Tenn. Woman May Have Been Abducted in Home Invasion

Published April 14, 2011

PARSONS, Tenn. -- A 20-year-old nursing student who was last seen being dragged from her house by a man dressed in camouflage might have been abducted in a home invasion Wednesday, authorities said.

Holly Bobo's 25-year-old brother told investigators that he saw the man dragging his sister across the carport at her family home in the community of Darden in Decatur County and toward a wooded area, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said. Its violent crime response team was gathering evidence.

Tennessee Nursing Student Dragged into Woods by Camouflaged Abductor

April 14, 2011

Almost 400 volunteers are searching the dense West Tennessee woodlands looking for a 20-year-old nursing student last seen being dragged by a man dressed in camouflage into the woods near her home, investigators said.
olly Bobo was dragged "across the carport of her home… toward a wooded area" in the town of Parsons on Wednesday, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Both Bobo's mother and 25-year-old brother watched the woman being abducted and called 911.

Mayer would not say if family members tried to intervene or if they were suspected in the abduction.

 ::snipping2::
Investigators initially believe the young woman may have been abducted from her house in a home invasion, but John Mayer, spokesman for the TBI told ABCNews.com that "the suspect was never inside."

Police won't comment on what else family members told them or what evidence may have been left behind.

"The investigation is ongoing," said Mayer.

Between 300 and 400 people are involved in today's search, Mayer said.

Investigators are using sniffing dogs and a helicopter to comb the rural area around Bobo's home, about 100 miles north of Memphis.

Calls to Bobo's family were not returned.

Thursday's crime log
Search ongoing for woman seen abducted from home
April 14, 2011

 ::snipping2::
Authorities said the 911 center received two phone calls when Holly Bobo, 20, was abducted Wednesday morning. One was from her 25-year-old brother, who was in the home, and the other was from a woman police did not identify.

The search area was widened Thursday and covers rugged terrain with trees and brush so thick that at least one search dog had to be carried by its handler on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
 ::snipping2::
Investigators say the brother is helping with the investigation, and they are looking into the possibility that someone may have checked out her home before the abduction. Police are asking neighbors to report any unusual people or cars in the area.

Holly Bobo Abduction: $25,000 Reward Offered
April 14, 2011

Parsons, TN - Sheriff Roy Wyatt announced during a news conference on Thursday, April 14th that a $25,000 reward is now being offered for information that would return 20 year old Holly Lynn Bobo  safely home.
 ::snipping2::
The Decatur County Sheriff also revealed that investigators found blood in the carport of their home at 681 Swan Johnson Road.
 ::snipping2::
A TBI spokesman said the possible abductor is a man between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds and not her boyfriend.

Dana Bobo, Holly's father, said today that, "The way it looks to me, myself, it might of been somebody close." Stating that it might be someone that knew the families routine.

Law enforcement officials have also reported that the Bobo family has been cooperative as the investigation and search continues.

I am totally confused by the brother witnessing it and not trying to stop it? Maybe he did and they aren't telling anyone, but it sounds odd IMO. Also, I know this area very well-had a house on the TN river which is about 6 miles away, very brushy and thick area and when I'd go with my BF to the house for the weekend, unless there were several of us there we took a gun Also the proximity to the river bothers me, it's got so many little hidden coves and is murky.....well, generally just a vast area to search. God be with her family and bring her home

What an unfortunate situation.

From all accounts it is pretty obvious that this was not a crime of opportunity, but one that was planned. The abductor knew Holly or at least knew her routine. One has to wonder just how long she was being stalked. In all that time no one noticed any thing suspicious.

The search continues ... that area of TN is so rural and wooded. If some one was familiar with the area and terrain they would have a great advantage. Although with no one having found anything, a vehicle had to have been close by.

No, Red it looks like it was rather planned out.

Ive been thinking about this all afternoon & since the boyfriend is reportedly being cleared I'm thinking that the campus should put out an alert because it could have been someone stalking her from school.   I'm not sure at this point that any suspicion should be on her own brother, maybe what has been reported is true that he thought she was with her known boyfriend & he couldnt get to her fast enough when he realized it wasnt, we'll have to see what unfolds.   I'm very concerned that they already reported that there was blood found on the carport.

I've really got a funny feeling about this one.  Has anyone heard WHY the brother and mother didn't attempt to stop the attack?  Are they disabled?  It just isn't making sense to me.

Bad weather to affect search for missing TN woman
By The Associated Press
Friday, April 15, 2011 at 5:04 a.m.

PARSONS, Tenn. — A sheriff says bad weather moving through western Tennessee will affect the search for a woman who was last seen being dragged away by a man in camouflage.

Speaking Friday on NBC's "Today" show, Decatur County Sheriff Roy Wyatt said there are forecasts of hail, wind and possibly tornadoes in the area. He said searchers would wait and see how that will affect efforts to find 20-year-old Holly Bobo.
