Casey Anthony defense wants hair evidence out; expert raises questions about dogs

Casey Anthony's defense team argued this morning that certain hair evidence should be excluded from her first-degree murder trial and this afternoon her attorneys are raising questions about cadaver dogs used in the investigation.

Anthony, 25, who is in the courtroom this afternoon, is accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie Anthony in the summer of 2008.

Caylee Anthony's remains were found in woods near her family's east Orange County home in December of that year, but the prosecution's theory places the body initially in the trunk of her mother's Pontiac Sunfire, where a key hair was found.

A canine search of Casey Anthony's Pontiac on July 17, 2008 was discussed this afternoon in court.

Gerardo Bloise, a crime-scene investigator with Orange County Sheriff's Office, says the K-9 smelled around Casey Anthony's car that day but sat down near the rear bumper after sniffing the trunk.

ORLANDO, Fla. --A series of evidence hearings began Wednesday in the Casey Anthony case.

The focus of the hearing Wednesday morning was on a piece of hair found in the trunk of Anthony's car. The defense wants the hair kept out of her trial.

The FBI expert who studied a hair strand taken from the trunk of Casey Anthony’s car explained via teleconference that the hair had postmortem banding at the root, which is considered a sign it came from a decomposing body.

"The characteristics in this hair were consistent with postmortem root banding, which I reported as consistent with decomposition,” FBI evidence expert Karen Lowe said.

I really hope he means, "it is what it is" this time.  Byeazz had deadlines, he can't be trying to get in 5000 pages for a hearing underway.  That is crazy.  I will be so disappointed if the judge doesn't smack him down this time.  I would love to slap that smirk of his face.......ugh beyond smarmy.

I think what he is going to imply is because Dr.Voss has applied for patents for this equipment that his testimony is tainted.
