't stomache meat at all. Once you smell decomposition, you'll never in your life forget it or successfully be able to compare it to anything else - except for another rotting corpse.

I can't imagine that anyone would "Get any ideas" about going there.  Actually, when I go to UT Hospital I go on Blount Avenue to Cherokee Trail.  I must have passed it.  I think I'll go a different route in the future.

Of course I don't know any of these people.  I would have no occasion to know them.  But I do know that Oak Ridge labs are world respected for their work, as well as having scientists from all over the world there.  I don't think two pipsqueaks like Baez and Mason are going to even understand this testimony, much less refute it.  They are so far in over their heads that they have no understanding of how outclassed they are.

Also, I was really impressed with the police officers in court in their suits and ties, looking very professional.  Contrast that with George and his lavender shirt and Lee in whatever it was he was wearing.  Goth?  The Anthonys have no pride in themselves.  How could they?

Also the work LE has done on this case is outstanding.  They really left no stone unturned.

Yeah, and jeans...jeans... I would have never had the guts to wear jeans in a court of law. Isn;t it disrespectful or something? I mean, I thought with something of this caliber, professional attire would be a must. I'm not knocking what anybody would wear to court, but Casey is in jail and they are trying to save her life, right? So why disrespect the judge by wearing jeans for crying out loud? Or is that the norm nowadays?

I love the le, mmmm Yuri

Hope you guys are right about Mason, though.
Just wanted to comment on court room attire. I served on a GJ and also had jury duty and 90% of the jury pool had on jeans and tees. This pool was made up of farmers(in liberties) and working stiffs that would leave court and head to jobs. No comment (except to thank people for participating) was ever made about attire.

when we were at Casey's hearing, most everyone was dressed ok..
but others that were going into court rooms not so much..saw tank tops, pants on the ground, and even a strapless dress...Judge Judy would make that girl put on a sweater..
also, when we were going through the security line, I was next and put my purse on the conveyor belt and next thing I know, this girl had completely butted in line right in front of me..the security gal said to her, you can't just butt in front of somebody, you need to go back in line..and she made her go back to the end....people really have no respect for others anymore...

4-Donks, thank you. I've only been in court once in my life. I went from work, so I was dressed professionally. I didn't see anyone in jeans. I literally had no idea. So, maybe it's just the lawyers and experts that need to dress professional? I just read a comment that people even wear tank tops in the courtroom? Really?

http://www.justiceforall.com/jurors-in-criminal-trials-can-ask-questions-as-part-of-new-controversial-rules/

Jurors in criminal trials can ask questions as part of new, controversial rules
Defense attorneys do not like this at all.    Monkey Devil!

 ::snipping2::

“It is not the juror’s role to ‘solve the case.’ It is not the juror’s role to develop facts. It is the juror’s role to draw inferences and reach conclusions from facts developed by those whose role it is to develop facts.”

 ::snipping2::

Actually that is a completely wrong statement - it is the jurors role to decide the law and facts. And it should not matter who gets to the facts as long as they get there - if either side has something to hide the jurors should be able to get to the truth.

Absolutely right, Bearlythere.  That's why jurors are referred to as  the "Tryers of fact."
It seems to me that in recent years defense lawyers have switched from truth to any defense they can dream up, lies, imagination, whatever they can get away with--and it seems they can get away with anything.  The truth no longer has a place in defending a client, no matter what they've done.  A lawyer can be disbarred for suborning perjury, using a witness whom they know to be lying.  It that were enforced today, I don't think there would be many defense lawyers practicing law and quite a few in the slammer.

Re: courtroom attire

The courtroom is a very conservative place. Business attire is what is appropriate. But as we all know, many people don't even know what business attire is. I personally think Lee was dressed inappropriately for court. Showed disrespect for the judge and the proceedings.

I grabbed this:
Although jeans have become a little bit more acceptable in certain courtrooms, they are very strongly discouraged, and some judges will be offended by them. The bottom line is, the way the judge sees it, if you don’t care enough about your appearance to try and make a good impression on the person who decides the fate of your finances, children’s custody, and many other personal issues, then there is an unstated assumption that you must not care about very much.

I have served on a jury and everybody in the courtroom was dressed appropriately.  To me it's just a matter of respect for the court as well as self-respect.   In fact I was in Chancery Court myself a couple of weeks ago to be appointed as conservator for my sister-in-law who has Alzheimer's.  Everyone was dressed appropriately there, too.  Of course it was rather cold.  Maybe in hotter climates people dress more informally.

