Construction update.  Today they delivered a load of sand to prepare the area for the new slab.  We have about 10 guys working here today.  3 for the slab prep and another 7 working on patching all the holes the plumber made this weekend in the exterior stucco.

Sand for slab prep (truck was driven by Bobcat Bob  )

This is what they are going to start repairing today:

Will you be posting some paint chips so we can help you decide what color the house should be?
I'm thinking banana yellow, maybe orangutan reddish brown, jungle green, silverback gray, macaque beige.......

In much of Southern California, this is the typical color of a home in a newer tract.  Frankly, I'm tired of tan/cream exteriors.  When you look at densly populated areas like Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita you can't tell one house from the other, they all look the same.

Typical

What we are considering (note, this is not a photo of our house, LOL )

British Protesters in Ape Suits Protest Soapmaker
Monday , April 21, 2008

Dozens of Greenpeace activists clad in orangutan suits brought havoc to a soap factory in the U.K. Monday in protest of the clearing of rainforests in Indonesia, the U.K.'s Daily Mail reported.

Greenpeace claims that suppliers to Unilever, the maker of Dove soap, are clearing the rainforests to plant palm oil trees used to make the soap.

Approximately 40 of the ape-like protesters invaded the Unilever factory near Liverpool and the company’s headquarters in London Sunday, disrupting operations for the soapmaker and overrunning production lines, the Daily Mail reported.

The environmental advocacy group said they’re doing their part to protect the endangered orangutans.

“By doing nothing to stop its suppliers destroying rainforests and peatlands to grow palm oil, Unilever is helping to kill off the last remaining orangutans on the planet and massively speeding up climate change,” Greenpeace Executive director John Sauven told the Daily Mail

Klaas, I like those colors for the exterior of a house.  Don't say you don't like tan/white, I just painted my great room/dining area Sand/white.  It was an off white and boy did it really catch the dirt.  You look like progress is being made fast.  I THINK you will have your 4th of July shindig this year from the looks of it.

New carpet goes down in my home Friday, Saturday new furniture comes in.  My husband painted 1/2 of the kitchen this weekend and is still complaining.  He really needs to look at Klaas's pictures. He just does not know how bad it could be if I really set my mind to it.

If you ask the wrong question, of course, you get the wrong answer. We find in design it’s much more important and difficult to ask the right question. Once you do that, the right answer becomes obvious.<br />Quote: Amory Lovins

I love tan and white for the interior, just not the exterior.  I wouldn't dislike it so much if it weren't overused out here on exteriors.

Construction update.  Yesterday and today they were working inside and outside the house.  There have been a crew of about 10-12 guys here all day both days.

Outside they have been repairing the holes the plumber had to make when he moved our hot and cold water overhead.  Here are a couple of examples.  There are lots more areas they've patched but you seen one patch you've seen them all.  They will paint the areas blue to match the rest of the house for now.  It won't be for another month or so that we are ready to really paint the exterior.  Painting will be completed tomorrow

Yesterday:

Today:

Inside they were finishing the preparation for the slab.  They put down a layer of sand then a plastic sheet then another later of sand on top of that.  Tomorrow they will put in the rebar etc and probably pour the slab on Thursday:

love the green and white house paint

Your blue and grey scheme above, or should I say the plumbers' blue and grey color scheme, looks like it's from the 70's.  The bottom pic looks like, well, uh, just tell them to blow out the roof and plant some tomatoes and maybe a lemon tree.  Then make a pitcher of bloody marys and start drinking.

Klaas,

What did you do with all the furnishings in the rooms being worked on?  Just curious....our home is small and I have often wondered what we would do if major renovations were done.  There's not one room that could hold everything....and the garage needs a thorough purging.
