I had to step away for a bit.

Did they finish for the day?  Are we in court tomorrow at 8:30am?

Here, here, Magic!  Well said.  I have never said this before, shame on me, but I love SM and I too, am very grateful to have a place to come to peacefully discuss these cases.  Thank You Red, from the bottom of my heart, for making that possible.

KC seemed to be fine in court today.

I'm wondering if Baez went to see her last night and they "sorta" worked it out?
Several of us think she was sedated today.  Her body language, her eyes, no primping, nothing really.

I thought the same today, and had wondered last night if her theatrics in the courtroom had been in an effort to get some "anti anxiety" medications.

Meds...make sense...such a dramatic change from yesterday to today.

Wait a minute, is the judge going to allow or not allow "death in a can" to be used in court as evidence to be presented to the jury?

If the prosecution is going to try and crack open a can, then they better be prepared with case law and then JP will "consider" it, but is sounds like he's not going to allow it.

It's all in the way they present it.

I believe what he means is there are 4 parts they have to satisfy before he can permit it.  He said he doesn't know if they can do that as he is unaware of any case law to back it up.

Also, they have to present it as to not make they jurors witnesses.

Thanks for the explanation.

I know I'm over-simplifying - but - you show deceased photos - and that's called "evidence" (not making a juror a withness)
so a can with smell in it that is proven to be a carpet sample, etc., from KC's car - why wouldn't that be "evidence", too?

No.  A picture is capturing a moment in time sharing someone's view point.

Sniffing something, to determine what it is, is giving an opinion of something by the sniffer.

While the 2nd to last juror was on, my computer went down.
Was there another one after her?

Day 4: Blaming The Parents, Coaching Casey, The Lady In Red
Jury Selection Crawls Along For Murder Trial

POSTED: 6:44 pm EDT May 12, 2011
UPDATED: 7:38 pm EDT May 12, 2011

 ::snipping2::

Is Casey A Victim?

The biggest revelation of the day came when defense attorney Ann Finnell quietly confirmed what many had suspected -- that the defense will argue Anthony is a long-time victim of abusive parents.

Finnell said that Anthony has a lack of impulse control, a history of sexual abuse, and a mother and father who failed to protect her as a child. She also said Anthony was verbally and emotionally abused, taught to exhibit false appearances, was used as a pawn by George and Cindy Anthony and was a scapegoat for misconduct.

 ::snipping2::

The 'Lady In Red'

Anthony's defense team has a new mitigation specialist. The appearance of Rosalie Bolin at the defense table this week had many avid case followers wondering, "Who's the lady in red?"

Bolin's job will be to dig up information about Anthony's background that could help the defense if Anthony is found guilty.

In court Thursday, Bolin often rubbed Anthony's back, sat with her arm around her, and whispered back and forth during breaks.

According to a 1996 LA Times story, Bolin left her prominent Tampa attorney husband and her kids to marry Oscar Bolin, a convicted murderer. The pair got married over the telephone and they currently visit in a Stake jail about once a month.

Sorry Caylee, the jury took your day away.

« Reply #1329 on: May 12, 2011, 08:02:44 PM »

And they only asked 3 people if she was guilty so far and the break in between was so long that there was plenty of time to recover.
True!  But look at how she has been at every hearing, then compare all of those to her actions today.  Completely different, like night and day, to me. jmoo

She was much less annoying for sure.  If I were medicated, I'd be sleeping on the table in front of me.  I do not do anxiolytics too well.

I wonder why the media is not camped out at the A's house to see if they can weasel a statement out of them about this abuse stuff.

Had to tear myself away and am behind.
Has Judge Perry indicated when he expects this process to be completed, or if they will go back and seek the remainder of the jurors from Orlando?

Thanks.  Then "how" does Ashton turn it his way?  Ashton seemed pretty confident.  Linda brought up the question.  Neither of them are dummies.  However, the Judge is very skeptical.  How does Ashton turn it around?

With regards to this Baez question that he asks about a person not being required to be a part of their own defense or does the defense have to provide a defense.

The obvious answer is ... no, a defendant is not required by law to stake the stand in their own defense. No they do not have to testify not by law does the defense have to provide any data that proves their client's innocence.

However, that being said ... you would have to be foolish, ie Baez, to not present some type of alternate scenario of the crime or if they could prove their client's innocence thru evidence.

The defense is not required, but it looks better to the jury. It also looks better that the defendant is not hiding and refusing to take the witness stand. It would always weigh in the back of one's mind ... why didn't they take the stand and say to the jury ... i did not do it.

ITA RED.  Also didn't the judge earlier today tell Baez  he can't ask a prospective juror a legal question without first stating the law.  Meaning you can't trip up juros on legal questions if you haven't told them the legal answer first..ie it should be yes or no..Tell them the law behind the question and then ask can they follow that law or instruction.
