Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Issued Amber Alert for Four Month Old Zaylee Grace Fryar

http://scaredmonkeys.com/2011/05/11/tennessee-bureau-of-investigation-issued-amber-alert-for-four-month-old-zaylee-grace-fryar/

Quote
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has reissued an AMBER ALERT for missing 4 month old Zaylee Grace Fryar in the Volunteer State. Zaylee Grace Fryar and her mother, 28 year old Shauna Fryar, had been missing since May 1, 2011 from from Millersville in Sumner County, TN. The two were last seen by Fryar’s husband, Michael Fryar, that Sunday.

Just a bizarre case. It was initially put out as an AMBER ALERT endangered child alert thinking that the mom, with a history of drugs, could harm her child. Then reported a body found in the Cumberland River, no one knew it was the mom. Then when she was ID'd, they rereleased the AMBER ALERT looking for the child.

Let's just hope who ever might have harmed the mom, just drops the child off at a church, FD, etc.

Red, they said that her husband was not the father of Zaylee. I wonder if they know who the father is, and could he have the baby?

Missing Infant's Grandmother Speaks Out

 ::snipping2::

From their home in Springfield, Zaylee's grandmother and aunts are holding out hope she's still alive.

"We're praying about it, praying about my grandbaby," said Sandra McMurry.

Her son, Thurman McMurry, is Zaylee's biological father.  He's not a suspect in the case because he's currently behind bars at the Robertson County Jail, serving time on an unrelated assault charge.

On Tuesday, Millersville police visited his jail cell to deliver the bad news, first about Shauna's death, and then about Zaylee's disappearance.

Investigators said one of their biggest questions right now is whether Shauna Fryar died before or after her body hit the waters of the Cumberland River, but they won't know that answer until her autopsy is complete.

No One Ruled Out In Missing Baby Case
Phone Records, Facebook Posts Combed For Clues
Reported By Jonathan Martin

Police spent Thursday interviewing more than a dozen people, hoping to find even a bit of information that may lead to baby Zaylee Grace Fryar. They also started gathering surveillance video from businesses around Millersville, where the baby lived, and Nashville, where Zaylee's mother was found.

"We're hoping somebody just finds her or turns her in or anything, anything that could help," said family friend Emily Schendel.

Dad Speaks About Missing Millersville Child
4-Month-Old Zaylee Grace Fryar Missing; Mom Found Dead

The father of a missing 4-month-old girl is pleading for her safe return.

Zaylee Fryar has been missing for more than a week. Her mother's body was pulled from the Cumberland River over the weekend.

“But I want my daughter here with me. She ain’t got her mother. She needs to be here with her daddy,” said Zaylee's father, Thurman McMurry.

This was supposed to be the day McMurry reunited with his daughter after a month apart, but 4-month-old Zaylee Grace Fryar is missing.

“If anybody has her or knows where's she at, I wish they would at least bring her to me, so she could at least be with her daddy,” said McMurry.

$1,000 reward in case of missing 4-month-old girl
Friday, May 20, 2011 at 11:37am
By James Nix

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is now offering a $1,000 reward for information in the case regarding a mother found dead and her still missing 4-month-old daughter.

Metro police pulled the body of 28-year-old Shauna Fryar from the Cumberland River on May 7, days after her husband first reported her and the infant, Zaylee Grace Fryar, missing. The two went missing from their Millersville, Tenn., home on May 1.

 ::snipping2::

Shauna Fryar’s husband, who is not Zaylee Fryar’s father, reported his wife missing to Millersville police on Thursday, May 5, telling them that when he returned from the store on Sunday, May 1, his wife and the infant were gone. He told police it was not unusual for Shauna Fryar to leave home for a few days at a time.

Investigators said they found the mother’s cell phone, purse and car as well as the baby’s diaper bag at their home on C Smith Road in Sumner County.

