“In a roundabout way, yes,” WESH’s Bob Kealing said. “David Evans, his attorney, says Kronk sustained a workplace injury from the job he took to avoid the unwanted notoriety that the Anthony case brought him.”

The injury? A neck and shoulder one that he suffered while working at a warehouse job for Orange County, and doctors say he shouldn’t return to work, Evans told WESH.

Kronk was the meter reader who found Caylee Anthony’s remains in December. Casey Anthony is charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter, Caylee.

In February, Kronk was promoted to inventory specialist, a job that lasted just eight months, WOFL-Channel 35′s Holly Bristow said. Kronk had been on family medical leave since July 20, but never returned to work and never told a supervisor, Bristow added.

The county told Kronk that the family leave expired Oct. 2. He failed to show for a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday, which resulted in his firing.

His firing means taxpayers no longer have to pay his legal bills in the Anthony case, WFTV-Channel 9 anchor Martie Salt said. The county had paid $12,500 in legal fees for Kronk, Salt added.

What of Kronk’s future? He’s exploring his options, WESH’s Payne said.

New proof that the saga of Caylee and Casey Anthony is a worldwide phenomenon: The crime story is becoming a play Down Under.

Tot Mom, created and directed by Oscar-winner Steven Soderbergh, will be staged from Dec. 18 to Jan. 31 by the Sydney Theatre Company.

The company's Web site says that Soderbergh uses "excerpts from transcripts of Nancy Grace's show, court documents and police reports" to create the play, which is described as "a compelling drama for our sensation-hungry times." By taking the material from the public record, a playwright would not have to compensate an author.

Casey Anthony is charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter, Caylee.

On her HLN show, Grace repeatedly has referred to Anthony as "tot mom." A spokeswoman for the show said Grace had no comment about the play.

Yet Grace is evidently a major character. The company's Web site says Grace's "public crusade for justice for little Caylee transformed the case from a tragic story to a 24-hour news spectacle."

Essie Davis, who acted in Australia and The Matrix Revolutions, will play Grace.

Ticket prices range from $30 to $75.

Soderbergh is one of Hollywood's most acclaimed directors. He won the directing Oscar for Traffic, and his other credits include sex, lies and videotape, Erin Brockovich, The Informant! and the Ocean's Eleven series.

The Sydney company's synopsis for Tot Mom hints the play will explore issues that intrigue people who have followed the case closely: "Why was Caylee's disappearance not reported to police for over a month? When was the child last seen? What was the strange smell in the boot of Casey Anthony's car? Who and where was the alleged baby sitter?"
The Sydney Theatre Company is a prestigious group. The artistic directors are Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett and her husband, Andrew Upton. The company's patron is Giorgio Armani.

ORLANDO -- The latest drama regarding Casey Anthony has nothing to do with new developments in her trial.

Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh has reportedly created a play based on the case, called “Tot Mom,” the Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday.

The play, based on the tragic events surrounding the death of Casey’s 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, is said to open in mid-December at the Sydney Theater Company in Australia.

The company putting on the play said Soderbergh uses excerpts from transcripts of Nancy Grace’s show, court documents and police reports, so he will not have to compensate anyone.

Soderbergh won an Academy Award for directing the 2000 film “Traffic.” He also directed “Erin Brockovich,” the 2001 remake of “Ocean’s Eleven” and its sequels. His most recent film, “The Informant!” opened in September.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- An Australian theatre company is performing a play based on the Caylee Anthony saga.

Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh created "Tot Mom" from court documents and excerpts of CNN Headline News' Nancy Grace show. The argumentative host helped make the case a national phenomenon with relentless coverage, coining alleged killer Casey Anthony as the "Tot Mom."

Grace is apparently a prominent figure in the production. She's being played by Essie Davis, who appeared in "Australia" and "The Matrix Revolutions."

A spokeswoman said Grace had no comment on the play.

The Sydney Theatre Company is staging the play Dec. 18 to Jan. 31. Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett and her husband are artistic directors of the prestigious group.

Anthony has pleaded not guilty in the case and says a baby sitter kidnapped her daughter.
