OTHERS MIGHT LEARN

Loving Natalee
A Mother's Testament of Hope and Faith
By Beth Holloway

Page 200
:  My child.  My beautiful daughter.  I can't save her.  It's too late.  Natalee is gone. And second to the great tragedy of losing her is if we fail to learn from what has happened.

I could be any parent in the world.  And no parent should ever go through this experience.  Natalee could be anyone's daughter.  And in these thoughts a new path is made clear.  There is something I can do.  Many people reached out to us, and I can now reach back to them.  It might be too late to save Natalee, but it's not too late to save others.  And it's time now to make good on my pledge to stand before high-school and college students, law enforcement professinals, victims' rights groups, travelers of all ages, and anyone interested in personal safety to share Natalee's story and our hard lessons, so that others might learn from them.

Another US woman missing in Aruba
Aug 9, 2011 11:02 PM EST

ARUBA (WIAT) -- There's another missing person's mystery in Aruba as a woman disappears while vacationing.  Now, her travel companion is being held by police.

His attorney issued a statement to the Associated Press saying his client is being held unjustly in the disappearance of a 35-year-old woman.

Gary Giordano reportedly told Aruban police that Robyn Gardner disappeared while the two were snorkeling.  His attorneys said that Giordano was told he was not a suspect and didn't have to stay in Aruba; however, police detained him at the airport before he could board a flight.

Holly Bobo Family Opens Up On OpenLine
Posted: Aug 09, 2011 7:43 PM PDT
Updated: Aug 09, 2011 8:16 PM PDT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - It will soon be four months since anyone has seen Holly Bobo alive. Her family is desperate to keep her case, and her face, out there in the public.

"I'm just doing what any loving parent would do and that is pleading and begging for anyone to come in and help," said Karen Bobo, Holly Bobo's mother.

<snipped>

Karen Bobo said she heard from the mother of Natalie Holloway just this past Sunday; she also spoke recently with the once missing Elizabeth Smart and her father, who also offered encouragement.

"Her father, of course, his advice was as what we're trying to do, keep her name out there," Karen recalled.

Murder (killed her as a result of robbery)
As long as he gets life imprisonment, I don't care.

NANCY GRACE

Another American Woman Disappears in Aruba

Aired August 9, 2011 - 20:00:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

NANCY GRACE, HOST: Bombshell tonight. Another American girl goes missing, Aruba. After Aruban police refuse to make a case against judge`s son Joran Van Der Sloot in the disappearance of Alabama girl Natalee Holloway, Maryland tourist Robyn Gardner disappears without a trace from the very same resort town as Natalee Holloway.

Tonight, where is American tourist Robyn Gardner?

 ::snipping2::

GRACE: Let`s go straight to Aruba. Joining us tonight, the CEO of "Aruba Herald." It is Mark Benson Denz. Thank you very much for being with us. What are you hearing from Aruban authorities about the missing American girl?

MARK BENSON DENZ, CEO, ARUBA HERALD (via telephone): Good evening, Nancy, and to your other guests. Well, we have spoken a few minutes ago with the prosecutors here in Aruba. And as you said, there`s not much new information that they are willing to disclose at this time. What we do know is that they have put together a special task force of the police headed by one of the chief of the policemen and are working day and night to find a solution to see exactly what has happened to Robyn.

 ::snipping2::

GRACE: Back to Mark Benson Denz joining us, the CEO from "The Aruba Herald." I`m just very curious if -- has any evidence seized? Do we know anything about what police are actually doing to find the girl? What -- are they searching right now? What are they doing to find Robyn?

DENZ: Correct. Well, immediately after Robyn was reported missing that Tuesday afternoon at around 6:00 o`clock, we know that the Dutch coast guard together with the local search and rescue organization and the local police, as well as on land and also in sea, started to search. But after about 11:00 o`clock at night, it was very dark, so it didn`t make any sense to really continue the search.

And the next morning at 6:00 o`clock, they continued to do the search. Even the minister of justice was present to make sure that everything possible was being done in order to search for this person that has been reported missing.

GRACE: Well, Mark -- Mark, are they still searching for her? Or have they called off the search?

DENZ: No, there are still search going on, specifically more from the water, on the water side.

 ::snipping2::

GRACE: That`s a good point, Michael. Back to Mark Benson Denz with "The Aruba Herald." Mark, again, thank you for joining us -- Mark joining us tonight from Aruba. Mark, have police been able to narrow down that they were, in fact, actually snorkeling? Have they been able to determine where they rented their snorkel gear from?

DENZ: OK, I have to explain something. They were seen, it has been confirmed -- there are people that have testified that they have seen these two people together at the Baby Beach. But Baby Beach is not the exact area. It`s close by. It`s about six to seven minutes walk from the area where they actually went to snorkel, which is behind 90 (ph) Nanki Concrete (ph) Country Club.