I would love for a juror to ask beotchface, so what were you doing for 31 days?  Wonder what the procedure is for questions.  Can a juror simply raise his/her hand to ask a qeustion or do they have to go through a note to judge, judge take it up with both sides, then might get an answer scenario.

<<<<<snipped

There is a reason Mason joined Casey's defense team. He was against her in the beginning. Several people jumped onto Casey's bandwagon. I think it's bc
the Prosecution was going after murder 1 instead of looking at it from an accidental death perspective. Iow, not an open mind...I just hope it doesn't come back to hurt the case in the long run. Everything Casey did after the fact makes her appear sooo guilty of something much harsher than an accidental death. I've said since the beginning it's gonna come down to the science, I still feel that way.

When I read that the QC guy is 95% sure about the tape samples coming from the same batch, I am reminded of the % of shared dna found in LA in regards to OJ's trial. It's what not only saved his life, it kept him out of jail altogether for Nicole & Ron's murders. He is guilty for those murders, but the jurors didn't know the science behind all the studies. It helped to acquit him. I hope the same injustice doesn't play out in this case.

It scares me.

None of it scares me & this is NOTHING like the OJ case. They stacked the jury with black OJ admirers and they are not going to get a jury of young adult baby murderers.

People are much smarter than most give them credit for when they sit on a jury. I have been on a jury where the most uneducated there was the most intelligent in the ways of the world which helped convict a criminal.

I find this case very interesting because of the forensic evidence & trust me on this, none of it will be proved incorrect. If I were bozo, I would be BEGGING for some type of deal before court. He was too stupid to do it when it should have been done, and now the state may not even consider it. Him & Mason are not going to do anything but cost the state a LOT of money and then lose, so the smart thing to do would be BEG for a deal quickly. The longer it goes on, the less likely the state is to make a deal. The only reason they would deal would be to save the taxpayers the expense of the trial.

Gosh Turbo, I hope you're right. Also, I wasn't downplaying jurors' intelligence, don't want anyone to think that. It's just that most people space out when talking about plant life, microorganisms, dna, genetics, alleles, larvae and the different types, their life span in stages, etc. Ie: when most people think of maggots or flies on meat, they think of a hamburger thrown into the trash on a hot day. Those same people may not think that there's truly a difference with certain flies that only feed off of cadaver. Those same people will tend to think it could have been the pizza box if the pizza had pepperoni or sausage on it, and they would be wrong in that way of thinking.

When I compared this to the OJ trial, it's not to compare the crime or the jury pool - it was to compare the science & the methods behind the science.

I have a feeling the air test that showed chloroform in the trunk will be deemed inadmissable bc it's a new test not used by anyone else.

Again, this case is interesting to me not just bc of the dynamics surrounding Caylee's death - which the most important part of this all is CAYLEE - but bc it's case law in the making. We are witnessing history. It sucks the circumstances, and surely Casey should be sentenced, but the whole process is still interesting nonetheless.

Oh my gosh, you must be listening to the defense and believing that nonsense they are putting out. The test on the trunk air has been used since the 60s. It is used even by the military. They are grasping at straws on that one. The only thing ORNL has been doing is refining it.

BTW - there is NO WAY blow flies will go to pizza whether it has meat in it or not. (which the one in her trunk had NOTHING IN THE BOX. ORNL even tried growing ANY flies in the box. It just didn't happen. I am sure it will be explained well by the prosecution the difference between blow flies and other insects. Anyone who has read any of Dr. Bass' (Body Farm) best seller books knows what the difference is.

 ::snipping2::

Just to reiterate - I believe Casey is guilty guilty guilty. I do believe she will serve a long lengthy sentence. It doesn't change the fact that I still worry, though, bc even though Cheney gets on our nerves - he's an incredible lawyer. He knows his stuff. We might not think so but his track record speaks for itself. I don't want Casey walking...as a matter of fact, not at all.

Maybe if insects were trained to locate cadavers instead of using cadaver dogs, the corpses would be found sooner, rather than later, making it easier on the coroner to obtain the facts involved in the death of that cadaver before certain data is lost in the elements...just sayin'...

I am not familiar with Jar all that much, but from what I have seen so far, I am so not impressed.  His last defendent got death row, didn't he?  He bumbles around, using bluster and inuendo.  He sure does not show me he knows his stuff.  Maybe it is cause he has nothing to work with, who knows, but he looks like a fool.

