DR. DREW
Beth Holloway: The Casey, Joran Lies
Aired June 23, 2011 - 21:00:00

<snipped?

PINSKY: You believe that Van Der Sloot and Casey Anthony have similar modus operandi. Tell us about that.

BETH HOLLOWAY: I do.

PINSKY: Before I get too emotional.

HOLLOWAY: Thank you, Dr. Drew. I do. Of course, both of them had the litany of lies -- you know, here, from both of them. Something that I think is even more so striking is this mode of operation from the two. From Joran come started out the same way. Oh, I left her at the beach. She`s fine. No involvement. She`s alive, OK? Casey started out the same way, left her with the nanny, she`s fine.

Then as things began to get a little warmer and more uncomfortable, then he changed it to, well, it was an accident, something tragic happened, but, you know, it was an accident. Same thing kind of with Casey. Well, it was an accident. Now, they`ve changed them from an alive Natalee and Caylee to a deceased Natalee and Caylee.

They also told police that they dropped  Holloway at her Holiday Inn at about 2 a.m. and last saw her being approached by a man in a security guard uniform before they drove off, Kock said.  The three young men said Holloway stumbled in the parking lot of the hotel but refused help from her Dutch escort, Kock said.  Holiday Inn employees say security cameras did not record Holloway's return.

Melissa England, who now lives in Boston, had dated Casey Anthony's friend. England said that over the Fourth of July weekend in 2008, she and her boyfriend went to a club and met Anthony there.

"She was very friendly, outgoing, she introduced herself to me immediately," England said.

She spent time with Anthony over that weekend, including one point at which Anthony was talking on the phone. When Anthony hung up, she said, "Oh my God, I am such a good liar," England testified.

DR. DREW
Aired July 14, 2011 - 21:00   ET

<snipped>

PINSKY: Depravity, Beth. Do you see similarities? We`re going to try to discuss this in the context of Casey Anthony. Do you see similarities between Joran and Casey?

HOLLOWAY: Of course, I do, Dr. Drew. And when you have a parent who has a child that suddenly goes missing and every behavior they display is completely abnormal from what you would see in a parent who is truly searching for the truth and to find their missing loved one. I mean, you cannot help but see that, to me, Casey was doing everything to divert any attention from herself and to place the blame on others. They always, you know, push outside the circle of themselves for the blame.

<snipped>

HOLLOWAY: What I`ve seen with Joran is, even though, they don`t feel as if they`re being held accountable or responsible for their actions, they tend to always go into a downward spiral. And when I think of Casey, I cannot help see some similarities between Casey and Joran, and that, they`re starving for attention.

And if we`re talking about taking a young woman and losing her identity, I mean, what will become of her? I mean, she has no other identity but who she is and the actions that she`s committed in her name. And I think of Joran, he couldn`t have stood to have lost his identity and not have the attention.

<snipped>

HOLLOWAY: Oh, absolutely. And you can see that Casey had already actually disconnected herself from Caylee because she implicated the nanny, and so, placing somebody else who is the last person known she`d be seeing with her daughter alive. So, I feel she had already, as I said, disconnected herself from her daughter, at that point.

<snipped>

HOLLOWAY: Well, I mean, when you think about it, I mean, every tragic event brings about the need for education and change. And it`s unfortunate that a mother could go 31 days without letting anyone know that her daughter was missing. But I mean, it happens time and time again. A horrific event brings about the need for education or change, and that is exactly what is coming out of Caylee`s murder.

Joran Van Der Sloot: 21 Reasons He's Guilty, From Peruvian Detective
Posted on Jul 15, 2011 @ 06:30AM

By Amber Goodhand - Radar Reporter

While Joran Van der Sloot awaits his fate in Lima’s run-down Castro Castro prison, Peruvian homicide detective Captain Juan Callan has 21 reasons he believes the Dutchman killed and robbed Stephany Flores.

In the new investigative book, Portrait of a Monster: Joran Van der Sloot, a Murder in Peru, and the Natalee Holloway Mystery, obtained by RadarOnline.com, authors Lisa Pulitzer and Cole Thompson collected nearly 400 pages of Callan’s master file on Joran.

Callan has been a member of the Peruvian National Police Force for two decades, worked the Flores crime scene and interrogated Joran.

Does Peru have any laws to charge Joran not only for pre-meditated murder and robbery but also for torturing a victim?

