Joesama - I never in a million years thought I'd be able to quit smoking.  When the time is right you will be able to.
Klaas I never would have thought you would be a smoker. Was it hard?

Last May I got sick and ended up not being able to breathe.  I called 911 and was in respiratory failure.  Lucky for me, after 2 days in ICU and 5 in the hospital I was OK and sent home.  I quit smoking the day before I went to the hospital only because I couldn't breathe.

I was on the patch in the hospital and stayed on it until I weaned myself off which took about 3 months.  I continued to occasionally use the gum afterwards for a bit.

Yes, it was hard but not as bad as I thought.  Also, I feel so much better I wouldn't consider going back.  I am breathing better than I have in probably 15 years.

My husband quit at the same time completely cold turkey (jerk, lol).  We did this while in the middle of all the construction work too!

Do you still want a cig sometimes, Klaas?  I haven't smoked in 22 years and still would like one.

Oh how horrible Klaas. I'm glad you called 911 and I am glad you got well. My ex boyfriend quit cold turkey and gave me hell about smoking after he quit. He also gained 80 pounds, so that is probably the reason I keep smoking to this day.  I am very proud of you and your husband. Some day I will quit. I hope it will be soon. I have never had the urge to quit, so maybe I am making progress. Thanks again Klaas.

Oddly no.  I can even be in a casino and not care if the person next to me is smoking.  I really don't think about it at all.

lol, I had to quit twice because I gave into wanting one after I quit the first time.  Quitting once is torture enough.  So then when I managed to quit the second time I said never again.  Just one leads to just one more and before long you're smoking again.  But yep, they still smell good to me.

JSM, you here?  What's going on?  Monkey Hugs!
Sorry I am here Lovin. I have been having anxiety from work and went to the doctor. They did an EKG on me and told me I need to go to a cardiologist and have a Holter monitor because of something called a short interval, but I don't know what that is.

JSM - my friend who just turned 30 had to have one...no big deal to have but they just want to make sure everything is okay.  You dont have to answer but do you take any anti-anxiety medication now?  Thats what my doctor put me on and it helped.
I'm fine Leroy. Zanny the Nanny is now my friend. They did an EKG on me today and found some kind of something that I don't know what they were talking about. I also found out I can't take Chantix because of the xanax so I can continue to smoke. Happy days are here again. Thanks for asking about me Leroy. I'm fine! Just wanted to know what a Holter monitor is!
FWIW, I smoke like a fiend myself.  God Bless Sassy for getting thru that.  I can't take chantix either...
I smoke like a fiend too,  have cut back a lot though. I figure someone has to pay the tobacco tax, so why shouldn't I do my civic duty! I am very proud of Sassy and all the monkeys that have quit. I think there are a lot here who have quit. I wish I had that much will power.

You guys can do it, too!    Its hard for a few days but you will feel so much better in just a couple of weeks!    The first 72 hours are the worse - it takes that long to get the nicotine out of your system.    Cutting back is good.    That will help a lot.   Also, try making certain places off-limits to cigarettes (like your car, your house, etc).

And I was a heavy smoker, 2+ packs a day for close to 40 years.  I did gain about 20 extra pounds but I'm working on losing that right now.  It's coming off slowly but surely, lol

I feel your pain Klaas.   I'm working on that now, too.   Treadmill every morning!

I was also a heavy smoker - mainly because me and my hubby like drinking a few beers in the evening and smoking.   Bad habit!   When I drank alcohol, I chain smoked.
