Bin Laden Home Videos May Be Released to Public

WASHINGTON -- Americans are expected to get a glimpse of Usama bin Laden's daily life with the disclosure of home videos that show him strolling around his secret compound, along with propaganda tapes that have never been made public.

The footage shot at the terror leader's hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan, and the propaganda tapes are expected to be released to the news media Saturday, U.S. officials said.

They are among the wealth of information collected during the U.S. raid that killed bin Laden and four others. The information suggests bin Laden played a strong role in planning and directing attacks by Al Qaeda and its affiliates in Yemen and Somalia, two senior officials said.

Source: 2.7 terabytes of data recovered from bin Laden compound

A law enforcement source tells CBS News that 2.7 terabytes of data were recovered from the laptops, computers, hard drives and other storage devices seized from the bin Laden compound. It's unclear whether all of the 2.7 terabytes are original files or if there are multiple copies of files. To put the amount of data recovered in perspective, just one terabyte of data could hold about 2,000 hours of audio or 220 million pages of text.

Video footage of Osama bin Laden shot at the terror leader's hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan, along with propaganda tapes, have been released by the Pentagon.

The home videos were among material seized following the raid by US troops last week in which Bin Laden was shot dead.

The material suggests he played a strong role in planning and directing attacks by al-Qaida and its associates in Yemen and Somalia, two senior US officials said.

It also suggests that Bin Laden was much more involved in directing the terror group's personnel and operations over the past decade than some analysts had previously thought.

One of Bin Laden's wives, Amal Ahmed Abdulfattah, has told Pakistani security officials that he may have lived in the country for more than seven years before his discovery.

She told investigators that Bin Laden had stayed in a nearby village before moving to the garrison town of Abbottabad.

ntelligence officials on Saturday unveiled five different videos of bin Laden that were confiscated from the raid by U.S. forces at his Pakistan compound, which left the al Qaeda leader and four others dead.

Officials say the new videos collected from the site in Abbottabad are a small slice of the haul considered to be the most significant amount of intelligence ever collected from a senior terrorist.

The video and other intelligence show that the slain al Qaeda leader was very much in control over the network's day-to-day operations, according to Pentagon officials briefing reporters.

The intelligence reveals that bin Laden and al Qaeda had a driving interest in taking on the United States and that the leader was involved in the details of plotting attacks.

The U.S. government edited and selected the snippets, and there is no audio to accompany the images. The lack of sound punctuates the chilling imagery and keeps bin Laden's words from being used as, officials say, militant propaganda.

I'm sorry, but I do we think we are entitled to the pictures. We (the people of this country) have endured 10 years of fear, a radical change of security, and BILLIONS of dollars spent combatting terrorism. 9/11 was the root cause of our world wide failed economy. The fact that the radical Muslim world still hates us and don't believe or respect us is plenty reason for me to think we need to PROVE to the world we are not to be trifled with. I don't give a damn if people think we are insensitive. I think we need to install FEAR of the USA in all who thinks we will stand-by and let the world walk all over us.

Do I think I need to see the pictures no not really. Do I want to see the pictures you bet I do. For all the reasons you stated Wreck.  Our country has changed because of OBL and not for the better IMO.  You are right they hate us and whether we see the pictures or not they are going to continue to hate us.  So let We The People get some closer and satisfaction and see the pictures.  Why do we care if it upsets them. I have a cousin who just retired from the Navy..and yes in VA on Wednesday..after 27 years, 4 months and 4 days of service.  He was due his retirement long before this..but he stayed in to see a mission completed..and by God it was.  Exactly what missions for the free world have you completed lately..other then typing at a damn keyboard and whining like a spoiled brat? He did his part..while you sit here and type your frigging butts off he was in daily battles for his life.