Joran van der Sloot --The Inside Scoop on this alleged crazed killer!!
2pm PT/5pm ET/10pm UK time Listen Live

JULY 9th -- Portrait of a Monster!

Cole Thompson joins us with the inside scoop on alleged killer Joran van der Sloot.

 ::snipping2::

(At the top link...on the right hand side you can listen to Cole Thompson's interview on the radio about the book.  It's a little over an hour long...and they get off on other subjects as well.)

A few things from the interview:

Joran told the cab drivers in Chile that his father owned a concrete company and he was on his way to Santiago to meet a girlfriend.

Cole Thompson says that Stephany's father believes that his daughter being murdered on May 30th (is no coincidence)...he believes there are at least three others victims out there somewhere.

Joran had known Stephany for about two weeks after they were introduced by Elton Garcia.

Joran's phone number was in Stephany's cell phone.

Joran and Stephany had gambled together at least a couple times before.

He talks about the similarities between Joran and Casey Anthony.

(The host insinuates that George is responsible since he's the only one who would know how to cover a crime)

After a few minutes about the Casey Anthony trial...finally back to Joran!

According to Cole Thompson:
From the psychological report...Had a lot of stuff that you would expect...that he devalues the feminine figure; psychologist kept saying over and over again...he's always had problems with women; women turn up dead or disappear around him...

Joran's first sexual experience (as he describes) was at 14...with other boys and then he graduated to women.

Cole Thompson says he wonders if he's got something he's hiding that's eating away at him.

Host says...Let's go with that!  First of all...you don't graduate from boys to women, there is no ceremony!

Monkey Devil!

You're on one team or the other and every once in a while you jump back but you don't put on a cap and gown.

Cole Thompson says this was so unexpected because all he'd ever heard was what a womanizer Joran was and how he liked to brag about his sexual exploits with women.

Host:  Well that's the first guy that was gay!  (I'm guessing he meant the first "sign" he's gay?)

Cole Thompson:  If you're bi polar and you're harboring this secret, you're a ticking time bomb I would think.

Cole Thompson:  One of the things we learned, we had access to the lead detective in the case down in Peru, and one of the things we learned is this was not a blitz attack.  She was not killed immediately, her neck was not broken as has been reported.  She had massive internal injuries, was bleeding mainly out of her face...out of her nose that was broken.  They were all survivable injuries, and she was lying in the floor in agony...and he took a shower, cleaned up...he realized she was still alive because she kept making noises...so he grabbed a shirt just like it was instinctual and smothered her with it.  It's the same shirt he has on in the video where they're walking into the hotel.  It almost felt like a signature.

Cole Thompson's theory about why Stephany went up to Joran's room is that he'd probably borrowed money from her that night.  And he probably told her he didn't walk around with a lot of money (being a tourist and all) but had it in his room, that's why she didn't look too pleased about going up to the room.  He thinks that it doesn't make sense to leave a casino and go to a $15 hotel room to play online poker.  He doesn't think he took her there necessarily to kill her, he doesn't think he had a plan; if so maybe to manipulate more money out of her.

But he does believe the murder was premeditated, because he had the cooling off time after beating her...he relaxed took a shower...changed clothes...before he finished her off.

Host wants Cole Thompson to tell one thing from the book that they haven't talked about...a treat from the book:

One of his favorite sequences from the book:

They'd just come back from Chile and Joran is being processed in Lima.  He's handed off to the Homicide 2 division (he believes).

Captain Juan Callan sits Joran down in a chair, he has the handcuffs removed from Joran so he'll be comfortable.  (He's playing "good cop")  Joran stretches, and Callan asked him if he can get him anything...something to eat or drink?  Joran asks for cigarettes...and he gives them to him...he chain smokes two or three.  Callan says to Joran that he understands he's a poker player, a really good one at that.  Joran perks up.  Callan says...I play poker too.  You want to play a game?  Joran nods, he's excited...like he's thinking he's really going to play a game of poker.  Callan opens up his desk drawer and he starts putting down the evidence photos...the surveillance photos...not much of a reaction from Joran.  Then he reaches into another drawer and pulls out an evidence bag and takes out the bloody shirt (which smells foul at this point) and holds it up to Joran...and Joran recoils...and Callan tells him...you're a good player, but I'm a better player.  At that point, that's when the confession picks up.

