Search For Holly Bobo Continues

BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. - Dozens of volunteers gathered in Benton County to help search for Holly Bobo Saturday and Sunday. She is the nursing students who went missing more than one year ago.

About 30 people searched for 6 hours covering 2 miles of land in Holladay. South East K-9 Search and Rescue organized the search and Jodi Powers Search and Rescue from Kentucky assisted.

Organizers told 7 Eyewitness News, volunteers looked for items that could be found in a young woman's purse.

Search continues today for missing student

A group of about 30 volunteers searched in the Holladay area for missing Decatur County nursing student Holly Bobo on Saturday.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, a man dressed in camouflage led Bobo, who was 20 at the time, into the woods behind her Darden home on April 13, 2011.

The search group, organized by Southeast K9 Search and Rescue, looked for evidence of Bobo on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Anything that would have been Holly’s,” said Southeast K9 Search and Rescue Director of Operations Chris Williams, “any kind of clothing, anything that would be in a purse, school books, anything like that that we could find, anything out of place.”

Though Saturday’s search found no additional evidence, Williams said it was beneficial.

Dana Bobo, father of Holly, said searches have taken place every two weekends on Saturdays and Sundays. Volunteers planned to search from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, as well as on Aug. 25 and Aug. 26.

DECATUR COUNTY- Tenn- This week Holly Bobo's parents are reaching out with new information placed on the back of mailings to aid in their search.

Holly's mother, Karen Bobo said she plans to print thousands of mailings that provide new information, including her daughters routine schedule every week. Holly's mother explained that the time line is of possible stops Holly could have made the morning of her disappearance.

"It talks about her schedule, like where she might be around lunch and to ask people to remember back and see if they saw someone at some of the places she was at," said Karen Bobo.

the family said Holly drove a 2006 black Ford Mustang. A typical day for Holly would have been to leave home around 7:55 a.m. with a lunch break around Noon. Parents said, she could have possibly gone to Sonic, Parsons Dairy Bar, or to her grandmother's home in Parsons in the days leading up to her abduction. Holly's mother said releasing her daughter's schedule could uncover vital information.

Elizabeth Smart, who was abducted from Salt Lake City at age 14 and not found for nine months, is speaking at a public rally on Monday in West Tennessee for Bobo's family.

Smart spoke to about 1,000 friends and relatives of Holly Bobo on Monday night at Scotts Hill High School, in the area where searchers have been looking for the 20-year-old woman since she was abducted 16 months ago. Smart also told those in attendance a story about her kidnapping and how she survived her ordeal.

Bobo's brother said he saw her being led into the woods by a man in hunting gear near the family's rural home in Parsons, about 100 miles northeast of Memphis, in April 2011. Since then, authorities and volunteers have been using search dogs to look for Bobo, hoping that she is still alive.

"It is not impossible for Holly to come home," said Smart, who was joined by her father, Ed Smart, at Bobo's former high school. "Never give up. I was just three miles from my family and I was found. Holly could have the very same ending."

Lois Alexander, of Bloodhound Search and Rescue, said a team of dogs and human searchers have scoured 68 square miles and 57 miles of road in their hunt for Bobo. Investigators have said that whoever took Bobo must have been familiar with the rugged woodlands surrounding the family's home.

The reward fund for information has grown to $250,000.

"We all think somebody is holding her somewhere," said Dana Bobo, Holly's father. "We don't have a clue where."

Some cases will always stick with those who work them, Mehr said.

“They take those cases to heart — you live with those cases, you sleep with those cases always on their minds,” he said. “If you do your job and do it right, you’ve got to have the feelings and the caring to help them make it through the day, too.”

One case Mehr knows he will have a hard time letting go of is that of Holly Bobo. For more than a year, he has worked closely with the Bobo family and local law enforcement to find the missing college student.

“It’s been hard to stop being with the Bobo family as much,” he said. “I’ve been cutting back my time with them. We’ve got agents who are very qualified working with them. It’s something that will always be on my mind every day.”

Mehr said if he thinks of something that will help the case, he’ll call and speak with the agents involved. He won’t completely let go, he said.

