Big Spring body remains: Media told by law enforcement, ''We have no idea who it is'
Posted March 21, 2012 at 8:36 a.m., updated March 21, 2012 at 12:03 p.m.

BIG SPRING — At a quickly assembled media conference in a hangar at the McMahon Wrinkle Airpark, Sgt. Tony Everett of the Big Spring Police Department gave no new information on the investigation of human remains found Tuesday southeast of the airpark.

"We have no idea who it is," Everett said during the six-minute briefing. Asked point-blank if the remains were of missing Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn, Everett said law enforcement "could not speculate" on identification.

Report: Gated Area Where Remains Found Never Searched by Investigators

 ::snipping2::

It is being reported that American Limestone did not keep their gates locked, often leaving them open.

It is believed that since the area was gated, investigators never searched it after Dunn's disappearance.

Also, the Texas Department of Public Safety website shows that other than Hailey Dunn, in the last 10 years there have been no missing persons under the age of 18 in Mitchell County or eight surrounding counties.

Thank you Northern Rose for the update.
It is unfortunate, but I do/did not believe Hailey would be found alive.
Now for the justice part if this is her.

Big Spring body remains: Hailey Dunn search organizer says missing teen's mother 'needs an answer'Posted March 21, 2012 at 8:36 a.m., updated March 21, 2012 at 12:21 p.m.

 ::snipping2::
After the media event, Midland resident Holly Jenkins was seen near the site of the remains. Jenkins has been a leader in Hope for Hailey, a group dedicated to locating the teenager - alive or deceased.
 ::snipping2::
When asked about proximity of remains to the Big Spring home of the mother of Shawn Adkins, identified by law enforcement as a person of interest in the case, Jenkins said, “It’s frightening. Obviously, with him being the only known suspect in this location, it scares me.

"I hope it’s not her, but if it is, I’m glad she finally has been found.”

Jenkins said she had spoken by phone with Billie Jean Dunn, mother of the missing teenager, Wednesday morning.

“She feels sick. she feels scared and she needs an answer. She’s demanding answer," said Jenkins, who would not say if Billie Jean Dunn was on her way to Big Spring. The mother was last reported to be living in Travis County.

Remains Described As 'Partially Mummified Skeleton'

BIG SPRING, Texas -- The remains found in Big Spring were described late Wednesday morning as a “partially mummified skeleton” that was partially buried in a grassy area.

This information came in an 11:30 a.m. news conference held by Sgt. Tony Everett, the public information officer of Big Spring Police Department.

Everett spoke to several media reporters in Big Spring near the scene where remains were discovered Tuesday.

He refused to describe the size of the skeletal remains, and he refused all questions concerning whether the case is related to the disappearance of Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn.

He also refused to state whether any additional artifacts were found at the scene, such as clothing or other items.

However, Everett called the area a crime scene.

Reporters asked so many questions concerning the Hailey Dunn case that Everett appeared to become irritated at times.

 ::snipping2::

Concerning the property where the remains were found, Everett said the area was previously owned by a limestone company and that a lot of poured concrete is on the site. However, the remains were discovered in a dirt and grassy area.

The property at that time did not have a fence around it, as it does now, and Everett said the area would have been open to access by any number of people.

KTXS News has also learned that two Colorado City police officers are at the scene assisting in the investigation.

 ::snipping2::
According to Lt. Bob Bullock, spokesperson for the Texas Rangers, the search for evidence — which involved the demolition of a cement slab using a back hoe — was part of an active missing person case.

“Because this is an active investigation, I can’t tell you any more than that,” said Bullock.

The 1008 Northwest Second Street residence being searched is owned by Priscilla Juarez, according to the Howard County Tax Office.

The Texas Rangers have not yet released whether evidence in the missing person case has been recovered.

According to family members of the missing man, Bobby Marquez Jr., they are hoping the search will help bring closure for a matter that has troubled their hearts for many years.

“We’ve known what happened to Bobby for many years. It was simply a matter of getting the search warrant, which law enforcement was unable to do until recently,” said Raul Marquez, the uncle of the suspected victim. “They told us that someone came forward in November and collaborated the story they already had, making it possible to get the warrant.”

As law enforcement officials tore a part of a cement slab away, excavating the earth beneath, Marquez said his nephew’s death was a result of dealings in illegal activities.“All of the evidence we’ve gathered over the years pointed to this, but there just hasn’t been enough to get a search warrant,” said Marquez. “We’re just hoping to get some closure out of this. The family has hurt for so long over this, and we’re just hoping to recover the body and get some closure.”

According to law enforcement officials at the scene, no remains were found during the search Tuesday. Excavation was expected to resume today

Sources say body found in Big Spring is likely Hailey Dunn
Posted: Mar 20, 2012 5:19 PM PDT

<snipped>

BIG SPRING, TX (KCBD) - A mummified and partially exposed human skeleton found near the Big Spring airport is believed to be missing 13-year-old Colorado City girl Hailey Dunn. Hailey was reported missing in December 2010.

Sources close to the investigation say the hair color and height of the remains match Hailey's description. We're told evidence found at the scene could link it to Hailey as well.

Desert Tanks employee Heath Acrey says his employees found the remains around 2:30 Tuesday afternoon on the 2500 block of Apron Drive. Workers placed a fuel tank over the remains to preserve the body until the scene was secured. The area is mainly concrete, dirt and grass.

BIG SPRING — Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs arrived at 9:45 a.m. at the site of body remains southeast of McMahon Wrinkle Airpark.

