Police: Missing boy could be kidnapping victim

Police and the FBI are searching for a 12-year-old boy they believe may have been abducted Friday from his adoptive family in Colorado Springs.

Marcus Herrero went missing after boarding a bus from South Murray Boulevard to the Boys and Girls Club in the 1400 block of South Chelton Road, police said.

A teacher and others saw him on the bus, but he never checked in at the Boys and Girls Club, authorities said. Police said they wanted to exhaust other leads before asking for the public's help finding the boy.

"There was a concern public attention may have made it even more difficult to locate him," police said in an unsigned news release.

Marcus is only 12 years old and needs to be found asap, regardless of whether he may have run away or not.

Herrero has run away from his adoptive home on two other occasions in late 2010 and early 2011, but police said each time he was found nearby within 24 hours.
Police said they don't know if Herrero has run away again or if he was possibly kidnapped.

FBI agents are questioning neighbors.

The Colorado Springs Police Department called neighbors within a half-mile of the Boys and Girls Club Wednesday with this message:

ITA!!  I have this flashback of when Kayleah Wilson went missing here in Greeley, Colorado and there was little conern because they thought she had run away...  Poor thing.  I certainly hope that Marcus HAS simply run away and will be returned home safely.

Adopted Boy Missing For Seven Days

http://www.kktv.com/home/headlines/Adopted_Boy_Missing_For_Six_Days_118105329.html

::snipping2::Police say a GeoCast (ANC) has been sent to everyone within a 1.5 radius of 1400 South Chelton Road.
Atlas Preparatory School Principal Zach McComsey, where Marcus went to school, says they're a small and tight-knit community and they're very concerned about Marcus. McComsey says he himself drove around the city for five hours over the weekend looking for Marcus.

On Monday, the school printed off copies of the family's flier about Marcus' disappearance and sent them home in sealed envelopes to the parents. McComsey says it's a delicate situation because many of their students are very young and they do not want to alarm or scare the other students.

Neighbors describe Marcus a good kid, who keeps to himself. One neighbor told 11 News, "I really am concerned. I just want him to come home."

 ::snipping2::

I'm assuming this means 1.5 mile radius?  That's it???????
I just don't get the lack of urgency here.  I hope LE is looking for security cameras in the area of the club.

There have been no other media reports since the initial release about Marcus.  According to the first posted article here, his biological mother had recently been released from prison and Marcus had been in touch with her recently.  I don't doubt that he is likely with her...but what if he isn't????  AND even if he IS with her...she was just released from PRISON!  I also feel he is likely with her as the bio-mom has not come forward to voice concern for her missing son.

I'm sure there is a logical reason why his bio-mom did NOT have custody of Marcus.  I hope he is safe wherever he is and whomever he is with.  His adoptive parents must worry so much for him.  I'm suprised THEY aren't being more vocal about this...
