The race is on against snow and cold temperatures to find a family of six who are missing in the Northwest mountains of Nevada.

Rescue teams racing against the clock and the bitter cold to find 34 year old James Glanton, his girlfriend 25 year old Christina McIntee, his two children, Evan Glanton and Chloe Glanton, and Christina’s niece and nephew,  Shelby Fitzpatrick and Tate McIntee. The four missing children are ages, a 10 year old, two 4 year olds and a 3 year old. The six disappeared in the Seven Troughs mountain range on a snow outing to play in the snow.

The family has not had any communication with others since they went missing, according to Sheila Reitz of the sheriff’s office.

They went to the Seven Troughs area on isolated federal land about noon on Sunday in a silver Jeep with a black top, authorities said. It was unclear what supplies they might have been carrying.

“I’m hoping they all huddled together and stayed in the Jeep,” said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen, who added that the area has spotty cellular coverage. “That would be a best-case scenario.”

Rescue teams racing against the clock and the bitter cold worked into the night and were hoping to resume an aerial search Tuesday for a couple and four children who have been missing since Sunday when they went to play in the snow in the remote mountains of northwest Nevada.

The temperature was expected to drop below zero again early Tuesday after plunging to minus-16 degrees the day before in Lovelock in the rugged area where the group was believed to be, about 100 miles northeast of Reno.

Pershing County deputies said aircraft and crews on the ground were searching for James Glanton, 34, his girlfriend Christina McIntee, 25, and the four children: a 10-year-old, two 4-year-olds and a 3-year-old.

Two of the kids are the adults’ children, while one is a niece and one is a nephew, according to the Pershing County sheriff’s office, which identified them as Evan Glanton, Chloe Glanton, Shelby Fitzpatrick and Tate McIntee.

Extreme cold raises fears for 2 adults, 4 children missing in Nevada snow

James Glanton, 34, and Christina MacIntee, 25, are missing, along with Glanton's two children and MacIntee's niece and nephew. The children are 3 to 10 years old, the Pershing County Sheriff's Office said.

The group set out Sunday for Seven Troughs mountain range and haven't been seen since.

Fears intensified as the temperature plummeted to below zero.

Amanda Fitzpatrick, mother of 10-year-old Shelby Fitzpatrick, has joined the search in the freezing cold.

"It's been extremely hard, probably the hardest 24 to 36 hours of my life," she told CNN's Piers Morgan. "It's my baby girl."

I just don't know what to say about this.  My heart breaks thinking about it.  I hope they are found soon. But with the temperature going so low it just doesn't look good.  May they be found soon and they are okay. Prayers for the family during this most difficult time.  an angelic monkey

6 missing adults, children found alive in Nevada
Published: December 10, 2013 5:21PM

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Two adults and four children who were stranded in sub-zero temperatures in a Nevada mountain range for nearly 48 hours were found alive and well on Tuesday by search crews, authorities said.

The discovery came after a cellphone forensics team picked up a signal from the missing woman's phone and diverted rescuers to the area.

A searcher with binoculars spotted the group's Jeep about the same it was seen by a Civil Air Patrol crews, Civil Air Patrol Col. Tim Hahn said.

A ground team then retrieved the couple and four young members of their families.

Authorities said the Jeep had rolled over but it could not be immediately determined if the engine still worked. However, the group was able to build a fire.

Their decision to stay with the Jeep probably saved their lives, said Paul Burke, search and rescue coordinator who directed the effort Tuesday for the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

"They stayed together and that was the key that allowed them to live through this experience. You don't see that that often in search and rescue," said Burke, who has worked search and rescue in Alaska. "They did some pretty unusual things, heating up rocks and things. Staying together, that was a big deal."

The six people were taken to Pershing General Hospital, where about 100 well-wishers lined the street and broke into cheers and applause when two of the smallest children were taken from an ambulance. Others in the group walked into the hospital on their own.

How the Missing Nevada Family Survived 2 Days in Snow and Subzero Temperatures
Dec. 10, 2013

The family's Jeep Grand Cherokee drove over an embankment and flipped over on Sunday. Chris Montes, a member of the rescue team, said the family wasn't lost but figured someone would come to its aid.

The family members knew a search team was looking for them because they could hear whistling and saw choppers flying overhead, Montes said.

As they waited for help, Montes said the adults built a fire, which they kept fueled for two days. When the family was located, Montes said the kids were "bundled up and in good shape."

A search team followed tracks on the road today, which led them to footprints. Using binoculars, Montes said they were able to see the family's overturned Jeep.

Dr. Douglas Vacek of Pershing General Hospital said the entire group, including the four children, who range in age from 3 to 10 years old, did not suffer frostbite. Most, if not all of the group, is expected to be released tonight, he said.

Montes and Vacek both credited Glanton for taking care of his family as temperatures dipped below zero. Vacek said the entire group is in "amazing condition considering what they've been through."
