Speaks was booked for resisting an officer, resisting an officer by flight, aggravated assault and three warrants in other jurisdictions. WDSU has learned that Speaks has an extensive history of arrests and convictions that includes sex crimes.

Mid-afternoon on Wednesday, Kenner police served a search warrant on a single-family home in the 2000 block of Connecticut Avenue, near Armstrong International Airport, where Speaks and Sanchez were believed to be living.

Police dogs were part of the search.

KENNER, La. – Several law enforcement agencies spent the bulk of the day Wednesday searching the Kenner home of 28-year-old Margaret Sanchez and taking out potential evidence.

Several items from inside the home were boxed up and taken out.
 
Neighbors said Sanchez and Speaks lived in the home but that Speaks and Sanchez have only been together for a few months.
 
The neighbors told Eyewitness News that Sanchez was a street performer in the French Quarter. An online profile page also said she was a cocktail waitress and a model.
 
Neighbors also said the couple mostly kept to themselves.
 
“Him I don’t really know about him,” said one neighbor. “He doesn’t wave, say hi, or say bye or anything. Her, well she’s… I would have never expected that.”

Sanchez will remain in Tangipahoa Parish Jail. Through an attorney, she said she wished to speak with her father before deciding anything.
 
Earlier Speaks and Sanchez were questioned by the Hancock Sheriff's Office. Speaks has multiple aliases and could not be firmly identified at first. He is a registered sex offender in North Carolina. He was convicted in 2003 of three counts of indecent liberty with a minor.
 
After being processed in federal court in New Orleans, Speaks is expected to be held in the St. Tammany Parish Jail.

Surry County fugitive arrested, linked to dismemberment case

A fugitive from Mount Airy has been arrested in Mississippi and is being held for questioning in the case of a woman's dismemberment in the New Orleans area.

Terry Christopher Speaks, 39, was arrested around 10 p.m. Tuesday, sister station WDSU reported.
 
Mississippi police said Speaks was wanted on warrants in four jurisdictions. Surry County Sheriff Graham Atkinson said Speaks was arrested on a fugitive warrant from Surry County.
 
WDSU reported Speaks was charged with resisting an officer, resisting an officer by flight and aggravated assault.
 
In September, Speaks was listed as an absconder in North Carolina on probation violations. Surry County detectives tracked Speaks to Pennsylvania, but he disappeared even with the aid of U.S. Marshals, Atkinson said.
 
Speaks was put on probation in January 2010 for a felony sex offender residence violation, NC Department of Corrections officials said.