Howard County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Quail Dobbs had just left the scene, where remains were found Tuesday.

Interest is high because Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn was reported missing in late December 2010 and has not been found. Big Spring is about 40 miles west of Colorado City.

Colorado City Police Chief Roy Owens earlier had said no one from his department was at the scene, where various law enforcement agencies have been investigating this morning.

"No, I don’t have anyone over there," Owens said. "Until they discover that there’s any connection and until we know what the gender is, and all the details, we’re not going to head out over there. We want to stay out of their way by all means."

Owens said he has not been in contact with any of Dunn’s family members as of 9:20 a.m., but said he was going to return a call to her great aunt, who left a message at his office.

"I don’t have any contact information for the mother, or anyone else," he said. "We may be able to contact Haliey’s dad, Clint (Dunn). ... But I don’t know if he still lives here."

The more I think about this statement from the new Sherriff the angrier I get.  He seriously has no contact information for the only named suspect in the case?  He seriously has no contact information for the child porn and bestiality images found on computers and memory sticks in both Billy's house and Shawn Adkins Mother's house when so far NO ONE has been charged?  Is this man for real?

Big Spring Police Say They Don't Know If Body Is Hailey Dunn 03/21/12

Big Spring investigators said at a news conference today they have no way of knowing whether remains found yesterday are those of missing teenager, Hailey Dunn. Workers discovered a body at the McMahon-Wrinkle Airport around three yesterday afternoon. A special FBI investigative team from Dallas is conducting an investigation.
Big Spring policeman Tony Everett said at a news conference "we have no way of knowing if this body is Hailey Dunn. We are just trying to investigate the finding of a body and identify who it is."

this is hard to comprehend,the body laid in a bag for Xamount of time,so now cover it,
and it must have taken a forklift to cover ,as the cover had to be moved again with a
forklift,whatever evidence was there is prob crushed

Those employees told NewsWest 9 that it did appear that the body had been there for some time. Employees also tell NewsWest 9 they used a lid from one of their tanks to keep the remains safe from the weather in the area

Investigators have been busy marking the crime scene with yellow flags and crime tape. This morning a large oil tank lid that was covering the crime scene was removed using a fork lift.

Report: Gated Area Where Remains Found Never Searched by Investigators

The remains were located one mile from the home of Shawn's mother ... the home that  Shawn unexpectly drove to on the morning of the day that Hailey was reported missing.  What are the chances that remains are not those of this precious young lady whose own mother put her at risk.

Hailey Dunn affidavit highlights: Inconsistencies, strange ‘hobbies'

<snipped>

Adkins volunteered to be subjected to a polygraph exam on three separate occasions. The first two attempts, he terminated the exam, walking out and refusing to cooperate. On the third try, he submitted to two stages of the test, the first indicating that he was being deceptive regarding knowing Hailey Dunn's whereabouts.

The second section contained questions asking where Hailey could be found. Adkins made a positive indication that she was in Scurry County.

When the third phase of the polygraph test began — with the intention of refining Hailey Dunn's location in Scurry County — Adkins refused to complete the test, walking out of the Colorado City Police Department.

<snipped>

Shawn Adkins told investigators that he was fired from his job at WSI in Snyder on Dec. 27 after an altercation with his supervisor. But investigators were told that Adkins was a good employee and hadn't been fired from the business.

According to the affidavits, Adkins had not had any altercations with supervisors, arriving to work at 6 a.m.

According to the records, he "went into the break room and purchased a Dr Pepper out of the vending machine, looked at the supervisor without saying a word, and then left the premises at 6:10 a.m."

<snipped>

Adkins told investigators that he left WSI and went straight to his mother's home in Big Spring, but telephone records indicate otherwise. It was determined that he initially returned to Colorado City instead.

<snipped>

Adkins apparently deleted contact information on his cell phone in front of an investigator who had asked to look at it again to verify calls he had made. The investigator asked Adkins what happened to the list. Adkins was "unable to give an answer."

<snipped>

Nothing was noted to be missing from Hailey Dunn's room, including an MP3 player, toothbrush, contact solution, jacket and other personal items that those who knew her said she would not have left home without.

Billie Dunn Tells Caller: 'I Feel Sick; I Just Feel Sick'

BIG SPRING, Texas -- A woman who spoke with Billie Jean Dunn, Hailey Dunn’s mother, described the mother as stunned by the news of human remains found in Big Spring – just a mile from where Shawn Adkins drove on the morning that Hailey Dunn disappeared.

Holly Jenkins, of Midland, told KTXS News that she spoke with Billie Dunn at 1 a.m. Wednesday.

She quoted Billie Dunn as saying: “I feel sick; I just feel sick.”

Jenkins, a volunteer who helped search for Hailey Dunn last year, said that investigators have notified Billie Dunn and been talking to her since the skeletal remains were found Tuesday.

Authorities have not confirmed the identity of anyone concerning the remains, and officials said identification could take up to a week.

Jenkins said Billie Dunn told her that Billie still hopes that Hailey will be found alive. But, Billie told her, that if this is Hailey, then she wants justice to be done. Jenkins said Billie wants whoever did this to come forward and make things easier.

Found a block away from the BF's home?

Putting on my thinking cap..but I seem to recall that the area was searched and searched.

In a trash bag...most people wouldn't open a trash bag to check it out unless a search team came across it.  Of course, the body could have been hid somewhere else and moved to that area after "searchs" were thought to be over.
