I know nothing about Peru...I assume that because this is so HIGH profile, they will keep him segregated/safe,until he is found guilty, then thro him to the wolves. So for now, I hope they keep him safe,alone in his OWN LITTLE hell hole. Hi Angie.  The JVDS family has not publicly been visible, but it was their money that hired Joran's private lawyer and will ease his transition to prison.  They are financing his defense, but keeping out of the media.

According to the following ... the Dutch Embasy has retained the private attorney for Joran.  I can only assume that all Dutch citizens who find themselves involved in the Peruvian justice system are also afforded attorneys compliments of the Netherlands.

Oh, thanks!  I was thinking that they were on the extreme left side, roughly 1/4 of the way up from the bottom.  I tried to line it up with the maps you posted at the same time, but couldn't figure out whether to tilt my head to the left or to the right!

Yes, insanity as cause of a crime exists in Peruvian law, but it seems to me that Mr. Van der Sloot's lawyer is not basing the defense in that posibility.

In my opinion, Mr. Van der Sloot's defense during the trial is not looking good. I find interesting that his lawyer, Mr. Máximo Altez, according to recent comments he's given to the media, is not declaring anything against the essence, so to speak, of what is publicly known about the investigation.

By saying that the suspect's confession should be thrown out by the court because the public defender present during the interrogation was a "buddy of the police", and by saying that it was Miss Flores who first hit the suspect, he is implicity saying:

1. That the suspect did confess, and that there was a public defender present during his confession, and

2. When he says that it was the victim who first hit the suspect, he is accepting that his client did commit the murder.

I'm not saying that Mr. Altez is an incompetent lawyer or anything like that. What I am doing is to read between the lines. And in my opinion Mr. Altez's words show that the prosecution has a solid case, and that the suspect's defense is going to be very difficult.

Of course I could be wrong. Once again, it's just an opinion.

I agree with Reader and I think this case will never go to trial. No doubt Joran is suffering, his options all are fatal.