Missing baby's mom led trouble-filled life, but girl was her 'everything'
4:23 AM, May. 26, 2011

GREENBRIER — Zaylee Grace Fryar was born five months ago to a mother with a long history of drug addiction and abusive boyfriends.

In Zaylee’s first days of life, her mom was beaten by Zaylee’s biological father, police said.

The mother and daughter were homeless, couch-surfing from her great-grandparents’ house to a motel room to a $135-a-week trailer home in Millersville. Twenty-eight-year-old Shauna Fryar had seven other children, but all had been taken out of her care by the authorities.

 ::snipping2::

“We don’t know if Zaylee is still alive,” said Millersville Police Chief Ronnie Williams. “But we are hoping and praying that she is. We are tracking down every lead, every spotting of the baby.”

It could be another six weeks before medical examiner toxicology reports return to give police any answer as to what caused Shauna’s death.

Baby inspired mom
It was little Zaylee, Michael Fryar said, who gave Shauna the inspiration to improve her life.

“She just hung around with the wrong people,” said Fryar, who was 25 when he met and started dating 15-year-old Shauna. “She was a good person. She really was. Zaylee was everything to her.”

Millersville cold case reopened as murder investigation
Nicole Young, Robertson County Times Published 7:20 p.m. CT Jan. 27, 2015

http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/local/robertson/2015/01/27/millersville-cold-case-reopened-murder-investigation/22437993/?from=new-cookie

A Millersville cold case centered on the death of a 28-year-old woman and the disappearance of her infant daughter has been reclassified as a homicide based on a forensic report that has been in the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s possession for more than three years.

Millersville Police Chief David Hindman said Tuesday that his department didn’t receive the report until two weeks ago. The report focuses on the scene of Shauna Fryar’s death, reportedly in Millersville near her home on C. Smith Street in Sumner County.

Hindman took office as Millersville’s police chief in September. When he began to look through the city’s cold case files about a month ago, he noticed that the Fryar case files were missing, he said.

“The TBI had them,” he said.

When Hindman got the city’s files back two weeks ago, the TBI also sent its case files, which included the report, he said.

“There are some deep questions that need to be answered (as a result of the report),” Hindman said. “We’ve found the pieces of the puzzle. We just have to put the puzzle together now … Why this was not handled four years ago, I don’t know.”

In his emailed statement, DeVine wrote that previous leadership at Millersville Police had deferred the bulk of the evidence collection, investigation and interviews for the Fryar case to the TBI years ago.

“Though we did not have a formal request from the District Attorney General, we found ourselves, for some time, in a ‘leadership’ role on this matter,” DeVine wrote. “The results of our lab analysis were made available to the District Attorney General and our personnel, but not explicitly to Millersville Police.

“We were more than receptive, however, to discuss the case and the evidence when the new leadership in the department expressed an interest several weeks ago in pursuing the investigation more directly.”

Evidence contained in the TBI’s forensic report indicates that Shauna Fryar was killed in Millersville before her body was taken to Nashville and dumped in the Cumberland River, the chief said. He did not disclose any details about how or when Shauna Fryar died or a potential motive for her death.

To this day, it is not known if Zaylee is alive or dead, but Hindman said he and his officers are still holding on to the hope of finding the little girl alive. She would be about four years old today.

As part of the investigation into the Fryar case, the chief said he and his detectives were planning to re-interview everyone that had been interviewed in 2011 “to see if their stories had changed” over time.

The list contains half a dozen names, maybe more, including Michael Fryar and Zaylee’s biological father, Thurman McMurry, the chief said.

McMurry was not considered a suspect in 2011 because he was incarcerated in the Robertson County Jail on charges relating to the assault of Shauna Fryar.

So far, the chief said two people had been developed as potential suspects in the case.

“We are going to pursue this (case) the best we can and the most efficiently we can to try to seek the truth,” Hindman said. “We want to look for the baby. Hopefully when we question these individuals, someone will say they know where the baby is.”

A 5,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to the whereabouts of Zaylee Grace Fryar. Anyone with information about the case should call the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
