Boyfriend arrested in suspected slaying of pregnant Bloomington teen
May 23, 2010

Fontana police say the boyfriend of a pregnant Bloomington teen who has been missing for nearly two weeks killed her but they have been unable to find her body.

Anyssia Katherine Escamilla, 17, was last seen leaving Bloomington High School on May 11. Her family, who said it is uncommon for Anyssia not to contact them or return to her 3-year-old son, reported her missing.

While being interviewed, 18-year-old Jesus Francisco Avitia Jr. allegedly told investigators that he knew Anyssia was dead and indicated that she died somewhere in the city.

Avitia is being held at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of murder.

Police have not released a motive but Anyssia was three months pregnant with Avitia's child.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fontana police at 909-350-7700.

Teen Allegedly Admits to Killing Pregnant Girlfriend
May 25, 2010

Jesus Avitia Jr.
FONTANA, Calif. - Police aided by dogs and a sheriff's search-and-rescue team returned to a Rialto landfill Tuesday to search for the body of a pregnant 17-year-old whose boyfriend allegedly confessed to killing her.

Diggers searched for Anyssia Escamilla's body for more than 12 hours on Monday and planned to do the same Tuesday in a 50-by-25-yard area filled with tons of trash. If nothing is found, they will move to another landfill in Corona, Fontana police Sgt. Billy Green said.

"We're cautiously hopeful," he said. "We realize the enormity of the task before us, but we're going to do everything we can to bring some closure to the family."

Escamilla, the mother of a 3-year-old son from another relationship, never returned home from Bloomington High School on May 11. Investigators interviewed her 18-year-old boyfriend, Jesus Avitia Jr.

Avitia told police that he killed the Bloomington girl and placed her body in a trash can near his Fontana home, Green said.

Her body apparently was never seen by trash-truck drivers who use a robotic arm to empty cans. The trash was taken to one of the two dumps.

Avitia was charged Monday with murdering Escamilla and her fetus. She was three months pregnant.

The charges carry a special-circumstance allegation of multiple murder, but prosecutors had not decided whether to seek the death penalty, said Susan Mickey, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County district attorney's office.

Avitia remained jailed Tuesday. Mickey did not immediately know whether he had a lawyer.

Detectives did not know how Escamilla was killed because Avitia gave conflicting statements, Green said.

Investigators also were trying to determine a motive, though Avitia indicated he was unhappy that his girlfriend was carrying his child, Green said.

Escamilla's family said Avitia's family didn't approve of him seeing a girl who already had a child. Her parents said the two had been dating for about a year.

Calif teen pleads not guilty in girlfriend's death

FONTANA, Calif.—A teenager who police say admitted killing his pregnant girlfriend pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder as the search for her body continued at a Southern California landfill.

Anyssia Escamilla Search; Pregnant Calif. Teen Feared Murdered, Boyfriend Pleads Not Guilty
May 25, 2010

Anyssia Escamilla (Personal Photo)

FONTANA, Calif. (CBS/AP) Investigators and volunteers continued to search a Southern California landfill Tuesday for the body of pregnant 17-year-old Anyssia Escamilla, as her boyfriend pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder.

Bail was set at $2 million for 18-year old Jesus Avitia, Jr., who was arraigned in San Bernardino County Superior Court, reports CBS affiliate KCAL.

The search began Monday after police say Avitia Jr. admitted that he had killed Escamilla, who was three-months pregnant with their unborn child, and then dumped her body in a trash.

"He did indicate that he was responsible for her death and had put her into a trash can after he killed her, which is what brought us here," Sgt. Billy Green said at a news conference Monday at a Rialto landfill.

Escamilla hasn't been seen since May 11, when she disappeared from Bloomington High School, where she was a junior, says The Desert Sun.

Although police have not yet released a motive for the crime or the cause of death, Escamilla's parents said Avitia's family disapproved of the relationship because she had a 3-year-old son from a previous relationship.

"She's a brave young lady who only wanted to keep her baby," her mother, Priscilla Escamilla, said tearfully.

Priscilla Escamilla had planned to help her daughter raise her two children while Anyssia pursued her education.

"That was her main goal: to finish school and get a career to help her provide for her babies," Priscilla Escamilla said.
The teen's father, Jorge Escamilla, said he was extremely grateful for everyone's help.

"I think that because they are here looking for my daughter, and they know the pain that I have inside me, and they understand, and they're going to get my daughter," he said.

False alarm halts landfill search for girl
May 26, 2010

A discovery that amounted to a false alarm halted yesterday's search of a Rialto landfill where the body of a pregnant Bloomington girl is believed to have been dumped, Fontana police say.