“You’re always hoping all your cases would be resolved and that we would’ve found Holly before I retired,” he said. “That has not happened, but I keep the faith that day will come. It’s always constantly on my mind.”

The family of Holly Bobo, a young Tennessee nursing student who disappeared in 2011, is hoping a new tip box at the county fair will help garner new leads.

Local and state law enforcement authorities coordinated a massive search behind Bobo's home. Investigators found items that belonged to her, such as a lunch bag and cell phone, but nothing to suggest where she was taken. Authorities do, however, suspect Bobo's abduction was premeditated.

Williams has been leading searches for Bobo, and plans to hold another this weekend and on Sept. 22 and 23.

"One of the areas we plan to search is in Holladay. I can't really go into why, but we have a real good reason we are searching that area," Williams said.

Community volunteers are welcome to join in the search efforts, but they are asked to preregister at southeastk9sar.org.

Williams said Holly's parents and her brother continue to conduct daily searches for their missing loved one.

Pastor Kevin Bromley at First Baptist Church, who typically speaks to the media on behalf of Bobo's family, did not return calls from The Huffington Post for comment Wednesday. HuffPost has left multiple messages for Bromley since Bobo's disappearance, but they have not been returned.

 The Bobo family has partnered with Elizabeth Smart, the Utah woman who was abducted from her home and held for nine months at the age of 14. Smart's family, like the Bobos, kept media attention on Elizabeth's case until an observant resident recognized their daughter and she was returned home.

"TBI reached out to (the Smart family)," said Bobo. "The first time I spoke with (Elizabeth) was the day of her abductor's sentencing in May 2011. Elizabeth told me what kept her going was the hope that one day she would be reunited with her family. (Elizabeth's father) Ed (Smart)'s advice was to keep the faith and get Holly's picture out in the media. I appreciate everything they are doing to keep Holly on everyone's mind."

Elizabeth, who will travel to West Tennessee to speak in Dyersburg at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center's Healthy Woman 5th Anniversary Event on Thursday, Oct. 25, recently spoke in Holly's hometown.

"She came to Holly's high school," said Bobo. "We are very appreciative. And I appreciate Mr. Smart always taking the time to speak with me whenever I call him. I do sometimes call him for advice when things come up."

PARSONS, Tenn.- It's been a year and a half since nursing student Holly Bobo was last seen by family and friends. Teams have been searching non-stop, but Saturday they got help from a family that understands their situation.
 
The family of Danny Tomlinson joined in the search. Tomlinson disappeared after being swept away by flood waters in May 2010. He was missing for nearly five months before his body was found. During that time more than a thousand volunteers helped in the search. Many of those volunteers joined with the Bobo family for another search for Holly.  ::snipping2::

Several dozen parishioners gathered in pre-dawn darkness in front of their church, awaiting instructions from the pastor, who told them the missing girl’s parents would be there.

“Just so you know, they are convinced that Holly’s still alive,” said Dale Robble, senior pastor at Highland Park Church. “If you meet them, that’s the terminology you should understand.”

Robble and 41 of his Nashville congregation chose to spend what would become a pleasant, sunny Saturday driving two hours to make a macabre search through the woods of West Tennessee for Holly Bobo, the 20-year-old nursing student who disappeared last year.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has said a man dressed in camouflage led Bobo into the woods behind her Decatur County home just before 8 a.m. on April 13, 2011.

In all, more than 150 volunteer searchers, 14 dogs and a handful of law enforcement officers combed areas in and around Darden, Tenn., on Saturday.

(Memphis) The family and friends of missing nursing student Holly Bobo are not giving up hope.
Friday, they will start new campaign called “Bring Holly Home.”
The Bridge Ministry in Nashville will distribute about 10,000 bottles of water across the state.
Each bottle will have Holly’s information on it.

Volunteers gathered in Nashville Friday to launch a brand new campaign: distributing bottles of water displaying Holly's information. The bottles will now be shipped to homeless shelters throughout the mid-state, in hopes one reaches a person who knows something about the 21-year old's disappearance.

"We're not giving up. And we want the kidnapper to know that we're not giving up. We'll keep on doing something every month 'til we have Holly home," said Tammy White, a Bobo family friend.
