I, Jan van der STRATEN, police chief with the Aruban Police Corps, state the following.

On Monday June 13th 2005, at approximately 13.00 hours I spoke informally with the suspect Joran Andreas Petrus v/d SLOOT at the police station in Oranjestad.

On my question to Joran whether he can tell me what happened after the girl had fallen asleep on the beach near Fisherman's Hut, he answered:

“I called DEEPAK and he came with two dogs. I think he raped the girl and did something to her.”

To my question where the girl was buried then, he answered:
“I think that it was buried then next to the wall of the Fisherman's Hut, for the rest I would not know either.”

During the conversation Joran showed differing emotions. Sometimes he cried, sometimes he was direct in his answers.

Joran also indicated that he was very sorry for his family and that he had the best contact with his father.

When I asked him why did he lie to his father about the Holiday Inn, Joran answered that he had disappointed his father in/with that.

Of this I reported on my oath as officer on June 17th 2005.

Paulus was involved since 2 am Mnday morning, when he was called by Joran and went to the beach. On about 11 pm Monday night he held the "no body no case" meeting at the sloot home, and orchestrated the false HI dropoff alibi. Jannsen has told us about that meeting. A few hours later, at 3 am or so, he told the police (with Beth there) that he had picked up the couple at 4 am (later confirmed by wiretap). On about noon Monday (or possibly Tuesday) Joran and Paulus met with Van stratten in the police station. You can find verification of that meeting in Paulus' statement. No record survives (that I know of) of what Joran, his Father, and the Police chief said or worked out.

Paulus and Jan Van stratten are in this since the beginning. They "higher powers" will not crack and they have huge pressure they can apply to keep anyone from revealing the truth. The best bet is to get the boat "friend" to cooperate, or to recover some physical evidence.

I have not read back so I don't know if this has been discussed.  I was very surprised watching 20/20 last night that Eliz. Vargas' portion of the report treated the investigation as if it was a serious investigation.  There was no mention of any discrepancies such as in the PV's, the chocolate to cleaning fluid thing, blood in the car, the FBI being excluded, the washed up bones that went missing, the belt at the lighthouse, the portion of Natalee's shirt that washed up, the comments from the Kalpoes in the Skeeters tape, the painted rocks, that there was no forensic evidence in the car even though we know Natalee had been in it, and any of a number of other things that would suggest the investigation was anything but thorough. It was reported that she vanished without a trace, but of course we know better.

A's ...they would have to run a 6 week Mini Series to fit everything in!

Yesterday it opened, with yesterday's date, but the stories were Saturday's.

klaas - I tried online search - I think with the new format, they've just changed the web address. However, even using what the search provided doesn't work. Any ideas?

i could live with a 6 week mini series.  rather have a l2 hr. marathon though.

I am not from Aruba i think u guys know...just went there often..before all this...and met MJ....and some dealerson te beach u know?  did not see the real dark side....friends pointed out lorenzoes crazy painted house in savaneta....
i wish i had more answers than questions myself.

i just know yeah....tourists might try to have sex on beach, and guard might break it up, or startle them for the hell of it,,,,or watch who friggin knows those pervs right? 

BUT a LOCAL....not likely.  Really.  I don't see Joran going there to have sex w/ her....

NEWSARTICLE - the situation in Holland.

Joran will go to the police to make a statement on Thursday.He is now talking to his lawyer about how to do this juridically. He does not want to say what he is going to declare or if he even will make a confession.

The 20-year old is now offifially a suspect in the murder-case of natalee Holloway. According to the OM about 80% of what he said on the DeVries tapes matches with what the OM had already discovered.

Meanwhile the suspect is travelling from one hideout to the other. For his safety he had not been sleeping in his own student-appartment for some time now. Yeah, because they were happy when he was arrested last.  They couldn't stand him according to reports.  He was always causing/bring trouble Also his second hideout proved to be unsafe fairly quickly.

VDSloot claims that someone close to the OM has warned him that there are serious death-threats.
Therefor the suspect again moved to another hideout on sundayafternoon. The OM did not want to comment on it.

On the personal Hyves-page of Joran the threats are are coming in in hundreds.
"Bianca"wants to "feed him to the sharks" , "Jennifer" has "a bullet reserved with his name on it" and "Saar"is "puking over the biggest bastard ever".
"Mark" even takes it a step further:"why don't you kill yourself , you son of a bitch!"   Gotta love it!
An "Anti-Joran Site" and a "Joran must die site" were removed by the ISP's by the end of the day.

On saturday Joran was not very impressed by the new developments. Sitting in his hideout he said:"Police haven't come to get me , did they?"   Cocky Son of Bitch!