"As investigators were nearing the end of their search of the Mid-Valley landfill, they located a large piece of skin," Sgt. Billy Green said this morning of the hunt for 17-year-old Anyssia Escamilla. "After examination by coroner's staff, the skin was found to be pig skin and completely unrelated to the Escamilla investigation."

As a result of the delay, the excavation of the dump was not completed. The work is expected to be finished late today. If the search is unsuccessful, investigators will begin digging tomorrow at a Corona landfill.

Escamilla's former boyfriend pleaded not guilty Tuesday to two counts of murder in the presumed deaths of the teenage mother and her unborn child. Eighteen-year-old Jesus Avitia Jr. is being held on $2 million bail.

The girl disappeared May 11 after attending classes at Bloomington High School. Last Friday, detectives interviewed Avitia and later said that he admitted killing the girl and throwing her body in a trash can.

Authorities have closed landfills in Rialto and Corona pending completion of the search. Investigators have not disclosed a motive in the case. However, the girl's relatives have said that Avitia's family did not approve of him dating someone who had young children.

I have a burned young female body apx. 20 miles west of Bloomington, off the I-10 freeway. The timeline doesn't seem to add up for me, and with her BF in jail at the moment...I don't know...but I'll post the link here anyway...just for the record.

CLAREMONT - Arson investigators on Tuesday combed through tall grass looking for clues to explain why the body of a young woman was set on fire in the predawn hours off of the eastbound 210 Freeway.
The California Highway Patrol learned at 3:40 a.m. of a small brush fire near the 210 just east of the Base Line exit, said Lt. Mike Rosson of the Los Angeles County sheriff's Homicide Bureau.

Los Angeles County firefighters extinguished the blaze and discovered the charred body of the woman about 20 feet from the San Bernardino County line.

Missing teenager's body found in California landfill

Posted - 8/5/2010 at 3:00PM

FONTANA, Calif. (AP) - The remains of a pregnant teenager were found in a landfill after months of searching, authorities said Thursday.

Anyssia Escamilla, 17, disappeared in May and shortly afterward her boyfriend was charged with her death.

Authorities aided by dogs covered two landfills before finding the body in a dump in Corona, police said.

Escamilla, the mother of a 3-year-old son from another relationship, was reported missing on May 11 when she failed to return home from Bloomington High School.

Police said her boyfriend, 18-year-old Jesus Avitia Jr., told detectives he killed Escamilla and placed her body in a trash can near his home. Her body apparently was never seen by trash-truck drivers who use a robotic arm to empty cans.

Avitia has pleaded not guilty to murdering the girl and her 3-month-old fetus. The charges carry a special-circumstance allegation of multiple murder that could make him eligible for the death penalty.

Detectives did not know how Escamilla was killed because Avitia gave conflicting statements, police said.

Investigators also were trying to determine a motive.

Escamilla's family said Avitia's family didn't approve of him seeing a girl who already had a child. Her parents said the two had been dating for about a year.

   and yet another one....

Body of pregnant teen found in Calif. landfill
By THOMAS WATKINS, Associated Press Writer

Thursday, August 5, 2010

(08-05) 12:36 PDT LOS ANGELES, CA (AP) --

The remains of a pregnant teenager were found in a landfill after months of searching and combing through mountains of trash, authorities said Thursday.

Anyssia Escamilla, 17, disappeared in May, and shortly afterward her 18-year-old boyfriend, Jesus Avitia Jr., was charged with her death.

A cadaver-sniffing dog found her body Wednesday evening and Escamilla's identity was confirmed through her dental records. Fontana police Detective Shawn Hare said the body was in a partially mummified state and missing its legs, which are believed to have been severed by a mechanical digger at the dump.

Escamilla, the mother of a 3-year-old son from another relationship, was reported missing on May 11 when she failed to return home from Bloomington High School.

Avita told police he killed Escamilla and put her in the trash after learning she was pregnant and refused to have an abortion. He wanted to follow in his mother's footsteps and pursue a nursing career but was afraid a baby would derail his plans, Hare said.

The search for Escamilla's body was narrowed down to an area about the size of two football fields at a dump in Corona after the manager there told police the approximate location that trash was dumped in the days following Escamilla's death.

"It was not pleasant," Hare said. "When you left there everyday, you never went into the house. You shed off your clothes in the garage and you would spray them down before you went in."

Avitia remained jailed on $2 million bail. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of murdering Escamilla and her fetus. He could face 40 years to life in prison if convicted.

Prosecutors have not decided whether they will seek the death penalty.

Escamilla's family said Avitia's family didn't approve of him seeing a girl who already had a child from another relationship. Her parents have said the two had been dating for about a year.

A final autopsy for Escamilla's body was pending.