Before that Joran had been saying that some phony Peruvian police officers had killed Stephany; or maybe even real Peruvian police officers that had killed her.  He said that was the reason the tapes were all doctored and this was one big conspiracy...and he was a victim... (classic Joran imo)

HOMICIDE COP: WHY JORAN VAN DER SLOOT IS GUILTY!

Published on: July 15, 2011

NATALEE HOLLOWAY prime suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT is nailed in new book by top cop who lists the harrowing facts behind his smarmy web of deceit!

AS Van der Sloot awaits his fate in Lima’s run-down Castro Castro prison, Peruvian homicide detective Captain Juan Callan has listed  21 – count ‘em --  reasons he believes the Dutchman killed and robbed Stephany Flores.

In investigative book, Portrait of a Monster: Joran Van der Sloot, a Murder in Peru, and the Natalee Holloway Mystery, obtained by RadarOnline.com, nearly 400 pages of Callan’s master file on Joran are exhibited,

Det. Callan, a member of the Peruvian National Police Force for two decades, not only worked the Flores investigation but interrogated Joran.

According to Callan’s file, he says the grim murder was “committed with premeditation, violence, ferocity and cruelty, using physical force to cause her death.”

Google translation:

"Joran has Stephany brutally murdered '

'Battered body points to torture'

In a newly published book, "Portrait of a Monster: Joran van der Sloot" is based on 21 written arguments that Joran van der Sloot premeditated and cruel Stephany Flores killed. The book is based on the police investigation and reveals details about the murder.

It was written by Lisa Pulitzer and Cole Thompson and based on the 'Callan file. These reports Radar Online. Research principal investigator Callan The file is 400 pages long study of Peruvian chief of homicide detective Juan Callan. He is convinced that Joran is guilty of robbing and murder of Stephany Flores. The Callan file can be read that Joran in the presence of his lawyer and a translator known that he Stephany robbed of her money, identity card, bank cards, credit card and her car before she suffocated. Tortured Stephany her body was so mutilated that it can be assumed that Joran has tortured her to get her passwords to bank cards. According to Callan this shows that Van der Sloot has no respect for human life.

Easton ‘pocket park’ will be dedicated on Saturday
Ceremony for once-vacant lot is Saturday

The dedication ceremony for Povoas Park will take place on Saturday.

EASTON —
On a hot July afternoon, three wooden benches and an old-fashioned drinking fountain beckon walkers along Center Street to stop and rest for awhile.

A once-vacant lot is now Povoas Park, which will be dedicated at 11 a.m. Saturday. It was completed in mid-May with money from the Community Preservation Act and the Povoas family.

Joe Povoas, 55, who grew up on nearby Sheridan Street, wanted to establish the “pocket park” in memory of his parents, Tony and Mary Povoas, and to honor his friend Joe Cronin, who disappeared in 1991 while snorkeling in Aruba.

2) A separate smaller memorial plaque will also be provided and tastefully placed in
memory of a good friend, Joe Cronin, who grew up on Baldwin Street. Joe
nicknamed this spot “The Western Front”. In 1991 Joe died in an accident in
Aruba and his body was never found.  This is the closest his parents will have to a
final memorial to their son.

Joe Cronin was my good friend who grew up around the corner at the end of Baldwin Street. His parents Norm and Sally were life long Easton residents who now live on Cape Cod. In 1991, Joe took a vacation to Aruba with a friend, went snorkeling and never came out of the water. Though there was an investigation by the police and a private investigator sent by his parents, his body was never recovered. The best anyone could come up with was that he was hit by a boat but nothing has ever been confirmed. His parents have even spoken to Natalie Hollaways parents about their shared experience on that island.

GETTING STORIES STRAIGHT

The Natalee Holloway Case

Paulus van der Sloot - Suspect Statement - June 23, 2005

My wife called Freddy again and asked him if he could tell his story again to Joran's lawyer. At first he didn't want to come because he had an exam the very next day but in the end he and his parents came over. He then told the story he knew to Joran's lawyer. I am convinced that Mr. CARLO did this with the best intentions possible

Latest in Search for Natalee Holloway
Aired October 4, 2005 - 20:00:00   ET

GRACE: Beth, that the judge refused to allow anyone to search his house and that Joran Van Der Sloot ultimately quit talking. The day after all of this happened, while you were out combing the island, they called a meeting, a meeting at the pool behind the judge`s house of lawyers, the Kalpoe family, Joran Van Der Sloot, his father, for what?