I messed up. I didn't mean to say "not". It should read as this: I was stating that it's definitely not fact - that certain flies won't go near sausage or pepperoni, I wasn't making a suggestion that it could happen, no as I learned better in college.

Hello Monkies,
I think that Italian flies will definitely go near pepperoni.

Personally I don't think jurors will even care about the air contents of Casey's trunk. IMO When they hear about the masking tape holding on the mandible and the hair and that Casey never actually reported her missing as well as the odor in the car,  that will be enough.  The rest, the tattoo, the tape, the rest of it will not stay with them.  What will stay with them, IMO, is seeing the video of Caylee singing "You are my Sunshine," and playing peek-a-boo with the tablecloth, and then seeing the photos of what remained of Caylee after six months in a swamp where Casey threw her. And all the time watching Casey smirk and preen.  It is enough to break your heart.  And it will break theirs.

Turbo, is that body farm near UT Hospital?  I once heard it was somewhere behind it.  It isn't near the vet school, is it?  I've been going there quite a bit recently.

I agree. If I were a juror i would be watching the defendant.  I would look at all the facts that make sense to me.  31 days is all I would need and her fugly mug primping all the time, doing facial contortions and her activities around the 31 missing days.  The larvae and other stuff is just background stuff to me.  It would mean nothing.

Turbo, I think I may have not been clear in what I was trying to get across to you. I know the difference in larvae, I've studied this myself. I am not an expert but I studied in college - my goal was to ultimately work for the WHO. I went on a lab tour many many years ago after The Body Farm was first starting to form. It was set up originally to identify how long a body has been deceased and to investigate exactly how that body came to cease...ie murder, disease, natural causes. I have studied decomposition on many venues. The insects (blow flies, beetles, their offspring / larvae) are tested in all of their various stages. Only certain insects are drawn to cadavers. I know this. I know the difference, I learned about it almost 20 years ago. The whole field of Forensic Entomology has always interested me, but it's not my forte as my dream was to have a career in infectious disease. I come from a family that has multiple le throughout. I think this is why I always question everything - wish I could stop! What I was saying is that some jurors may not know this stuff about entomology. They might listen to the forensic doctors speak, hear them testify, but no matter how much you explain some things to people, they will still have their own minds to make up and choose not to believe it. They may think the pizza crap is believable. I was stating that it's definitely not fact - that certain flies won't go near sausage or pepperoni, I wasn't making a suggestion that it could happen, no as I learned better in college. Again, I'm no expert, as I've chosen to stay home with my children for a decade now, but my mind is still scientific bc surgery & disease interests me...most especially the science behind it all starting with anthropology.

The reason I brought up the suggestion that the air test that measured chloroform could be thrown out or deemed inadmissable isn't bc the test is new, it's just that it's a new way the test was performed. In other words, according to what the test is famous for, it's used to trace certain gas or elements. It wasn't made to effectively tell how much of the chloroform was in the trunk. The links that I supplied show what I'm talking about. It's for this reason that I question how the judge will rule in this one motion. Here's the links again which are the reason for the Frye hearing, the first one is the one I'm really referencing with regards to the test:
http://www.wesh.com/pdf/27106293/detail.html
http://www.wesh.com/pdf/27106306/detail.html

From what you have said, I got the following, the people at the Body Farm were able to get these things across to you.

From what I have observed so far, the prosecution is able to get their points across to us here at SM.

So, don't worry about the jury being able to get the information presented to them.

Can I introduce you to my friend?

It is directly behind the hospital. You can't get there from turning in the hospital entrance though. You have to take the Cherokee Trail along side of the hospital (where the pond is) then turn left into the employee's parking lot. The morgue is under the hospital there and if you look to your right up on the hill that is the Body Farm. There is a fenced area with a shed as you turn up the hill on the left.

This is how I KNOW Cindy & George smelled decomp in the trunk, bc it's 100% unmistakable, it's distinct. Once they realized the repurcussions of the trouble Casey may be in, they hurried & backtracked to try to say it was pizza or rotting garbage, etc. It's bc right off the bat they began trying to save her life. I think they forgot that this is the same daughter that lied for a couple years as to where she was working, who was watching Caylee, who Caylee's father is, what Casey was doing during the days & nights without Caylee, the same daughter that stole off of her grandparents, stole off her bf Amy, stole Cindy's credit card & used up money in a checking a/c, the same biotch daughter that was such a liar & thief that she had to steal gas from her parent's shed in order to gas up her car & lied that her gas gauge was broken when in fact it was tested & worked fine - my gosh the list goes on.

