Casey Anthony defense team wants trial moved to South Florida

Amy L. Edwards and Sarah Lundy | Sentinel Staff Writer
    5:03 PM EDT, May 4, 2009

Casey Anthony's defense attorney wants her trial moved to Miami-Dade County, according to a change of venue motion filed Monday afternoon.

Kissimmee lawyer Jose Baez stated if Anthony 's case remains in Orange County, her right to a fair trial and impartial jury "will undoubtedly be violated."

Baez listed a slew of examples of media reports on the case – ranging from protesters staged outside the Anthony family home to audio files of law-enforcement interviews.

"The overwhelming majority of the media's coverage of this case has been negative for the defendant," Baez stated.
"As one local news station reported, its own reporter, Kathi Belich asked Casey Anthony, 'Casey, why don't you care about Caylee? Why won't you say where your little girl is?'"

He stated Anthony "has shown a clear, pervasive inflammatory and prejudicial coverage of her case by local media."

"In fact, few would disagree that Ms. Anthony's case may be the most publicized coverage of a criminal case in the history of our state," he wrote.

Baez stated local news networks continue to report "on all aspects of this case and public opinion continues to be heated and negative towards Casey Marie Anthony."

Baez cited a study by a broadcast monitoring service, which states that 14,235 stories that mentioned the Caylee Anthony case aired between July 15 and Nov. 18. Of those, about 46 percent were in the Orlando-Daytona Beach-Melbourne area. About 24 percent were in the Tampa
St. Petersburg metro.

He stated the study found the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale market came in seventh, in terms of exposure to the story.

"Moving this trial to a location far enough away from the local media will not end the coverage, but it will have a chilling effect on the barrage of media coverage that a local trial will bring," Baez stated.

With the neighbors latest interview drop, and the discription of Cindy as being "Eee-ville" could render a great avenue for Baez to explore for bus speedbumps.

There is no way I can see that Baez can win this case, but right now he is in the spotlight, how do you perceive his future in law, when he loses???? an angelic monkey

I thought we wanted Casey to have an attorney that isn't that good so that she goes to prison for life or gets the DP.
I hope that she gets the proper representation that her karma warrants.  I will leave it at that.   an angelic monkey

I can't help but think that little Caylee is up in heaven overseeing some of these things.  It is like Scott Peterson's wife and son.  I kept thinking that they would find someway to be found and give Scott what he deserves and it happened.  Maybe that's just the little imaginary angel I have in my mind.

But for the passion of the Monkeys and other 'bloggers', the Scamanthony's would be on with them.

Casey Anthony: Jose Baez wants case moved to South Florida

Casey Anthony's defense team is recommending that the judge move the case to Miami-Dade County.

"Their rationale is that it can handle a case of this magnitude," WESH-Channel 2's Bob Kealing said. "Basically they're saying that this particular large metropolitan area has seen the least amount of this coverage."

Anchor Jim Payne asked about the option of selecting jurors from South Florida and bringing them to Central Florida for the case. Kealing said his sources tell him that possibility is unlikely.

WFTV-Channel 9's Kathi Belich opened her report with a slam at Casey: "The party mom and proud of it -- even after her daughter Caylee's disappearance and murder, posting these photographs on line." That commentary was accompanied by party photographs. Casey is charged with daughter Caylee's murder.

WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer scoffed at Anthony attorney Linda Kenney Baden's comments on "Today" this morning that Anthony couldn't get a fair trial in Orlando because of heavy media coverage.

"It's disingenuous," Sheaffer said. "Every time you go on television to complain about the case it just re-energizes the interest of the national media."

WFTV anchor Martie Salt said that Baez tomorrow will question a jail guard who was with Anthony when she learned her child's remains had been found.

I'm wondering if there's any duct tape handy. A nice fat piece needs to be slapped on that clowns kisser.  He probably skewed any stats so that he and his band of misfits could have the roadtrip/vacation in miami. Sweet gig, he can have the mysterious benefactor pay all expenses while he gets his party on everynight. Oh yeah, and when somebody tells him what to do he'll try to stumble his way through the trial.....but what does it matter really what happens to his "girl", DP, LWOP, that's not all that importante` , he has a career to manage now.

I for one am going to give the gal a pass.  She more than likely just got a little over confident in her looks after spending so much time sitting next to Phil Spector>  She looked really hot next to him, cause he's beyond homely, borderline scary.
That's what I'm gonna try and do from now on, find a disturbing looking man to always be seated beside me in pictures, then I'll look so good!!
