ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY BALLOON RELEASES

Balloons When a latex balloon is released, it rises to a height of approximately 28,000 feet, with the helium gas expanding as it rises. With temperatures dropping to minus 40 degrees at this altitude, the balloon freezes. As the helium continues to expand

Hope this helps..

Hi Everyone

I think you are talking about mylar balloons not Latex.

The release will be Latex balloons if you look at the pic on the myspace page it shows a latex ballon.

I had a balloon and party store business back in the 80's and 90's. I know a little about latex balloons, sold thousands if not millions,

never kept count. But I will give you this

Latex balloons are sometimes confused with plastic items and lumped in with the plastics litter problem. The oft-used phrase, “latex balloons and other plastics” is improper. Latex is not a plastic. It’s organic, made from the sap of rubber trees collected through an absolutely harmless tapping process very simple to that used for collecting the maple sap used for making syrup.

Moreover, latex balloons are totally biodegradable — the only type of balloon used in a professionally-produced mass release. A latex balloon’s molecular structure begins breaking down with inflation and gathers momentum when exposed to sunlight and the atmosphere. Within three hours, most latex balloons released into the atmosphere rise to approximately five miles, begin to oxidize, freeze and shatter into spaghetti-like pieces. Once on the ground gases and microorganisms attack the latex, continuing the natural decomposition process — even in the dark.

http://www.balloonrelease.com/faqs.htm

I don't think releasing 1 to 6 latex balloons with fliers in them is going to hurt, now cig butts, condoms, laying around might.

I have visited most every state in this country, never saw any Latex balloons laying around, did see lots of trash.

I hope everyone will keep in mind, this is for and about HaLeigh.

With temperatures dropping to minus 40 degrees at this altitude, the balloon freezes. As the helium continues to expand in the frozen balloon, the balloon undergoes "brittle fracturing" and ruptures into small slivers which scatter and fall to earth. A small percentage of balloons which are released will experience leaks from defects and will not rise high enough to freeze and burst. The distance they travel and their distribution will be determined by current prevailing winds.

Research indicates that if 10% of the balloons from a 500 balloon release were to fall into this category, the average distribution would be one balloon per 15 square mile area.

OT:

HLN is covering Robert Manwill, body tentatively identified as being him. So sad.

May God rest his little soul and hold him close.

 Awnser

Yes paper is biodegradable, mainly due to the fact that paper originates from a natural source. Paper is made from the bark of many different trees.

Yes, but paper also litters up the streets and sides of the roads, and is unsightly.

It's been 6 months since Haleigh went missing.  Caylee was found after 6 months and I'm praying Haleigh is found some day soon as well.

I am not trying to start anything really, I am not. I am getting pretty frustrated because as I have said before, nod  matter what Ron does it will be picked apart and made to look wrong and or bad, just as this balloon release. He is not asking for donations of ANY kind, but he is still being put in a bad light for trying. You all think it is because I am a Ron supporter but that is so far from true, it is because it is wrong. People yell he is not doing anything, just yesterday all were singing Crystals praises for her school supplies thing, asking for donations for that and saying yeah and look what Ron is doing, nothing, some even said they would be glad to see him do something, what happened to that, I am not seeing anything nice or kind. You all wonder why he and his family are hiding, go back and open your hearts and minds and really look at it and it will be pretty obvious. This nit picking everything he and his family do try to do in order to help find Haleigh is only hurting Haleigh.

I forgot the JMO after my last post, sorry. I just am glad that BOTH sides are doing something and just wish that just one time it could be left at that instead of picked apart and put down. Is it not great that those fliers will end up in several states, several places putting her face and information out to the masses? I think so. JMO