BETH HOLLOWAY TWITTY: What he was doing was helping the boys get their stories straight, Nancy. He was instructing the boys how to get your story straight. If all stories match, in 10 days you will be free.

GRACE: And what about the hard drive?

BETH HOLLOWAY TWITTY: Well he also told the guys once they got their stories straight to begin e-mailing this and then use your hard drive to nail an alibi.

GRACE: And not to use your cell phone.

BETH HOLLOWAY TWITTY: Cell phones would be bugged.

GRACE: Incredible while you were out walking the beaches looking for Natalee they are devising their defense strategy. Of course they claim they know nothing about the case.

The Caylee Marie Anthony Case

TRANSCRIPT OF TAPED INTERVIEW OF CINDY ANTHONY
CONDUCTED BY DETECTIVE EDWARDS
CASE NUMBER – 08-074777

<snipped>

A ... I said, “Annie you wanna go with me to Staples’, so I figured this is a good opportunity for me to talk to Annie cause I hadn’t had a chance to talk to Annie this whole week.

Q In the whirlwind.

A To find out what was going on. So her and I drove to Staples and um, her and I, when we were talking it made me feel how good it was to talk to her, one of Caysee’s friends to see if she had talked to Caysee, long list I said, “You know what it wouldn’t be a bad idea”, her and I talked about getting people together like Cory and some of Caysee’s other friends to see if we could figure out what Caysee was doing during this time okay. So when I got back to the house after dropping Annie back off at the Public with the flyers. By then Jesse and Lee were back at the house. Jesse was sitting at one end of my table in the dinner room, Lee was at the other and when I came in I said something to Lee and Jesse was there. I said, “You know what”, I said, “Annie and I just had a really great talk, we spent you know the last 45 minutes or so talking”, I said, “I think it’d be helpful if we get all Caysee’s friends together and kind of do a time line over the last you know month to see where here head was at and what’s going on”.  Plus too I knew that um, Shawn Daley’s friend was the one that did Caysee’s tattoo. And Jesse was there, Jesse goes, “Well Mrs. Anthony let me volunteer to be in charge of that time line”. And I says, “Well Jesse”, I said, “A lot of these friends I’m gonna be talking to you don’t know”, I said, “I’d kinda like to talk to her friends first” and then I said, “Certainly you can interject your stuff in the time line”.

Driftwood Restaurant Celebrates its 25th Anniversary

Cuisine     July 11th, 2011

Friends and well-wishers gathered this week at the Driftwood Restaurant to wish the owners, members of the Merryweather family, another successful 25 years!

Francine Merryweather and her son Herbert, his wife Carolina and the restaurant’s staff enjoyed a champagne toast with guests, escorted by the restaurant’s famous seafood hors d’hoeuvres, in honor of the special day.

Spreading the good news even further, during the month of July, the Driftwood restaurant is offering locals and visitors added value worth a celebration on its own, in the form of 25% discount, off dinner.

Twenty-five years ago, on July 4th, the Driftwood Restaurant unceremoniously opened its door on Klipstraat 12, in Oranjestad.

Herby used to go fishing every day, recalls Francine, and his catch was always much in-demand among friends. Finally Francine, or was it Herby, who came up with the idea of opening a quaint fisherman’s restaurant at the heart of town, on a quiet street, in a typically colonial former residence.

The décor idea came to the Merryweathers in a flash. Driftwood, of course. Herby encountered large quantities of it bobbing in the waves while on his fishing safaris and he started to bring the weathered, well-travelled wood home, to store for future use.

When the restaurant idea was hatched Herby recruited all fish-loving friends to collect more washed in wood on the North Shore, and deliver their loot as building material for interior decor, which he inter-wove with mirrored glass, shells, fish nets, and retired maritime bric a brac.

Francine recalls just 8 tables, and a hand-written menu, which she designed including the logo. The tablecloths were hand-sewn at home, and the atmosphere distinctly cozy and intimate, which restaurant patrons, both locals and visitors found irresistibly charming.
While the restaurant expanded over the years, a few things never changed including the quality of the daily fresh catch, swimming in the sea in the morning and starring on plates by dinner time, and the Aruban-style congenial hospitality.