It's my belief that if you make excuses for a lying kid, it justifies their lying habit, which in turn will mold them into an adult liar...instead it should be nipped in the bud as a child so they learn their lesson by being held accountable.

While working at a hospital in Respiratory Care, we had a patient on the regular floor whose family did not want her taken off the respirator.  She had started to decompose, at least around the ears that you could see.  When I walked into the room I could hardly draw a breath, it was that bad.  There is no garbage that smells like decomp.  The garbage might smell bad enough to make you want to cover your face and filter the air that comes in, but decomp takes your breath away to the point you don't want to take another breath.  You want to run from the room if you are caught unaware.  There is nothing like it, if you smelled it once, it stamps itself on your brain.  I cannot imagine the smell of that trunk, the woman I had as a patient was mostly intact and there was air circulating through her room,

I am so sorry Caylee, I am so so sorry Caylee, that the people who claim to love you the most have failed you the most.  In death, you have many that love you and will not let your short life be for nothing.  It is my hope that children will be saved, somewhere, as a result of your untimely death.  Your footprints, although tiny in size are deep in the impact they have made on people's hearts and lives.  Rest in the arms of the Lord, our sweet adopted one.

when we were at Casey's hearing, most everyone was dressed ok..
but others that were going into court rooms not so much..saw tank tops, pants on the ground, and even a strapless dress...Judge Judy would make that girl put on a sweater..
also, when we were going through the security line, I was next and put my purse on the conveyor belt and next thing I know, this girl had completely butted in line right in front of me..the security gal said to her, you can't just butt in front of somebody, you need to go back in line..and she made her go back to the end....people really have no respect for others anymore...

Was it Cindy??

lol...no...

Well put Bearly! What an impact those little feet made! RIP Sweet Caylee! Justice is coming baby!

Something happened recently that I found interesting. My hubby and I were standing in line at the grocery store. We both were talking about the hearing and about George and Cindy... how they suck at being grandparents. What they're doing is so disrespectful to  Caylee! A lady near us asked, with disgust, "Are ya'll talking about the parents of that casey girl?" Yep...the parents of that Casey girl. How do you like that George and Cindy?! Not referred to as "grandparents of sweet Caylee." You're both "Parents of that casey girl." An insulting thing to be called all due to your disgusting actions. I guess that's some sort of little justice for grandparents that won't even sit on that darlin baby's side of the courtroom...small justice as it is, to have branded yourself with it. You both earned the title well. Parents of a monster. And you're proud of it too. Wow!

When my husband found out that the A's most likely read here, he wanted to know if I'd type up a note for George. Hope ya'll don't mind...

To George Anthony... my husband suggests, and I agree with the suggestion, that you go to your wife's undie drawer, find your cojones, and put them back where they belong! Stop all the disgusting lying and conniving, and support your granddaughter's cause from here on out! And come hell or high water, stick with Caylee! You won't be alone! She has an army on her side! You can love kc, (no one is asking or expecting you not to) but to want to see her get away with murdering your granddaughter???, to help with that???, trying to blame someone innocent instead????, AND bad mouth those who put their lives on the line every day protecting and serving the community as you have the good people of OCSO... you are such a freaky version of Jekyll and Hyde! You've forgotten about that sweet little baby girl that called you JoJo! You started out doing what you know you should have... getting to the truth and you knew who had it! At first you acted the way any grandparent would in the horrific situation. But it's apparent that early on, you let cindy snip off your acorns! Go get em' back or grow a new pair! Remember how much that little girl depended on you and still does! Be HONEST! Sit on her side of the courtroom for once, and while you're there, how about apologizing to those who helped find all her little bones and are seeking justice for her? Maybe cindy would hate you for it, but you'd have the respect of Caylee's army! You won't be alone! We would gladly back you up no matter what cindy should throw at you for changing to the side you both should be on! Then you would have earned to be referred to as Caylee's grandpa. A title you should have always valued and never let anything or anyone even dare try to tarnish! Nothing is worth throwing away the respect and honor of a beautiful baby girl who was taken out of this world by someone she trusted. Nothing!

The man inside those purple shirts you wear should have much much more devotion to his granddaughter!!
