someone said that they had not seen Beth since this all happened - no one answered. I scanned ahead. I saw her. She said that she wanted everyone to pray for Stephany's family, and some other stuff. I noticed that she was not speaking as she normally does. Hard to explain and under the circumstances - it's understandable. I can't really explain how she was speaking, but it didn't sound like her normal self.

BTW - I thought she looked very attractive.

Yes. and the driver said he didn't see a cell phone just that he was on computer a lot and smoking non-stop and nervous.

I dont think that he could get in the internet when he was on trip to nazca.

They have wireless modems there just like they do here. You don't need wi fi if you have a wireless modem. I have used them all over with some dead spots, but most of the time they pick up. Some areas are not as fast as in the US but you can still be on the internet.

For whatever reason, the hotel had his passport.

It is not uncommon for hotels in Peru/South America to require you to leave your passport with the clerk when you register. You get it back when you check out and your bill is paid in full.
Had Joran requested his passport back, they would have cleaned his room. He needed as much time between him and Stephany's dead body.

They dont ask you for your passport. maybe the hotel has a security box

I think it was said he kept handling the lap top,  not so much being on the computer, as in being connected to the internet.  That was my understanding. Like he kept fidgeting with it.  I'm not quite sure of the wording, but from what I remember, it made me think he really wanted to either email someone or see the news.

Van der Sloot, 22, confessed to police beatings that killed Flores, 21, on Sunday 30 May in the hotel room where he was staying in the district of Miraflores, after having met playing poker in a casino.

The Dutchman was also the main accused in the disappearance of American student Natalee Holloway in Aruba in 2005, but not found the body, was released only on two occasions for lack of evidence.

Gamarra said that in the case of Flores, the Van der Sloot confession was accurate and powerful, and is consistent with all evidence gathered by police.

Thus, he said, police no longer considered necessary to perform a reconstruction of the crime at the scene, as initially thought.

"There is nothing that can change the fact," the official said.

According to Peruvian law, after the prosecutor receives the police report of the case should immediately file charges against Van der Sloot, who weighs about an order of preventive detention.

Similarly, once formalized by the prosecution charges, a judge must rule immediately on whether open criminal proceedings against the accused or declare that there is no place to do so.

The Netherlands faces a sentence of between 15 and 35 years in prison for murder.

Van der Sloot has been held in a cell at the headquarters of the National Police since Saturday when it was brought to the border with Chile, after the authorities of that country after being expelled by the Peruvian police warned that the Dutchman had escaped towards the neighboring country.

According to several media reports, which have not been confirmed by police, Van der Sloot told his interrogators that Flores killed in a fit of rage because the player discovered compromising information about his past when reviewing your laptop.

According to the autopsy report, Flores, a student of business administration and daughter of businessman and racer Ricardo Flores, was killed by heavy blows to the head and neck, and his body had multiple bruises and abrasions.

Last Thursday, when he was arrested in Chile, a U.S. court filed charges against Van der Sloot for attempted extortion of the Holloway family, which was offered in April to reveal the location of the girl's body in exchange for $ 250,000 .

The New York Post reported that the FBI tried to entrap Van der Sloot to stop extortion, and gave him $ 25,000, money the Dutchman used to finance his trip to Lima on 14 May.

The newspaper said the Dutchman was able to travel to Peru because federal agents had no immediate charges against him nor asked to be arrested in Aruba.

Enrique Flores, Stephany brother said to the AP on Wednesday that the family does not want to think about things that may have occurred and would have prevented the death of the young.

WoW!  This is really fast.  I hope they have all their test results back.  Don't much care for the part about the confession being accurate, either.  But we shall see what the actual charges are.

Aruba bears the responsibility for him fleeing. Yanno, they can't have it both ways. Saying that the FBI should have moved on him and earlier saying they lack jurisdiction.

The extortion occurred on Aruba. Why the heck didn't they arrest them. Not only do they not arrest people for crimes on Aruba - they blame others that lack any official capacity for not arresting too, it's the very definition of insanity.

EXACTLY.  All they had to do was put a pair of handcuffs on him and hand him to the FBI.  DONE. Instead, JVS was informed of what was going down and left the island, ASAP.  Don't believe he planned on returning either.  JMO

I'm only going to take a guess here about Greta's tirade toward the FBI.  Greta talked to Beth the day this happened with Joran.  She said Beth was devastated that her money allowed Joran to escape to Peru and kill again and the FBI should have arrested him on the spot instead of letting him get away.  Well how do you think Joran was able to get in touch with Beth?  My guess is Joran contacted Greta and Greta was the go between with Joran and Beth.  I read on here yesterday (I think) that the FBI had told Beth to not speak about this.  Could Greta have been dumb enough to supply the money to Beth and John Q. in exchange for an exclusive on the arrest of Joran?  Maybe the money wasn't intended to have been lost forever in Greta's eyes.  Now the money is gone and Greta has no exclusive interview and I would say she is mad as he$$.  JMO

Yes, Greta actually said she "talked" with Beth this morning (the day this happened).  That is why I believe Greta was the go between of Joran to Beth.  How else could Joran get in touch with Beth without the help of Greta? JMO

I just don't understand why Greta is running the FBI down for someone tipping him off in Aruba??? 

I think she must think it makes for good fireworks... and she can keep it in the lawyer panel realm... without having to run 87 clips of that walloping tish-head

She spoke at the opening of the Natalee Holloway Center in DC.  That is the only time I have heard
her make any statement.  That had been scheduled for some time.

I think you found the demographic Aruba is targeting with their behavior these past 5 years.

If you are a criminal, you can expect the paid spokesman for their tourism industry to not only open the door for you at Kia Prison when you're released for lack of evidence (which they'll magically either 'lose' or morph into chocolate syrup on your behalf), but they'll also hold a worldwide press conference celebrating your release.

The primary media representative will also 'friend' you on Facebook and give you heartfelt postive messages on your wall, while trashing the living daylights out of your victims.

So yes, if you're a criminal.. Aruba is one friendly island!

It appears that a negotiated transfer to the Netherlands to serve the sentence hand down by the Peruvian justice system is a real possibility for Joran.

I hope it does not happen but ... I have a sinking feeling that somehow  Holland/Aruba will make sure it will happen.

Peru and the Netherlands do not have a mutual treaty for the return of nationals to serve their sentences in their home nation. Although negotiations for the transfer of prisoners have been taking place, it is not clear when agreement might be reached.
 
Even if such a treaty is agreed after his possible conviction, Joran van der Sloot will be able to apply to be transferred back to the Netherlands on condition that the two countries have no objections and the convicted person also agrees. It is too early to say whether Peru would cooperate with a transfer.