And it`s a bit of an abandoned place. There are a company that rents out gear for snorkeling and also diving. We have not received the information from the police if they have rented snorkeling gear because snorkeling gear is actually pretty easy to just buy at a store and just use. So we do not have that information.

But the Baby Beach, where a lot of people traffic with their children and go to the beach, is a very populated area, and there they have confirmed to see them together. But we did not receive information -- the police did not want to release information if they have seen them actually snorkeling at the 90 Nanki Concrete Beach Club area, where the mister (ph) who has been detained is saying that they were snorkeling.

I read today about Aruba's latest disappearance.  I guess Beth still has a lot to do to educate people about the dangers of this island.  It never ceases to amaze me that people still go there and think it cannot happen to them.  I do pray they find this woman soon and she is o.k.

Anything yet on the Kalpoe's lawsuit?

Hi Blue Moon!  I missed your post earlier.  Nothing new on the Kalpoe's lawsuit that I know of.  But I haven't really checked, hopefully Klaas and others are watching .

Nothing really new.  There is some "Motion to Compel" on both sides going back and forth and when I see something that looks like it might be worth while I'll get and post it.  The documents are costly and often a waste of time so I try and be careful.  The trial is still set for October and there is a Motion to Compel hearing in September.  I believe the Kalpoes are still trying to get some info out of the Kay Skeeters estate.

Woman goes missing in Caribbean, acquaintance detained

Gary Vincent Giordano of Gaithersburg, 50, was arrested in Aruba in connection with the disappearance of Robyn Gardner, 35, according to the Natalee Holloway Research Center in Washington, D.C., who received the information from Gardner’s boyfriend, Richard Forester. Aruba police would not confirm the name of the person arrested, but would only say his initials are G.V.G. and that he was headed to the United States before his arrest.

<snipped>

Gardner was last seen Aug. 2 at the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino in Oranjestad, Aruba. She was having lunch at the time, Angela said. Giordano alerted authorities that Gardner was missing that day after they went snorkeling, according to the Aruba Herald.

According to the Herald, Giordano told police they had gone snorkeling Aug. 2. The pair swam for some time before Giordano decided to return, not noticing that Gardner was not with him.

<snipped>

According to the Natalee Holloway Foundation, Gardner is 5 feet 5 inches tall and 120 pounds, with blonde hair and brown eyes. She has tattoos on her left arm from the back of her shoulder to her elbow, her rib cage and her right bicep.

Holloway Resource Center helps in Aruba missing woman case
August 10, 2011

<snipped>

In Frederick, Maryland  Gardner's boyfriend of two years, Richard Forester, said he just wants her back. The two fought but made up before she left for the trip, Forester claimed.

Forester contacted the Natalee Holloway Resource Center in Washington, D.C., which helped spread news of Gardner's disappearance. The center was founded by Natalee's mother Beth and provides assistance to the families of missing people.

Callan has been a member of the Peruvian National Police Force for two decades, worked the Flores crime scene and interrogated Joran.
According to Callan’s file

