Day 1: Casey Brought To Tears, Says No To Plea Deal
http://www.wftv.com/news/27821780/detail.html

She's so stupid.  I hope she gets the DP.

I would hope that as well....but I don't think she will. But she should have taken the plea....I wonder what it was...????
I wonder if any plea deal offerings could come up during the penalty phase?  Would a jury be told that KC had out and out refused 2 offers to plea...I bet she was offered LWOP, but I'm guessing...not much else they can offer her at this point. She's so stupid!

Brad Conway is carefully writing down things about each juror.  Do you think he is acting as a Jury Consultant?

he was hired as a legal analyst for one of the TV stations..sorry  I don't remember which one right now...I am sure that is why he is there

Thanks..  didn't know that.    Will he be able to give unbiased opinions on this case?

no

WFTV news at 5 has Kathi Belich reporting from Clear Water. She reports that the case started off w/a bombshell this morning with discussion of a plea deal, but she would have to admit to every detail of Caylee's murder. So she didn't want a plea.

HOLY MOLEY...it was true!  HOLY MOLEY!!!

Did the defense request the plea or did the State offer the plea without a defense request.?

That wasn't made clear......I'd bet the State offered a deal, perhps to take the DP off...

who offered the plea, defense or prosecution?? this is interesting!

She didn't say who, just that there was a bombshell and that boarding a plane to Clear Water, jury selection and all could have been avoided in a plea deal that was offered to Casey this morning.

I don't believe any duhfense team is in a position to offer a plea deal to their own client, had to come from the state...

What I meant was did the defense request a plea deal from the State and then when it was phrased and offered she turned it down?

Originally the State did not offer her the plea..Baez requested a plea deal from the State..before the GJ in July and August 2008..then when the State offered the plea she did not plea and Baez requested an extension and got one..and she still didn't plea.

So I would not be surprised if Baez requested a plea deal from the State and when Casey saw it she refused.    Usually the defense request a plea deal from the State..usually the State , if they decide to comply, then proposes the plea deal agreement..whicih in most murder cases includes all the things this plea deal did..saying you did the crime and how ..all details on the table.  Casey still believes Mason..she thinks she is waltzing out of the court on his arm..dream on Casey..dream on.

Who else stood up besides Baez?  Was it Ashton?

She probably got a pep talk about her attitude...I also notice when she arrived at the jail this morning her hair was in a bun, then the photo her hair was down....then in morning court it looked like some kind of pony tail...and after lunch the bun is back.  I wonder if Jose told her to put her hair back up during the lunch break and gave her instruction on how to act. It is odd the roll of protector now seems to be CM's and JB seems to have taken on the role of a wanna be attorney

I think there's been a change coming. Mason let the cat out of the bag, or put the icing on the cake if you will, in his last tv interview. He said how Baez would call him for advice, and they'd have extensive conversations, and that he felt sorry for Baez (I can just imagine how Bozo's neck must have jerked hearing that) and so he joined the team. He has basically said Bozo is lost without him.

Bet you are right...bet Jose was pizzed that DM let that outta the bag.

As I thought about this more this afternoon, this could have been why Casey was crying.  I wonder if the defense hinted to the State that it was an accident & tried to get around it this way because they know they are going to lose.   Strategically,  the State offering a plea gives the appearance that Casey is unwilling to admit what happened & what she is responsible for which "might" have been less than a premeditated murder, thus setting up for the felony murder.  It could be any one of a few case scenarios, but I gotta say I was rather positive at this point that the State wouldn't entertain offering one at this juncture.

Curious, very curious what actually prompted this.

If she had accepted a plea she would have to admit to what she had done, yes so in essence a confession.

Because they lost every motion that counts, they didnt get their way way back & now they are revisiting another way.   What is clear is CBJP is not going to have a mistrial or reversal.

Man! KC was certainly doing some exaggerated rump shake when she was walking out. I wonder whom she was trying to impress? The new guards maybe?