On friday he went out to party and it was his intention to do the same on saturday. But his family told him that was not such a good idea......  Maybe some RU posters can help hide him.  I'm sure they'd be glad too! CharlieRat, he needs you, buddy!  (but better watch your back)

After the DeVries show was on tv Joran said in a chatsession that he might have to leave the country. But still the seriousness of the matter did not seem to get him. "A lot of people are angry , so what".  AGAIN, Cocky Son of a Bitch!  just plain sick!
His parents were given the advice to go to a hideout too , but they refused to leave their house. They have not officially reacted on the developments up till now.  They need to get there precious lil sporter and run faaaarrrr away!  I do feel bad for the brothers, who probably wanna kick his ass for putting them through this

In the meantime everyone in the Netherlands is in pursuit of the suspect. Go Get 'Em! Lots of people gathered in front of a house in Drachten which was  believed to be one of his hideouts.

Even the 26 year old Johan , who lives there received death-threats. The people living in the appartmentbuilding wre threatened so much that they decided to to hire securityguards  Now he's brought crap to the NL with him.  Innocent people are suffering
The OM appeals the decision of the judge to deny the arrest of the suspect. According to the OM there is enough evidence to pick him up. The OM says that the moment Joran sets foot on Aruban soil , he will be arrested.

Mondaynight Hans Mos stated that the chance the DeVries tapes would be admissible in court was very big. According to Mos the recordings were made by a civilian without any cooperation of the authorities , and because of theat there are no judicial objections to use them. "I take this material very serious "Mos said.

Monday , on request of the Aruban authorities, the Dutch police searched the home of the suspects grandparents and also his own appartment  Poor Granny. Whether this provided any evidence or not  is not known.
According to Joran himself the police took his laptop , the harddisk of his home-computer and they also made a copy of the sim-card of his mobile phone.  Well, I'm sure if nothing else, they'll find plenty of porn

makes you wonder if maybe jean akers is a source for the "she was buying and using cocaine" tales that boreilly says he saw reference to.  an fbi agent would probably use a source like akers without much or any corroboration.

I have two considerations to throw into the mix:

Maybe Paulus knew that 2K were "scared" (Joran calls them stupid; maybe they just don't have a good knowledge of law) and Paulus played on their fear to make them give Joran an alibi.

Maybe Joran simply switched shoes with someone else.

They kept them in line by pointing out that Joran was a minor and they were adults....Anita saying "there were adults there"....THE HAG...

in the real world, they wouldn't be.  but this is aruba and taco we're talking about here.  seems like the telephone company that owns the box would have been the one taco checked with, if he checked with anybody.

If this has been brought up and discussed, sorry for repetition.

IMHO Joran’s current statements have shocked the Aruban establishment as well as the general public.  They must have believed all along that Joran was innocent of harming Natalee, that he just guilty only of disposing of her body.  The last time he was arrested, Mos said they knew she was dead, and what happened to her, and it was not necessarily murder.

Jug said the polis asked early on whether Natalee seizures.  It is obvious ALE knew from the first time they interrogated Joran what the “bad thing” was that happened.  They could have only gotten the seizure idea from one of two sources:   1)  Joran’s confession on the 10th  OR 2)  Paulus (who knew from the beginning) told someone, probably Van der Straaten, his friend.   VDStraaten would have let the ALE know about it.  Apparently they all bought the idea from the first (based on what Paulus told them) that it was a freak accident, and  Joran--no matter whatever else he did wrong that night--didn’t personally harm Natalee.   Paulus must have believed it would be unjust for Joran to pay for what was an accident.

To the Arubans, women tourists are routinely given spiked drinks and  end up in chollar houses.  They think nothing of it.  Joran has done it 20 times before himself.  But nobody ever died from it, so they believed this must have been a freak accident caused by the girl herself:  she was a drug addict and a nutcase who OD’d, or she had  some pre-existing condition which caused her to die suddenly.   This would make sense with what they initially told the parents.  “She’ll turn up….” and what we know of ALE statements and actions, esp. Dompig.  The Aruban establishment believed all along that Joran was innocent of harming Natalee, maybe deplored that he disposed of the body but were going to cover it up forever.

Joran rationalizes that he didn’t personally spike her drink (though he was the one who benefited) ergo he didn’t harm her.  Paulus and Anita believe that and could thus defend their son forever without guilt, and the ALE believed it as well, and could thus protect him and Aruba, and try to minimize anything that came out.  I think this is why they worked so hard to make sure none of it ever came out…any evidence at all.  It was an obvious cover-up from the beginning.  From not initially arresting the 3 suspects, to trying to foist it off on the 2 guards, to making every bit of evidence disappear, even to Paulus’s friend the judge basically refusing to prosecute Joran or the K’s no matter what the prosecutor tried to do.

I think the entire bunch should be prosecuted as accessories after the fact.
