Police search for teen missing since New Year’s Eve

By Anita Hassan

HOUSTON CHRONICLE

Police are searching for a 14-year-old girl who was last seen at Discovery Green New Year’s eve night.
Morgan Hernandez was last seen with her grandmother and two younger brothers for the New Year’s Eve celebration at the downtown Houston park around 9 p.m., family members said.
The teen’s grandmother walked about 30 feet away to purchase tickets at the ice skating rink with her grandsons and looked back to find that Morgan was gone, family members said.

Her father, Ruben Hernandez, 33, said his daughter left her purse with the little money she had in her grandmother’s car and had no cell phone. He and his wife do not believe the girl left the park on her own accord.

She is described as about 5 feet 6 inches tall, 130 pounds with dark hair, brown eyes. She has a scar under her chin and another wide scar between her elbow and forearm. Morgan was last seen wearing an orange tank top, brown boots, blue jeans and glasses. She was also wearing a silver Hello Kitty necklace with crystals.

“We love her and we miss her,” Ruben Hernandez said. “We just want her back as quick as possible.”
Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the Houston Police Department Missing Person’s unit at 713-731-5223.

BAYTOWN -

A Baytown family hasn't seen their 14-year-old daughter in 11 days and are holding out hope she will be found safely.

"You never think this would ever happen to you," said Nile Hernandez, the teen's mother.

Morgan Hernandez went to Discovery Green in Downtown Houston with her grandmother and two younger brothers on New Year's Eve.

Morgan stood and watched a concert near the stage while the others went to buy tickets for the ice skating rink. They were only a few feet away.

"Then all of a sudden, she said I turned around to pay for the tickets and when I turned back around she was gone," said Hernandez, whose mother was with Morgan that night.

The grandmother frantically searched the area, and she eventually called the police when she thought she spotted the teen.

"She thought she saw her and says there was a guy putting her in a silver car," said Hernandez. "I don't know where she's at.  I don't even know if she's in Houston anymore."

I realize Houston is a huge city but LE there continually characterizes these missing kids cases as runaways. I am not doubting that most are but girls like this and Ali Lowitzer (missing from Spring, TX) do not fit the bill. Is Houston PD too overwhelmed with other crimes to investigate these missing kids cases? It just boggles my mind how LE just appears to sweep these cases under the rug.

I personally feel something much more sinister is going on in Houston, probably an overactive imagination on my part but I can't shake the feeling.

I don't know what to make of this posting.....

Help Find Morgan Hernandez
we have received an email fussing about the other pages being taken down. we do not run these sites and have no knowledge of a lot of information that is being posted. what we have seen is a lot of negative attention and false information being given and attention seekers. This site is run by Morgan's family. We appreciate everyone who is truly wanting to help bring Morgan home. Like we keep telling everyone, there are only certain things that can be discussed with the public. There can not be a reward put up at this time. Please dont ask why, we just can't. There a lot of important people in high places working with us to find our baby. Please understand that Morgan's mom and dad appreciate everyone's help, but do not give false information. Please continue to pray for the safe return of Morgan. We miss her and want her back home. We will never give up!

First, I'd like to say I'm glad Morgan's been found safe.  Second, who has been helping her since she left home?  A fourteen year old in this situation is very much at risk for exploitation or worse.  JMHO  Moving this to "Missing Found Safe".

Wow just WOW!!! I am floored at this news.....but happy at the same time.
Thank goodness she was found safe. I really had my doubts that this would be a happy ending. Thank God I was wrong! I pray nothing sinister happened to her and that she was in a safe situation all this time.  an angelic monkey