21 Reasons Jor an Van der Sloot Is Guilty

1. Before leaving the Atlantic City Casino with Stephany, Van der Sloot observed
Flores exchange poker chips for cash, which made robbery an attractive crime.
2. Van der Sloot admitted in the presence of a public ministry representative, his
defense lawyer, and translator of having robbed Flores of 850 soles, her national
ID, credit cards, bank card, as well as her Jeep on May 30. When Flores resisted
the attack, Van der Sloot physically assaulted her, before he asphyxiated her,
thus causing her death.
3. Stephany’s empty purse was found at the scene of the crime missing her
money, bank cards and ID, which Van der Sloot admitted to having stolen.
4. The cruelty exhibited by Van der Sloot as evidenced by the lesions on the
different parts of her body, leaving open the possibility that inside Room 309 Van
der Sloot may have tortured Stephany in an attempt to obtain the passwords to
the victim’s credit and bank cards in order to access the money in her accounts,
showing no appreciation for human life.
5. The way in which Van der Sloot attempted to lighten his penal responsibility in
this crime by saying that he committed the murder in self-defense, claiming
Stephany initially struck him on the head. This is hardly credible given that
Stephany sustained severe injuries to the head, face, and neck.
6. The autopsy report established that Stephany’s body, in an advanced state of
decomposition — presented signs of cranial, encephalic, and cervical trauma; the
cause of death being a blunt instrument, namely, Joran’s fists.
7. The time of death coincides with the time when the victim was seen alive for
the last time entering Van der Sloot’s hotel room. A fact corroborated by security
videos captured inside the Hotel Tac between 5:30 A.M. and 8:13 A.M. on May
30, 2010.
8. Van der Sloot employed physical force, which resulted in concussions to the
head, traumatic lesions to the face, cranial fractures, and sub-cranial
hemorrhaging in order to subdue his victim. He then strangled her with both
hands and lastly asphyxiated her, as was corroborated in the autopsy report.
9. Footage from the security cameras of the Atlantic City Casino show that
Stephany Flores arrived at the casino on May 30 at 2:54 A.M. driving her black
Jeep and was captured again on video at 5:15 A.M. leaving the casino in the
company of Joran.
10. Through a photo lineup Hotel Tac employees Beidy Salazar Santillan,
Reynaldo Cruz, and Adeli Marchena recognized the Dutchman as the guest who
on May 30 at 5:20 A.M. entered Room 309 in the company of Stephany Flores
before driving away alone in the victim’s Jeep that same morning at 8:45 A.M.
11. Upon observing the videos of the security cameras inside the Hotel Tac, one
can see the nervous attitude of the alleged perpetrator entering and exiting Room
309 after committing the crime, presumably attempting to come up with a
possible alibi.
12. Driver John Williams Pisconte, his brother John Oswaldo, and Carlos Euribe
Pretil all identified Van der Sloot as the passenger they had driven to the city of
Arica.
13. The contradictions between Van der Sloot’s confession while in Peruvian
custody and the voluntary deposition given in Chile in which he made up a story
about a robbery perpetrated by two subjects that were inside Room 309 armed
with a knife and a firearm when he entered the room in the company of Stephany
Flores. His first version of events was hardly credible considering that the
employees of the Hotel Tac never observed other persons entering Room 309, a
fact that is backed up by surveillance footage.
14. The attitude and criminal conduct exhibited by the Dutch citizen in having
abandoned the body of Stephany Flores after perpetrating the crime,
demonstrating coldness in his acts, and then fleeing for the Chilean border with
the only purpose of evading justice.
15. The pre-existence of money was established through the Prize Reports and
videos of the Atlantic City showing the victim, Stephany Flores, had won on a
$10,000 bet on May 24, 2010, and on April 30 she also obtained winnings in the
amount of 676 soles. The money was stolen by Van der Sloot, a fact that is
corroborated through records turned over to police by the casino.
16. Video records from the Hotel Tac prove that the striped red shirt Van der
Sloot gave the drivers during his trip from Ica was the same piece of clothing that
he was wearing when he fled the Hotel Tac.
17. The recovery of clothing among which was the striped red shirt, this being the
piece of clothing that he wore after victimizing Stephany Flores before fleeing the
crime scene in her SUV. The shirt was given as partial payment to the cabbies
that transported him to the Chilean border with the objective of fleeing Peru after
committing the crime.
18. The clothing abandoned at the scene of the crime after murdering Stephany
Flores were clearly recognized as belonging to the suspect.
19. Police established that the “modus operandi” of Jarn Andreas Petrus Van der

Sloot was selecting female victims in casinos and through deceit obtaining his
victim’s money, and in this way obtaining easy money.
20. It was scientifically established that fingerprints obtained from Van der Sloot
while in custody in Lima matched prints lifted from Stephany’s Jeep. The prints
corresponded to the pinky and ring fingers of the detainee’s right hand.
21. It was scientifically established that the other fingerprints lifted from the scene
of the crime gathered by homicide technicians, from the edge of the glass
ashtray, nightstand, the central part of the plastic bottle found on the TV table,
and a transparent plastic bottle without a lid, were a match to the middle and ring
finger of Van der Sloot’s right hand, as well as the middle finger of his left hand.

Aruba Tourism Authority on the mysterious death of another American
August 10, 2011

The mysterious disappearance of a 35-year-old American who allegedly was snorkeling with a male American companion on Aruba marks the second time a female U.S. tourist has vanished on the popular Caribbean island in a decade.

The Associated Press reports that Robyn Gardner of Frederick, Md., is missing and that her travel companion, Gary V. Giordano, said she never returned to shore after he signaled for them to go in on Aug. 2. The Aruba prosecutor's office says Giordano (whom they identify only as "GVG") is being detained for questioning

Does this give Aruba another tourist black eye? Many Americans were irate when U.S. teen Natalee Holloway disappeared on a school trip in May 2005 and then allegedly died after apparently going to a lonely beach with local Joran Van der Sloot and his friends after a night of clubbing. Some even boycotted the island, though it is known as being generally peaceful.

The Aruba Tourism Authority said today that as Gardner's disappearance does not appear to be "a tourism situation, we are not commenting." The authority says North American visitation was up 1.48% last year from 2009, and that in July 2011, Aruba reported 50,558 U.S. visitors, up 6.5% over July 2010.

Statement from the Aruban Prosecutor

Aruba Tourism Authority on the mysterious death of another American
August 10, 2011

<snipped>

An Aug. 9 Aruba prosecutor's statement was forwarded to USA TODAY. Here it is:

"On August 2, 2011 at about 6.23 PM (local time) 911 received notification of a possible drowning of a woman. The traveling companion of this woman, a man G.V.G. stated that they were going snorkeling behind Nanki Country Club and that at a given moment he had signaled his friend to swim back to the beach. He stated further that the woman had not reached the beach together with him and apparently had remained in the water.

The American woman in question is R.G, age 35, the man is indicated as G.V.G, age 50, also an American.

In spite of intense searches during a number of days by amongst others the surveillance department and the detective department of the Aruban Police, the Aruban Maritime Police, the Coast Guard, Search and Rescue Divers and volunteer divers of Jads and the use of two helicopters, an airplane and several boats, until now the woman has not been found in sea or on the shore.

The statements made by the traveling companion led to such questions that on Friday, August 5, 2011 it was decided to detain him for further questioning on the possible drowning of the woman."

Could it be that Robyn Gardner's mother put pressure on Aruba to detain Giordano rather than allowing him to return to the States?

Could it be that invaluable advice was afforded that implied there could possibly be issues related to jurisdiction/extradiction if further questioning was required if Giordano left the Island?

He said his client waited until the woman's mother arrived before he decided he should return to the U.S.  Giordano says he was given permission to leave by an official at the U.S. consulate on the nearby island of Curacao, the lawyer said.

Over six years later ... Beth Holloway continues to be Aruba's worst nightmare.  With Natalee Holloway's mother in the background affording advice to the mother of Robyn Gardner ... justice has a chance of prevailing.  Aruba realizes that the world is watching.

Natalee Holloway's Mom Gets Involved

The Natalee Holloway Resource Center, a foundation started after Holloway's disappearance, has been offering help to Gardner's boyfriend, Richard Forester.

"It strikes a chord close to home because that's where my nightmare began, the day I got the call in 2005," Beth Holloway, mother of Natalee, told ABC News. "We want to be a first responder to these families, we want to be there to help them. "

Beth Holloway knows the dread Gardner's family must be feeling and had advice for them.

"I think about just the devastating, unimaginable nightmare ahead," Holloway said. "Being in a foreign destination is the most incomprehensible [situation], the language barriers, the foreign government. All of the documents are in Dutch, it's Dutch law, and there's not a homeland connection during the process."

Holloway encouraged the family to ask Aruba to involve the FBI, she said.

"There's a protocol you have to follow. The FBI doesn't have jurisdiction in foreign places, but the family can send a plea to the government to ask them to invite the FBI to be involved. It's one of the first steps I took early on, because it's comforting to have the victim's homeland law enforcement working on the case," Holloway said.

Holloway said she hopes that Gardner's family will keep up the search efforts for their daughter.

"I'd say continue the search, keep passing out fliers and passing information—tips, sources—onto the law enforcement officials there. I would encourage them to accept all media invitations. There are positive steps to finding the loved one," Holloway said.

Though her own daughter was not found and no one was ever found guilty of killing her, Holloway said she hopes for different outcomes for Gardner's case.

"I hope that she is found safe and sound and comes home, but if she isn't, I hope the perpetrator is brought to justice," she said.

The attorney for a man being held in Aruba for the disappearance at sea of Robyn Gardner claimed today that there is no evidence that his client committed murder.

Maryland court documents show that a Gary Giordano there has a criminal record, including two orders of protection taken out by women that claimed he was violent. One was taken out by his ex-wife during their divorce procedings.

Two women who say they dated Giordano told "Good Morning America" he was terrifying, and another woman said Giordano stalked her.

"He was like following me, stalking me, and it freaked me out," said the woman, who wished to remain anonymous.

Beth Holloway knows the dread Gardner's family must be feeling and had advice for them.

"I think about just the devastating, unimaginable nightmare ahead," Holloway said. "Being in a foreign destination is the most incomprehensible [situation], the language barriers, the foreign government. "I can look back over the past 10 years and there were no steps wasted, and there are no regrets,'' she said. "I did all I knew to do and I think that gives me greater peace now." "I've lived every parent's worst nightmare and I'm the parent that nobody wants to be," she said.

Beth Holloway told CBS News, "You are pretty much at the mercy of the foreign destination's law enforcement to decide when to give you the information, if to give you information. It's very frustrating. It's very frightening."

But more than a week after her disappearance, all the family can do is hope that Robyn Gardner doesn't become the next Natalee Holloway.

Natalee Holloway, from Alabama, disappeared during a high school class trip to the island in 2005. Her remains were never found, and the main person of interest in the case, Joran van der Sloot, is in prison in Peru on charges of killing 21-year-old Stephany Flores last May. Van der Sloot is a Dutch national who lived on Aruba at the time Natalee Holloway disappeared.
